Was told to go to the control panel of my windows operating system and go to surround settings and make sure that the speaker set up is set to 5.1 surround. By default it is set to 2 speaker output. How do I find its equivalent in the mac os x i.e the control panel that will permit me to set my speaker set up to 5.1 surround?

I have my PC and my appletv streaming and I wanted to put something in my kitchen as well just wanted to figure out the most minimalist way to do it.
The tower speaker just doesn't cut it and I want to hook up my 5.1 Locitech speaker system. I couldn't find any Mac sound cards on newegg and am having trouble finding results anywhere else. What card is recommended by most Mac Pro users? My professions isn't in audio so it doesn't have to be perfect, just something to play games, music, and movies.

I'm coming from a Windows PC that had a sound card with both front and rear outputs.
Looking at the Mac Pro, it appears there is only 1 analog out jack?
How do I get all 4 speakers working with surround sound?
I currently have an early 2008 MacBook Pro hooked up to Harman Kardon SoundSticks ii. My cat is the biggest... well.. she knocked the soundsticks over and they broke. I am asking for advice on a new audio system that would sound great with my Mac. As of now I am leaning toward the AudioEngine A-5s.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm in the market for a speaker system for my new Mac Book Pro 17" and 24" Apple Cinema Display setup. Currently, I'm using really old speakers that, in my opinion, did fine. In other words, I didn't really do any sound studio like activities that warrants me to get the top of the line system.
Essentially, I'm just looking to upgrade (it is 7 years old). Is there anything out there right now that is "the best bang for the buck?" In other words, provide great sounds, it's innovative, it's essentially to this Apple setup, etc. etc.
A few months ago I bought :
iMac 27"
2.8 GHz Quad Core i7
8GB DDR3 SDRAM 2x4
2TB Serial ATA Drive
ATI Radeon HD 4850
Actually, still moving into it from the old one, haven't spent allot of time on it, hard to get out of the old one with my photoshop work. Anyhow, whats a good external speaker system for it? I find myself with the volume maxed out on the internal iMac speakers now, don't think it's too good to keep doing that. Is the amp in the iMac my only control over volume? Can I buy a speaker system of very good quality that may have amps within them so I can get more volume to them? I have a real top end stand alone stereo system, but doubt the iMac iTunes can be run through that.
I have an iPod Hi-Fi, and I would like to use it as a speaker for my Macbook. I just want to know whether this is feasible, and if so, what cable do I need to get the maximum out of my iPod Hi-Fi?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was looking to do a simple speaker upgrade for my mac, and somewhere along the line it turned into me building an entry level hifi system.I have decided on the B&W 685 speakers and Rotel equipment. Keeping in mind that this is for a medium sized bedroom:
1. Is the difference between using an integrated amp versus a pre-amp and power amp setup that different considering the extra cost?
For the integrated setup I was looking at: Rotel RA-1062
For the pre/power amp setup: Rotel RC-1070 and Rotel RB-1072
2. How would playing an Apple Lossless file from the aux port on my powerbook compare to playing the actual cd from a quality player? I was looking at the Rotel RCD-1072 CD player.
3. I need cable recommendations. I want to bi-wire the speakers, connect my laptop to the amp, and possibly connect a CD player to the amp. I don't want to spend more than $200 on cables.
I'd like to use the "Bose Acoustimass 10 speaker system" [URL] for iTunes music out of my iMac and somehow be able to switch the audio over to my T.V. whenever to play Xbox and watch movies through it as well.

I bought Brand New Macbook pro 15" Late 2011 Ci7, this is incredible machine. But a month past and i started to notice a very strange behavior: When i using mac for resource "Eating" application or processes my computer starts to Heat-this is normal.
When i close all the apps here starts interesting) I have Istat installed, so i can see what temps are in my system. Computer is cooling, and when cpu reaches 50-55 degrees (Celsium, from 80 degrees, because of heavy load) ,my left speaker produces a single loud pop sound. (like something turning of may be)

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I have a 2.1 Logitech Z4 setup, and the sound is only coming out of the left speaker. I have checked the wires, they are fine, and both speakers do work - but it could be the socket that's the problem. It's plugged into the line-in socket, I have put the output in System Preferences to Headphones, and everything is inserted correctly.
What do I do?
EDIT: My sound system is plugged into the headphones jack. I have tried putting headphones into the headphone jack and the sound also only comes out of the left earbud.
Mine sounds muffled on the left when compared to the right speaker.
Its very noticeable when you play around in your balance settings (max left or max right) that the volumes are different.
Does anyone know where I can find some of the system images such as the scroll bars, and "stoplight's". Just the main ones.

i am in search for the best cloning application to clone & backup my the main Hard Drive. I do not mind paying for it. Free is better!
I just have way too many stuff installed on my main hdd. I just cant imagine that hdd failing and the time I have to spend to install everything back..
It's going to be used mainly for work, which involves me having multiple programs at once open, including word, powerpoint, graphpad, endnote, internet, mail, and probably itunes.
Also, I play WoW and want to play SC2 on at least high settings ideally. I currently have a 24" monitor at home that I could either hook a laptop up to, or get a average gaming desktop.
I'm very happy with my 2010 MBP 15" i7 -- very slick little piece of kit!
However, there have been a few cases recently where I had to force a hard-shutdown of the laptop (holding the power button for 3 seconds). This is not because of the actual MBP per se, but because of some software that froze and wouldn't let me force-quit them.
Anyways, I'm wondering, since I had to hard-shutdown several times recently, if I should check my OS for any weird happenings? I always, always do Apple > Shutdown, but I've been forced to use the power button recently.
After checking out the system requirements for the upcoming Snow Leopard OS I'm wondering if my '06 MacBook 1.1 w/ a Core Duo processor meets the minimum requirements - specifically, the difference between a 32-bit processor vs. 64-bit processor.
"64-bit support requires a Mac with a 64-bit processor."
I currently have an G4 which I bought in 2001 and it's now time for an upgrade.
I want to use it for Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash and just wondering if the entry level iMac would be capable of coping with these programs?
