Aug 24, 2010I just go a new Macbook Pro 13' from my school (my school made it mandatory to get a mac this year) and I was installing some of my applications. Then I got the "You need to restart your computer" message. I restarted, and all i got was a blue screen with my pointer. Then after a while it says the same restart message. Also I have tried booting from the Snow Leopard Disk, but I get the same message before the actual SL installer comes up. I have been able to get the Macbook to boot in safe mode and I repaired permissions and the disk, however that does not seem to help. I have also reset the PRAM and that did nothing. I am running out of ideas... how can I fix this? I am using 10.6.4.

Nov 30, 2010I tried fsck -f fsck -y multiple times, booting in safe mode, zaping the pram and all that stuff, nothing as worked. I don't really care about how to fix it but I care more about, Is there any possible way I can get files off of the macbook even though it wont boot. Like is there a way for another computer (windows or mac) to pick it up so I can transfer files? What accessories will I need?

Mar 22, 2012I have a 2.0 GHz early 2005 Power Mac G5 (7,3) that won't get past the light blue screen at start-up. I've tried everything - reset the PRAM, Apple Hardware Check (on overnight loops, everything came back OK), fsck (all OK), repaired my HD and permissions on it, and then erased the drive using Target Disk Mode and another Mac, and attempted to reinstall OSX from the install disk that came with it (with OSX Tiger). I've tried switching out the RAM with no luck.
The only thing I haven't tried is a new video card (the installed one is an ATI Radeon 9600). Here's what it does: powers on with the usual chime, then moves on to the white Apple screen, the wheel spins, then it moves on to a darker blue screen, then it finally moves on to a lighter blue screen with an arrow, and it just stays there. It will boot into safe mode (pressing shift), but I can't even upgrade to Leopard in safe mode, much less figure out what's wrong.

Mar 29, 2012I have iMac 27 and screen problem on start up i have blue vertical lines, when it start i have a lot of blue dots and nothing else. when I connect outside monitor its showing the same.
Just installed lion and still the same problem when it starts blue dots, when startup in safe mode loads of blue lines and dots on the screen.

Sep 21, 2008I woke up this morning and my iMac G5 (w/ Leopard) was frozen. I restarted it manually, but it would freeze on a blue screen without loading the OS. It can start up fine in safe mode, but that's it! I've tried repairing permissions and zapping the PRAM - any other ideas?
What can I do in Safe Mode that might fix my comp? I haven't recently installed any applications, and I have all "open at login" items turned off.

Dec 8, 2008My iMac G5 froze. I restarted it manually, but it kept freezing on a blue screen without loading the OS. It can start up fine in safe mode, but that's it! I've tried repairing permissions and zapping the PRAM.
Finally I resorted to an Archive & Install. That didn't work so I did a clean install but that didn't help either. After having done everything under the sun to it to get it to work, it will still only start up in safe mode. I even tried starting up off each of my two external fire wire drives with no luck (it froze on the fire wire screen with both drives - a Maxtor and a Western Digital). I am thinking that something on the mother board has died so that normal booting is prevented but safe mode booting is allowed.

Sep 6, 2009When I turned my iMac on this morning (iMac G5 PPC 10.5.8) it went through all of the "normal" steps (gong, grey screen, apple logo, progress wheel, blue screen) and stopped at the blue screen. Thinking it was just a fluke, I shut the machine down and restarted, only to have it stop at the blue screen again. After disconnecting everything going into the iMac except the keyboard and mouse, I attempted to boot into safe mode but it stopped at the blue screen again.
Next, I flashed the PRAM (big gong, single quieter gong) and afterward it came to the blue screen. I reattached my external drive and selected to boot from a 2-day old backup. Using the backup I was able to log into both my regular account and my "test" account (without login items). I still cannot login (except to my external drive backup).

Nov 28, 2009I've been using my Intel Mac-Mini without a hitch for three years now. Previously it had been plugged into a Samsung 32" LCD TV, but I've just swapped it over for a 1080p Panasonic 37".
Now when I turn on the mac it takes a long time to boot up and then eventually settles on a blue screen. The mouse pointer is visible but nothing else. I've tried using a dvi to vga adaptor and an HDMI to vga cable and the same thing happens.I tried a 15" Samsung monitor and the same thing happens.
If I boot in 'safe' mode it allows me to type in my password but when I try to log in it fades to blue and then returns to the log in page.

Aug 15, 2010Today, while turning on my iMac, a strange gray progress bar appeared in the 'Apple' start screen. I assume I felt some fear. Then, the login screen shows in red: 'Safe Boot'. Later, the menu bar appeared to be brighter than ever. Thanks to google, I found that safe boot is a mode which you can access by holding shift during startup. Probably I pressed shift accidentally, even though I do not remember. The question is: now, that I restarted my mac and it's back to the normal, will this 'Safe Boot' bring me any consequences? How to proceed?

Dec 6, 2014My MacBook is making the startup sound but goes straight to a black/dark grey screen. In other words you can see the screen switching on but it's blank. It's in charge mode, has no other external peripherals attached and it's updated to most recent OSX Yosemite.
I only purchased it in May of this year (refurbished). I have tried booting in to safe mode but again the screen remains the same.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Boot Pass The Blue Screen?
Jan 6, 2011My macbook pro cannot boot pass the blue screen, all startup keys failed to work [URL]. If all I need is one successful boot to copy all my files off the hard disk. Should I:
A. leave it as it is and hope for the blue screen will eventually go away;
B. keep rebooting and hope for the computer will boot up correctly by chance; or
C. Power off and unplug everything, leave it overnight and try booting it again next morning?
I've heard some people could get their computer back to normal just by option C, which sounds weird to me. Is that possible? How does that work?
PowerPC :: IBook G4 Won't Boot Beyond Blue Screen?
Dec 13, 2007After installing an app ('Detour') I was asked to (or it was suggested that I should) restart my computer. I did so, and now my 1.33GHz iBook G4 turns on - but it will not go any further than a blank blue screen (after the initial grey screen that appears.) Thankfully, all my data is on an external drive. I keep my music and footage which I have shot on there amongst other things. I also have a backup on my external via Time Machine of all my data which I keep on the iBook drive, so nothing should be lost.

May 16, 2009I hardly ever turn off my Macbook unless i need to - I just close it and use it whenever i need to. I let the battery run dry as Apple suggests to do every now and again, and turned it on the next day. It started to boot and took a little longer to get past the grey apple logo and loading circle and then froze on the blue screen. I can control the mouse, but every few seconds it changes to a darker blue, cursor disappears but returns after a second or two. I've tried:
- Booting into safe mode (Same thing happens)
- Booting from CD and repairing permissions (Said everything was ok, same thing happens when I booted)
- Single user mode (used some commands from an Apple page and restarted)
I can however boot into windows perfectly fine, which leads me to suspect it's a corrupt log in item. I'd like to know for sure it's not a hardware problem so I don't have to take it into an Apple Store.

May 16, 2012Mbp had a kernel error and would not boot so I took it to Apple store and they said it needed new harddrive. Oct 4, 2009I am trying to reformat an iBook for a friend. Everything was running, but, there was no chime on boot. I logged into the machine, and was checking files and folders when it locked up. It actyally locked up while trying to run Microsoft Word. It now boots to a grey screen the the little "spinning" thing, and then, instead of going to the login screen, it just turns blue. It will NOT boot into Safe Mode, it will NOT boot to the iBook Install CD, I just get the same blue screen using both methods. I used Command-Option-P-R without success. I booted to Open Firmware and typed reset-nvram without success. I don't know what else to try. I am copying her files right now by booting into Target Disk mode, but, once I get that done, I still won't be able to boot the install disc to get the system wiped and reinstalled. What else can I do to correct this?

It's been running fine since I got it last august, now today I started it and I get the blue screen that seems to refresh itself with a slight flicker every 10 seconds with a new blue screen with the spiraling activity dots. I tried booting from a disc, and it nothing changed. I tried booting in safe mode and it the bar would fill up, then it goes right back to bluescreen. I don't have a screwdriver on me, so I can't take the battery out.
