MacBook Pro :: Installing 10.6 On 10.5.8 But Getting Grey Screen
Apr 20, 2012I tried to install 10.6 on my 10.5.8 Macbook Pro. It installed just fine, I restarted, it goes through the apple logo and asks me to pick a language. I pick english, it goes to the grey screen and stops there forever. I'd be happy just to go back to 10.5.8, I just don't want to lose all my stuff.Also, all the function buttons work (volume, adjust screen brightness, etc). Just nothing else will.

I can use the printer setup window on the PC which shows if the ink is low etc. When I print I hear the Mac's hard drive operate but it just sends a sheet of paper through without any printing on it.

May 3, 2012I have just connected my Canon Pixma MG5270 to my iMac running OSX 10.7.3 via WiFi. Printing works great, and scanning from the desktop "Canon MP Navigator EX - MG 5200 series" V 4.0.3 application works like a dream. When I try to scan via the operations panel on the printer/scanner the following comes up - Set the PC to start scanning". This worked fine when connected directly via USB cable. I have searched the web and believe I have the correct settings, particuliarly in MP Navigator:Â
1. Main Menu -> One-click -> Start scanning by clicking the button (checked)
2. Main Menu -> One-click -> Preferences -> General -> Compress scanned images when transferring (checked) -> Change -> Network Device List (selected Canon MG 5200 series_xxxxxxxxx) -> Scan-from-Operation-Panel Settings -> Network Device List (selected Canon MG5200 series_xxxxxxx)Â I have restarted the iMac and printer and always with the same result.Â

Dec 10, 2014I would like to use a perfectly good Canon Pixma ip4200 printer with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and  Yosemite 10.10.1 on my 2013 model iMac but Canon say they do not do a driver for these more recent versions of OSX later than 10.7. Is there any way to get this to work?

Apr 1, 2012I was having problems printing from my Canon LBP6000. Print jobs remained held in the queue. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Mac CAPT Ve r340 driver from Canon's website, no improvement. The printer works fine with my Windows laptop. I found an option to remove all printers from the Print preferences section. I can't remember how I did this, but all printers were removed. I reinstalled the above driver, but now in the 'print & scan' - 'add printer' section, I have no printer options. And no idea how to get printer options.

Aug 22, 2009I have 2 new I-Mac computers set up on a home network. I have my new Canon D480 Multifunction printer connected to one of the Macs ("Mac #1) by USB and it prints perfectly with the driver recommended in the printer manual downloaded from the Canon site. I have Printer sharing turned on. The printer's name on Mac #1 is Canon D460-490 (UFRII LT) which is the name that was automatically given to the printer when I downloaded the drivers and installed them.
However I am unable to print to the printer from the second new Mac ("Mac #2") although I have downloaded the same printer driver and have added the printer on Mac #2. The printer's name on Mac #2 is Canon D460-490 (UFRII LT) @ Mac #1.I go through the motions of File, Print, but nothing happens.

Apr 22, 2012My grandfather purchased a Brother MFC-J6510DW all in one printer several weeks ago and since day one we cannot get the thing installed and recognised on his mac.He running an Imac with OS X 10.7. Originally the computer recognised the printer but when we tried to print nothing would happen. We opened up the printer que and noticed that the job had a error but the system didnt tell me what error.I have visited the Brother website and followed the advice to uninstall all the printer drivers and associated docs and then reinstalled the drivers..... Now my grandfathers machine will not recognise my printer at all and when we try to manually search for the drivers (that we have installed) the mac does not load any for this specific printer.Is there anyone out there who can shine a light on our problem)?

It appears the iMac regards the printer as ready and waiting, but the printer keeps looping the same page and the paper jams every time. After getting the paper out, the printer re-starts the same page again - with a new paper jam as result.
The printer is a Samsung CLP315 colour laser printer, connected through USB.
Only "solution" is to get the paper out and then quickly turn the printer off, and start it again to print a new page. I have an iMac 21", bought in May last year (the then new generation).iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Intel Mac :: Put A DVD In And It Was Still On The Grey Screen?
May 12, 2012I came home to find my IMAC stuck at the grey apple screen with a circle of dots spinning...I've been trying to piece together the events that led up to this:
1) The night before I ran some updates including the osx 10.7.4 update and then selected restart and went to bed
2) THe next day my son says that they tried to put a DVD in and it was still on the grey screen...they inserted the DVD anyway
3) I tried unplugging etc and then rebooting but same grey screen
4) I rebooted with the track pad held down and it managed to eject the DVD
5) Now when rebooting i get 3 bleeps repeated, I've retried this a few times and its the same
6) I have rebooted using CMD R and see that the Macintosh HD is listed showing 466 GB free which I hope means that the other 534GB is still on there...not sure if I should repair itÂ
I've had this IMAC since January and am ashamed ot say that I DONT THINK I HAVE A BACK UP yet...I was ust about to buy an external HD big enough to back it up so VERY CONCERNED about losing my recently uploaded entire family home movie collection as I speak my wife is holding back the tears..

Mar 24, 2012I have an imac from late 2008 with snow leopard. Late saturday evening 24 Mar I had powered down my imac then later turned it on. Now only a grey screen appears, nothing more. If I leave the imac on a folder with a question mark appears and blinks.I have tried the following to fix the problem and ALL HAVE FAILED:they are:
1. resetting the pram. it doesnt work.
2. booting from the installation cd. The imac doesn't even READ the cd, the screen remains grey and doesn't read the cd at all.
3. booting in the safe mode. nothing happens, the screen remains grey.
4. booting in apple hardware test mode: nothing happens screen remains grey.
5. boot with option key pressed, so as to choose mac HD or my windows partition. nothing happens, the screen remains grey.
When I power on my imac I heard the chord, a slight spin of the HHD I'm sure that's what it is,and then nothing.grey screen.I have tried unpluggling the power cord for 15 seconds, reconnecting it, waiting five secondsand then powering up the imac. it doesn't do any good.do you think it is a hard drive error or failure? why doesn't it read or boot from the instillation CD?? and yes I am using the correct disk.Â

The only thing that seems to work, but only for a seconds, is holding the option (alt) key at startup. After a few seconds, the pointer of the mouse appears.

Jan 31, 2012I have a mid-2007 model and I replaced the x2 stock 1GB sticks with x2 2GB sticks. I followed the correct procedures, (I think), and when I powered it on the fan came back on but the screen was black. Not sure exactly when it started but I noticed it about half an hour ago and have come straight online to 'troubleshoot' the problem. The is a grey smudge/shadow in the middle of my screen and I am unable to remove it by cleaning the screen or restarting my computer. I have seen similar issues posted with no resolve so I don't know if people discovered a fix or just gave in and took the computer into the Apple store. With no way to transport the computer safely into the city centre, I would like to avoid doing that if at all possible. Â
