Hardware :: Setting 1920x1080 Screen Resolution On 2007 Macbook

Jul 29, 2009

The resolution on the monitor is 1920 by 1080 and the resolution on my Macbook is 1920 by 1200. Will the Macbook automatically adjust to 1080 or will there be some stretching or otherwise bad quality to accommodate the difference?

I don't have to have the latest and greatest technology, but I do want something that will look nice. I really like the HP monitors for the money and was hoping to get something around this size. I just want to make sure this isn't going to screw up the resolution or anything.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Change External Monitor Screen Resolution To 1920x1080

Mar 25, 2012

I have been having some problems with my Macbook Pro. I have a new BenQ screen connected to it via the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter from Apple. No matter what I do, I cant seem to be able to change the resolution to anything higher than 1280x1024, which is a pretty stupid resolution to have on a 27'' monitor. Sometimes when I plug it in, it gives me the option to change the resolution to 1920x1080.

But when I select it, the screen goes black and displays the message "No signal detected". Now, as it happens, I have a copy of windows installed on a partition of my hdd, and the screen works flawlessly on it. full HD with 75 Hertz. So that shows that it is not a hardware problem, it has to be a software problem. I tried everything, including reinstalling OS X, and deleting the "windowserver" files. no success.

I have a Mac Mini (latest version) hooked up to my Panasonic TH-42PV70 by a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter (through my Denon AVR-3808 surround receiver). Does anyone here know the optimal settings in SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX for this screen? I currently use 1280x720 without overscan, which renders a black frame around the image. Is it possible to get an image that fills the entire screen, without losing any information?

Hardware :: 1920x1080 Resolution Using USB Display Adapter?

Dec 25, 2009

I currently own a 27" Core i7 iMac and already have a 24" BENQ (M2400HD) connected to it via DisplayPort to DVI. I was wondering if using a USB to DVI to display adapter would work with the 1920x1080 resolution.

What I want to do is buy a USB to DVI to display adapter like the one here: [URL] and purchase the 21.5" M2200HD BENQ monitor to add as the third monitor. I want to be able to utilise the 21'5" native resolution of 1920x1080 with the USB display adapter.

On the OWC website, it states that the USB display adapter could support resolutions of up to 2048x1152. Do you think that it would be able to support 1920x1080? Most other USB display adapters seem to only support up to 1600x1200 or around there.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Screen Resolution Setting Changes After Log-off?

Apr 9, 2012

I can't be the only person experiencing this, but I can't find anything on the 'net about it.   I've got a 15" MacBook Pro (early 2011) and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. About 1/3rd of the time when I logoff and go back to the Snow Leopard login window, the purple Aurora background is smaller than the screen's displayable area, and pushed up into the top left corner of the screen.  A wide band of solid blue takes up the right side of the screen and a narrrower one appears along the bottom of the screen.

The login window still works, and if I log into a user, the user's desktop is also limited to that upper left part of the screen -- a roughly 9" x 7" area, instead of the 13" x 8" displayable area of the whole screen.  The mouse pointer won't leave the (now limited) desktop area.

I've just figured out that  the display resolution shown in System Preferences-->Displays has been changed from the normal/default setting of 1440 x 900 to a setting of 1024 x 768!   It happens when logging out of any of (at least) four different users, including two that are rarely used. Restarting the system sets everything back to normal again, as does using System Preferences to set the display resolution back to 1440 x 900.  what could be causing the screen display resolution to change after logout?

MacBook :: Setting Wallpaper With Higher Resolution

Oct 21, 2009

I have an aluminum Macbook Unibody 13" that I just picked up off craigslist and was wondering if anyone new what I can expand the memory to. It has 2 GB Ram in it right now, and it is the 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 250 GB Hard Drive. Also I am trying to download apple wallpapers for it, but when I set it as my wallpaper it doesn't look as clear on my background as it does in the preview, even when I copy and set the one with higher resolution. I must be doing something wrong, if you don't mind could someone take me through the steps of how to properly download and apply wallpapers, as your background?

MacBook Air :: Setting Default Display Resolution?

Mar 29, 2012

I'm using a MBA connected to a 52" TV with a 1920X1080 resolution when I teach.  I often turn mirroring on and off depending on what I'm teaching and what program I'm using.  When I turn mirroring on it defaults to a 1400X1050 resolution and I have to manually go into display settings and change it to the higher resolution.  Is there a way to set the default settings so that it will always default to 1920X1080?

MacBook Pro :: Setting Right Resolution For External Monitor?

Apr 16, 2012

I have just connected an external 19" monitor to my 15" macbook pro. I am using both displays and that is fine, however I would like to be able to change the font sizes in my 19" monitor, because the default one is too small. I have to get awfully close to the monitor. I am not sure how i can display it better. When I tried changing resolution from 1440x900 to others, I didn't make it right, is that the only way? All I want is for screens in this monitor to have larger fonts (all programs, whether its safari, chrome, mail, etc). I should mention I am a brand new mac user.

Also, would I see better results -- or have more options -- if I purchased a vga - hdmi converter box?

MacBook Pro :: 2007 -- Screen Goes Black Without Warning

Mar 30, 2012

My MacBook Pro from 2007 has recently been having a problem where the screen will go black without warning. It's been getting progressively worse, staying black for a few minutes, then staying black for many minutes, and now it can't be woken up (writing this on yet another computer!). I had a similar problem with an iBook from way back when, but can't remember whether I solved the problem by some series of keystrokes or by buying a new computer.

I tried [Apple]+[Option]+[P]+[R] until it start-up chimed, then start-up chimed again. And I tried holding [SHIFT] while it rebooted. I can hear the volume increase and decrease popping-like sound and it reboots fine (as far as I can tell). This MacBook Pro runs Snow Lion (I think).

MacBook :: Late 2007 System Screen Options

I am hoping someone can offer some advice/help on a fresh issue happening with my Macbook (late 2007; OS 10.5.8; 2.2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo; 1GB memory).ll darkened/shaded areas on my display are lined in little red pixelations. It's especially bad in colored screen images/photos and the worst in videos (ie Youtube).I noticed the issue about 3 days ago (5/14), and attempted to do some different software updates. Nothing. I'm really lost. The tech guy at work (not a mac guy) said it could either be a video card problem or the display is failing. I know very little about these things, but I do know the computer is out of warranty.

MacBook Pro :: 2007 Won't Get Past Grey Loading Screen?

Mar 23, 2012

I had been using my MBP running Snow Leopard to play movies and music through a TV/stereo and brought it with me when I moved to do the same, but now it won't start it.  I kept it asleep as I brought it on the plane, then when I got to my new apartment, it was frozen.  I shut it down, then tried to turn it back on but it get stuck in the grey loading screen with the Apple logo.

I've tried starting in safe mode (it will bring up the safe mode loading bar, then that disappears and it gets stuck on the normal gray loading screen).I've also tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM.

Then, I tried to start it up from a friend's OS X install disk (but it came with his MacBook from the same era, so idk if it only works for MB and not MBP), but that doesn't work either (selected it as the startup disk by holding Option when booting up, then selecting it.  It then goes to what it does normally except it will turn itself off instead of gettting stuck.)

I don't know what else to do.  I'm assuming something is seriously broken.  I'm hoping it might just need a reinstall or maybe a new hard drive, which I could do if it's not too expensive.Â

MacBook Pro :: Late 2007 15" Kernel Panics - Screen Flickering

Feb 5, 2010

Late 2007 MBP 15" kernel panics upon boot up and requires two /sbin/fsck -fy filesystem checks in single user mode/safe mode in order to get it to boot. Once you are at the login screen, it hangs after a bit/login and the screen starts flickering fast and visibly. There is also a faint visible "blotch/ink blot" like transparent area on the screen when it flickers (just to let you know, the screen looks FINE, no black blots (common for broken LCDs) and there does not appear to be any physical damage.

Anybody know what the heck might be going on? So far, I can already tell you that I DON'T KNOW if the machine was dropped or what the user did do to it (I'm only fixing it).

Also, during the fsck, I commonly get this: "Incorrect block count for pcscd.pub" it should be 16 (or 17) which gets me scratching my noggin (googled it, not much that I was able to do to fix the machine though). Fsck fixes that, but upon the next reboot after the kernel panic, I get it again in fsck.

We called the machine but of course when it was not bought the AppleCare was not registered (even though we bought it for the user) so right now we're waiting for Apple to register it (had to fax the receipts/POs) which usually in my experience only took few minutes to complete before we can even take it to the store.

My questions are:

1.) What is going on.

2.) Hardware problem? Bad Logic Board/GPU? Hard drive going bad?

3.) Software issue? Reinstall OS X?
