I currently have 2 Partitions. One of them is of the Mac OSX And one of the Windows 7 through Boot Camp. Now i've been wondering if it's possible and how, To add more space to my Windows 7 Boot camp partition.

I installed windows 7 on a separate partition using Bootcamp.
Thing is, I changed my mind and I want to add more space to this partition. Is there any way of doing this?
Also, now that I have Windows 7 installed. How do I change from one to another? I thought there would be an option at startup but it just goes straight to OSX
I've been using bootcamp for a while now, and my windows partition has worked great. I mainly use windows on my G5 iMac to play counterstrike (fun as hell) but lately ****'s been ****ing up on my windows side of things. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm out of space on my windows partition, and I want to add more space - without having to completely reinstall bootcamp!! Something's telling me this is the only option, but I don't want to have to put the effort in reinstalling the application.

-Bioshock
-Bioshock 2 (when me order arrives in mid-feb)
-Unreal Tournament 3
-Sims 3 -
So how much space does W7 really need, I have a genuine W7 Ultimate x64 to install (got 8GB DDR3 on my 27" iMac) so there seems to be no point installing x32. Seems I need 20GB just for W7 x64. But how much space to leave for the games I want with a little space to grow?
windows 7 partition is mainly for games like Call of Duty and the upcoming Mass Effect 3. Possibly microsoft office as well. How much space do you think I'll need? Is 200GB enough?

What would be the best way to accomplish this (I'd rather not increase the partition w/ a third party app)? I was thinking the best is to eliminate unnecessary files that I am pretty certain were installed as part of the Vista install so that I can recover as much HDD space on the windows partition as possible, but don't know what I can eliminate safely? Can someone please offer some ideas and very basic steps of where to find any of the items you reference?

I don't want to go through the hassle of installing the whole thing again so is it possible I free up some space in my Mac partition and just use some partition software in Windows to extend it's size?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got rid of a partition I had made for bootcamp since I never use it, and would rather have the space back. I deleted the partition through disc utility, and then through the partition tab, tried to get back that space by dragging down the tab to restore the space originally set for the partition. When I go to apply this change, it notifies that my hard drive will be re-sized. I accept and then a few minutes later it comes back with the error "Partition failed with the error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" Does anybody know how I can restore this space successfully back into my main hard drive? I've attached some screenshots

Only thing is that holding down the option key during restart does nothing, and although the partition in which Windows 7 is installed under shows up in finder, I am unable to view it in system preferences so that I can boot from it. Would Parallels provide me with a better user experience by installing Windows directly via Parallels OR by having Parallels utilizing a Boot Camp Partition? Which is better and why? Also, how much memory should I allocate to Parallels/Windows XP?

now here is the problem my windows 7 is infected with virus (thats why windows suck big time) and i need to reformat my windows 7 and reinstall a new windows 7.
how am i supposed to do it? insert the installation disk and do like how we initially installed windows 7? just format the partition and reinstall again? i just want to make sure so i ask before doing anything.
or can i do this? i use winclone to restore? any1 have any idea? i'm new to all this i dont know how to do it. i have backup using winclone but how do i do it? do i still need to format then only use winclone?
I'm trying to install Windows 7 and can't get the boot camp assistant to partition my drive. The drive in question is 500GB with over 200GB free space. I want a Windows partition of 35-40GB.On first attempt I kept getting the cannot move files error when trying to partition. I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. When I booted the machine up this morning, I launched it again to verify that the disk was defraged. Boot camp still doesn't want to play.

This is what ive done;
1.Open up bootcamp assistant
2.Partition, divide equally(116GB each)
3.Insert Vista disk and start installation
4.Install Vista and insert CD key
5.custom installation
6.Now this is where i stuck
I have 4 options, and i should choose the last one which says bootcamp 116gb, but i cant click it since it says the disk need to have NTFS format. How can i set so that i partiton it to NTFS?
So I am trying to open up my bootcamp partition (running windows 7) in VMWare and I get this error message: Cannot open the disk '/Users/brandonquirarte/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm/Boot Camp partition.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. It was working just fine before the upgrade to Snow Leopard but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I had to reinstall Windows 7 after I tried installing the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers so that may be more of the issue. I didn't test to see if would work still when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

Ive noticed most people are having problems with all of these programs when trying to backup a W7 image whilst on Snow Leapord (Mac OS x 10.6, which I am running)I know that is the function of the 3 applications above... But to my knowledge... In theory - I should be able to just backup my W7 using a reliable backup program (Can someone recommend any?) and then delete the existing BootCamp partition, create a new one of 100gig and then just load up the backed up image for Windows 7...

I removed the partition via Boot Camp assistant, and when I tried to make a new partition, it's telling me that I have to "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try again."
What does that mean? Do I have to reformat (and subsequently erase) everything on my harddrive? If I have Time Machine set up, will I be able to bring everything back to how it was originally?
I went to install XP on boot camp and I accidentily installed it on the wrong partition, so the drive that had leopard on it is now formatted to NTFS and I cannot format it back. I beleive all my data is still on because there is a lot of used disc space. I want to convert it back to HFS without the loss of data, as I have important information on the hard drive that I do not want to lose. I know this is my own fault because I wasn't paying close enough attention to where I was installing Windows

Basically I want to do this: Take my 80 GB External HDD, reformat it to MacOSXExtended (Journaled). Put leopard on it. Boot from my external HDD. Run BootCamp Assistant and make a windows partition on my external HDD via bootcamp.
View 2 Replies View Relatedperhaps I am doing something wrong? I wanted to install Windows XP on my iMac. I previously had partitioned my Mac drives. I backed everything on these drives to my external and blew the partitions away creating my one Mac drive again.
I then ran Bootcamp, created a partition and installed XP. Everything was fine. I then partitioned my main drive and got the warning message about Bootcamp maybe not working afterwards. So I finished partitioning my Mac drive as I wanted and now I don't have the option of booting into XP through Bootcamp. When I try it just shows the Mac drive as my only boot option. I see the XP Bootcamp drive in the System Preferences startup disk area, but I assume I did something to the partition once I partitioned my Mac drives
I need some assistance. How much memory would you recommend if I'm only going to play about 4 games on Windows? The games are:
The Witcher - 15gb according to Steam
Left 4 Dead - 7.5gb according to Steam
Left 4 Dead 2 - 7.5gb according to Steam
Oblivion - 4.6gb according to Steam (although I own it on disc)
I only plan on using Windows to play those games since half of those can't be played on OSX and I need Snow Leopard for both Left 4 Dead games. By the way, I have XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 on disc. Which should I install? I'm leaning towards Vista since it looks better. I wish I could install 7 on my current MBP but I can't because it's one of those exclusive Snow Leopard features.
I am going to Japan tomorrow and I JUST purchased Fallout 3 for my MBP and when I attempt the installation it says that I do not have enough space on my drive, so I am wondering is there a quick way to 'freely' expand my windows partition so that I can play

View 5 Replies View RelatedI attempted to install Windows 7 using bootcamp assistant with a 5GB partition. I got halfway through the Windows 7 install when I got an error message, saying that Windows needs 8284 megabytes to install. I want to delete the current partition and create a larger partition to complete the install.
However, when I run bootcamp, I get "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."
I tried deleting the partition using disk utility, didn't work either.
How can I fix this?
I have an iMac with a 230gb hard drive, and I've just used boot camp to create a 50gb partition for windows, all seems to be going smoothly enough.
Now, I'd like to be able to take a good chunk of the remaining hard disk space and create a partition that will work between mac osx and windows.
At the moment:
Mac OSX partition = 180gb
Windows = 50gb
I'd like to make a partition (about 120gb) from the mac osx side, and label it "audio drive" (i use audio software and i'd like to run the data on a separate location to the software).
How can I do this in such a way that both OSX and Windows XP will recognise the "drive" or partition? Im assuming I'll have to use Fat32, however Disk Utility won't give me that option (not that I can see anyway)
Edit: The OS's are Leopard and XP Service Pack 3
I installed boot camp and then put xp on a 10gb partition. I was having major problems with OSX so I reinstalled. now When I try to upgrade to the new version of bootcamp I get an error message downloading. I think it said not verified. I wanted to know how to delete the windows space so I can just have the apple OS. I went to disk utility but It would not let me delete the windows partition. The reason I wanted the new version of bootcamp because I was having track pad problems in xp.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI just put in a new hard drive yesterday and when i restored my time machine backup I partitioned the disk with 30 gigs for windows and the rest for my mac stuff. The whole thing restored and I have my legit copy of XP SP2 and went to run boot camp and it tells me that I can't install it because the start up disk must be formatted as a single volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for Windows. The Windows partition is completely blank.
