I have a 12" 1.5 Powerbook which I purchased about two years ago. I never used headphones with the laptop until recently and I noticed that only one channel comes through.
View 1 RepliesWhen I plug my MacBook into an external audio source via the headphone-jack using the red and white cables (do not know the technical name), I only receive sound out of one speaker. At first I thought one of my stereo speakers had blown out, but I plugged my computer into another stereo using another cord and it still only plays one speaker. Also, when I plug in any set of headphones I only still receive sound through one speaker (the left one). My computers speakers still work, and when nothing is plugged in it still says under the output type that it's Built-in Output. I also noticed that sometimes (but not every time) when I unplug something from the headphone jack that a red light flashes around two times, but it does not stay lit when there is nothing plugged in.
**Another note: The sound is not in mono in one speaker, it is just like one speaker is turned off.
I came across some youtube video with dual-language audio; ie. one language on the left channel and another language on the right channel. The Output page under Sound preference does not have the left/right balance control, probably due to the mono speaker in MBA. If I connect to an external speakers, or headphones, then the balance control re-appears. Is there a way to get around this problem, if I still want to use the build in mono-speaker?

Looking to get a pair of M-Audio DX4 monitors for my PowerBook G4 but was wondering if I'll be able to hook them up to it. They say they come with an RCA to mini-jack cable, but does mini-jack mean it'll plug into my headphone port or some special port not available laptops.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe sound on my 17" G4 Powerbook does not seem to be working any longer. I know there are some similar threads but I think my problem is slightly different because I get sound on startup (the startup chime) then when Leopard loads it seems to be dead.
When I press the volume keys (F4/F5) I see the volume indicator increase/decrease but I do not hear an alert sound.
When I go into System Preferences/Sound, "Internal Speakers" is grayed out under "Sound effects" but "Internal Speakers" shows up under the Output tab.
When I plug in headphones, I get no sound.
I've tried resetting the PRAM and open firmware.
I've tried creating a new user and the new user also has no sound.
I've tried repairing permissions, running disk warrior while booted from another drive, and a disk repair in disk utility, as well as fsck-fy and also clearing the cache files with applejack.
I am runnign Leopard on this machine, version 10.5.6.
I though it was a fried/disconnected sound card or a logic board issue until I realized that the startup chime was playing just fine.
Also, whenever I press the volume keys, I get the following error in system.log
if i have Apple Dual-Channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express Card x 02 quantity and i plug into 2 different macpro can it be link to each other?

At the moment I use BBC iPlayer and Channel 4OD a lot on my PC. I know that these do not wok on a Mac due to DRM issues, but I am hoping that they will work on a Mac if I run Vista and Parallels. Inside the file is the 2.0 audio track separate with instructions on how to merge/change it using a program called Yamb. The only problem is that it's Windows only. Do any of you know a program (preferably free) that can do this for Mac?
I have Toast Titanium 10 and toyed with it for awhile but couldn't figure it out.
When I start importing video into iMovie '06 from my DV camcorder, the sound changes to one channel only (I know the audio on the tape is stereo), and stays that way perpetually, even after I quit iMovie, restart, zap the PRAM, and even do an "Archive and Install". I had to do an "Erase and Install" for it to return to two channels. But the second I start importing video in iMovie, it's back to one channel. I checked the Sound control panel and Audio MIDI Setup, and everything looks fine.

I thought I could just duplicate the traci in garage band, then swap the channel on the duplicate track so we could get audio from both sides. I own an AirPort Extreme (Dual-Band) and a MBP (2.2 SR). When I hold option down and click the AirPort icon in the menu bar, it shows the transmit rate and the channel its on. Mine says it's connected to channel 2 and I'm getting 104 TR. Why am I not connecting to the 149 channel?

Today I just noticed that whenever I connect my headphones I can hear the left channel clearly but the right channel is a lower volume and distorted.Â
at first I thought it was the headphones, but have tried various ones and it doesn't seem to be that.Â
Also, output from the internal speakers sounds fine, same level on both channels and clearÂ

So far this is my set up. M- Audio Fast Track connected to my Heil PR40 via usb. This is what I use for podcasting with GB and all is well on that front. In iMovie however, my VO only records on the left track and not in stereo. It sounds ok for being on one channel but I would like to have it stereo.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a white 13" MacBook. I'm totally Mac illiterate. I bought the Mac because I just about to dig my eyes out in frustration dealing with MS Vista. I like the MacBook.....but about a year and a half ago, the right channel of my 3.1 speaker setup cut out. It worked fine for the 1/1.5 years of ownership.
Internal speakers? Work just fine. Headphones? Perfect stereo.
External speakers with subwoofer? Right channel is dead.
I've tried max laptop volume and creeping volume on the actual speaker up. I've tried max external speaker volume and creeping the Mac volume up. I downloaded a ToneTester program. Internal speakers and headphones just fine. 3.1 externals? Right channel dead. I don't have the red-light jack issue. My Sound Output toggles between Headphones and Internal Speakers output perfectly. About 7 months ago while putzing with all the settings, I got it all back out-of-the-blue. Perfect stereo with subwoofer. I had it for about 2 months and then poof - right channel faded again.
Computer has 2x512 memory sticks. Can I add one 2gb stick since the CPU sees only 3.3gb total? I realize I'm losing dual channel capabilities.

I have an electric guitar plugged into the instrument input of an Apogee Duet recording interface.
If I add a "real instrument" track, then I can select the input channel in the "track info" pane in GB. Works fine, I can hear the guitar. But I can't access the various guitar effects and models.
To do that I create an "electric guitar" track instead. However, when I do that, I don't see any option to select the input channel in the track info pane.
And I don't hear any sound. Apple help just says I should "select the input channel in the track info pane" but I don't see it there, like it is for a "real instrument"...
what's going on?
