MacBook :: FINDING Snow Leopard System Requirements

Aug 5, 2009

After checking out the system requirements for the upcoming Snow Leopard OS I'm wondering if my '06 MacBook 1.1 w/ a Core Duo processor meets the minimum requirements - specifically, the difference between a 32-bit processor vs. 64-bit processor.

"64-bit support requires a Mac with a 64-bit processor."

OS X :: Snow Leopard Update Requirements For Full Compatibility?

Aug 27, 2009

Having looked at several sites including Apple I am still confused clicking on "about this MAC" on my MAC PRO 1.1 running 10.5.8 I get the following:
2X 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Nowhere do I find this item on either the OK or Not-OK list for full compatibility - I see references to "Core Duo" and similar but none to "Dual-Core". It seems that Snow Leopard will run but not take full advantage of capabilities. Also it seems that I have the old PCI bus ( it just says PCI no PCI 1 or PCI 2)and old graphics processor (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT:) Does anyone know where to get the graphics upgrade kit? B&H which has been suggested elsewhere has none
shame on Apple for discontinuing this item.

Hardware :: Finding Powered USB Hub Requirements?

Jul 7, 2010

I have a brand new, 15' macbook pro. I have noticed that the computer only has two USB hubs, but I need to plug in multiple peripherals, such as a mouse, flashdrive, printer, external hard drive, etc.

I recently bought an unpowered four-port USB hub. I am guessing that the power to the USB ports is limited, and so I should only run devices with low power requirements off of it. What are the power requirements of various USB devices? I know this seems like a simple question, but I cannot find a list on the internet.

I was curious if my Macbook will be able to run Snow Leopard because some people say it needs 4GB RAM and I can replace my ram, but I really just want to run it smoothly on my macbook.

Software :: Shared Library Errors - System Not Meet Requirements To Update

May 28, 2008

Getting error message:
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "-<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_System><>"

Getting similar message when I tried opening other Microsoft, Photoshop, palm desktop, and AOL applications. (Since the only application that now opens is Final Draft, perhaps this is sign that my focus needs remain in on screenplays?) Tried downloading and reinstalling my current update version: 10.4.11 It said my system doesn't meet the requirements to update (even though it currently exists as this & I have enough disc memory available.)

MacBook Pro :: Using Intel SSD - Finding Advice On Snow Leopard Installation From UTD Disk?

Jan 22, 2010

Here's the deal: I have the most recent 17" UMBP, purchased last August, 2009 and got the Snow Leopard Up To Date Disk, did an install on my stock Hard Drive and have been VERY happy with everything for the past few months.

But... All these threads championing the latest Intel SSD G2 have finally gotten to me and, I just purchased the 80GB model from Newegg. It should be here tomorrow.

Now, I ask that you confirm, a specific question about installation from my UTD disk and then advise.

note that I've searched a ton about this subject. It's been answered in so many conflicting ways, I'm running it by you guys once again.

So then, it seems that I can NOT install Snow Leopard from my UTD disk onto the new, fresh Intel SSD installed into my 17" UMBP. This is the case, yes?

A workaround, I figure, would be to install Leopard 10.5 onto the new SSD and then to a clean and erase and then instal of 10.6 on top. I assume the UTD will read 10.5 and let the upgrade proceed.

So, finally, a question: Should I be worried about installing a total of two OSs given that I (cheaply!) opted for the smaller 80GB SSD and that 10.6 doesn't support TRIM?

I've just booted up to 64-bit kernel and all apps load instantaneously!

MacBook Pro :: After Installing New Snow Leopard OS Did Not Have Bluetooth Option Under My System Preferences

Aug 29, 2009

I recently discovered after installing the new Snow Leopard OS that I did not have a bluetooth option under my system preferences. I own a mid 2008 Macbook Pro (pre-unibody, more info below) and I know that I've used it before. I recently took my computer in to be repaired by Apple because the keyboard and trackpad were inconsistently responsive, and to fix it they simply replaced the entire top panel (with the keyboard and trackpad). I have also checked under the system profiler and it says that there is no information available for my bluetooth...what exactly does this mean? Did they forget to reinstall it? or what?

So first I installed Snow Leopard with my orignal 2gb of Ram, and it was fine. Then, I installed the 6gb of Ram and it booted up fine and I checked "About this Mac" and it said "6gb of ddr3 ram" or something like that. So I thought all was well. After that, I was transferring some large files from an external HD over to my Mac (clean install), so I went to have some lunch
