Hardware :: Looking For Good Inexpensive MegaPixel Camera
Aug 26, 2009
Aside from the fact that when at airports every week I see a good 30% of laptops to be an APPLE, one would think that I must not be alone looking for a simple, good quality Apple-made IP camera to see what my girlfriends are doing in my apartments while I am gone deep sea fishing or otherwise.
I just ordered an AXIS 207MW for tomorrows delivery, but I am still looking for a source of good inexpensive MegaPixel (>5.0) mostly non-PZT running happily on SAFARI. Since Steve is busy getting used to his new liver and has no time for such pleasantries as IP APPLE Cameras with a nice software to spin them around the bedrooms -
I do not want to run Windows, Firefox, nor Explorer...
Any thoughts or comments? I am a photographer, shoot with a 5D Mark II.
Note: I currently have a stock 13" 2.4 ghz 2010 Macbook Pro. it's fine for this purpose but I would greatly appreciate the higher screen resolution, flash storage, and size/weight of the Macbook Air.
I am wondering how the performance on the slower CPU would be.
I mainly just want to use it to store photos and make quick adjustments, levels, exposures, color balancing, recropping, etc.. when I am out or travelling.
This is NOT my main work station.. I'll export the catalogue and import to my desktop.
I'm looking for a mass storage option and I've got about $150 USD to spend on it... I really want to get FW800 for the speed. Anyone have a good drive to recommend? The highest I can find is a 500gb for 139.... that's just not good enough.
I'll be picking up an iPhone 4 sometime this week and I'd love to try out the Facetime Beta with my girlfriend. She has a late 2007 Mac Mini and thus no built-in iSight camera. If anyone can recommend a handful of webcams at around the $50 price point I'd be very appreciative.
I've been trying to find an easy-to-use, inexpensive bookkeeping/accounting package for the Mac to help me manage my business.
Most things I've found have either been too expensive (several hundred pounds) or too difficult for a non-accountant to use.
A few days ago I stumbled upon a Bristol, England firm called InstantAdmin. The software is very straightforward, easy-to-use, and does pretty much what I need it to do.
The only problem: I can't get anyone to answer my emails about a few questions I have and a couple of problems with functionality that I've found.
Does anyone here have any experience of InstantAdmin? I'm hoping this isn't some fly-by-night outfit as I'd really like to buy this software, but not if I can't get a simple reply to an email.
I have an external iSight Web camera and want to use it with an iMac with a built in iSight camera. Can I disable the built in iSight camera and instead use the external camera?
Surely this is a pretty standard feature in laptops now, particularly with Apple's obsession with iPhoto etcDoes it come as an option? How do you get your pics off your camera? You have to connect a usb cable from the laptop to the camera?
How does this Mac Pro compare to a new iMacTwo 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors1GB (2 x 512MB) memory (667MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC)250GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200 rpm hard drive16x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD?RW/CD-RW)NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 256MB memory
I am upgrading my MBP first gen unibody to an SSD drive. I just read that we should not clone an existing HDD to a SSD. The author did not give a reason why. So, my question is: will cloning my current HDD to a new SSD (using Super Duper) adversely affect the SSD performance? My initial plan for upgrading before reading this article was to clone my HDD to a new SSD in an enclosure (using Super Duper), then install the SSD. I thought this would save me a lot of effort restoring everything from scratch.
Hi, so I've been using Blender off and on for about a year and a half and I was thinking about buying a different program. I'd like to keep it under $200 but if its a little over that fine. I was thinking about Silo but I don't really like not having the ability to extrude single vertices and subdivide objects like in Blender. Also if their are any products that have a student discount or something like that for someone in high school that would help too.
I am starting to wonder if Apple will ever 'fix' or upgrade the screen(s) in Rev B to the same level as rev A or if this screen is something we have to accept when we buy a MBA?
Cant make up my mind whether to buy the Rev B or not due to the screen. a last gen MBP glossy has a better screen as far as I have seen.
I've been using the official Last.fm scrobbler for Mac, but it's soooo slow. It freezes quite a lot when I click it in the menu bar to 'love' a track, so I'm looking for another one.
The things I want it to do are: - scrobble my music (duh) - let me 'love' a track - iPod integration
Installed a few software up dates in Parallels/Windows XP and saw the processor hit 176 degrees. Can anyone recommend a decent fan/cooling mat that will fit the AIR? I have one for my MacBook Pro that's unfortunately a little too large.
Well, recently my MacBook MagSafe screwed up, so I do not use my computer since 2 months ago (I know I know, its sad ) but anyway. I saw on eBay some "genuine" MagSafe chargers, well, I think are some sort of refurbished devices but I'm not so shure about it. Here's the link. Have anyone tried this MagSafes? I mean, they're not fake or something like that?
But there's another option called DealExtreme. They sell all kind of gadgets and electronic curiosities, mostly accesories, some of them "from" Apple. I say "from" because they sell this things in a very low price, close the 70% or more off. I heard that they got this amazing prices because they made their products from the same Apple factory in China, but without quality control, packaging, import taxes, Apple logo... etc.
Been looking for a good FLV to M4A video converter for the Mac. Only one that I can find that people seem to love is Wondershare Video Converter... but it is $40. Anyone know of a free one out there that can get the job done?
I want to calibrate my battery -- is there a recommended app for just chewing away to make the process faster? Do people just play movies over and over again?
Been using NewsRack on my iPhone and iPad and really would like to find one for my MacBook Pro. I want something that works well and looks decent, but my main request is one that supports google reader syncing. MacUpdate search is down or i'd just go hunting for one myself.
I bought a macbook pro yesterday and tried to install snow OS X from the CD that the MBP came with onto my iMac, for some reason its not allowing me to. Is the OS X cd good for only one computer?
I have read a few posts of new i7 users posting various stats on their machine. I am specificaly interested in the gpu performence (without OC). I am a traditional tower pc guy, but i have slowly but surely been able to convince myself of the relative merits of going loaded imac i7 over low end MP (the least of which is the horrible value and waiting 500+ days for no real improvments other than having the base now include a few bto upgrades to save you a few hundred bucks...but dont get me started).
Anyway, back on message, NAS solves my concerns about extra HD's, the cpu is certanly fast enough, mem not an issue...so my only concern is gpu.
Just looking at it from a price perspective, i am not sure how comfortable i am that a $130 graphics card will keep me fat and happy for 3 years (tech refresh assumption). I don't need a $600 cards, but when i have typicaly built pc's, the last few years, a $300 or so card has kept me happy. With the imac, it appears that switching gpu's is not easy or something i will probably do during its warranty covered life cycle....
So how good is the card (sorry it took so long to get there). I am a somewhat power home user...not professional, but i probably fall under the label i saw floaing around on another post as someone using 500 bucks of sw to load up raw images of their cat...or in this case kids and a golden retriever. I love games, but to be fair, my xbox has replaced most of my need for quick fps. 27in is a big screen. Can i play most games at full frame/speed extra? I assume photo shop cs5, et will work fine.
i really am on the fence on which one to get, i guess next week hopefully i can really price compare them, but the MP just seems to be such a god awefull value that its hard for me to jusitfy buying the low end model...my legacy prejudiceness against all in ones is taking a bit to get over...the imac seems to be the obvious choice.
