Hardware :: Wireless Keyboard W/ Built In Trackpad?
Aug 10, 2010
Apple needs to make the wireless keyboard w/ built in trackpad. Anyone else like this idea? I'd rather have this instead of a separate trackpad to go along with a wireless keyboard.

Can anybody recommend a good bluetooth keyboard with built in trackpad or trackball that works well with Leopard? I need something small and slim.

I'm installing OS X on my Apple TV (because I got sick of the regular ATV OS being stupid about network mounts), so I thought I'd take advantage of having a real OS on there and toss a keyboard in the living room in case we want to browse the web or something. I don't want a mouse laying around, just a slim wireless (RF) keyboard with a built-in touchpad. Anyone have any recommendations?

I've wanted a trackpad style device for desktop computing ever since I got my Macbook Pro earlier this summer. Apple has finally obliged.
I noticed they cleverly designed the trackpad to be the same "width" as the wireless keyboard. I think this could, and should give rise to an integrated keyboard, trackpad device. Here's two ideas for how to accomplish this:
1. Sell an integrated wireless keyboard/trackpad peripheral
2. Make the edges of all future wireless keyboards and magic trackpads magnetic, allowing them to "snap" together at one's will, while also allowing for right and left hand preferences.
Crappy optical mouse surfaces have long been a thorn in the side of many HTPC owners, I am sure, and the Magic Trackpad should begin to alleviate that problem. Imagine how slick an integrated keyboard/trackpad linked to a a new unibody Mac Mini under an HDTV would be! Hopefully Apple makes this or someone comes up with an easy DIY solution. Off to research magnetic tape lol

Apple should make a wireless keyboard/trackpad all in one so that we don't have to resort to using tape.
Anyway, I can move my keyboard around on my desk and the trackpad is perfectly lined up with the keyboard at all times.

Does anyone know of a tray that holds the Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad together? I've got a Mac Mini in the living room (Plex setup), and controlling everything from the couch is messy and inconvenient having the trackpad detached from the keyboard.

Iv just bought my very first Apple Laptop and so after years of using Windows I am not very good with it yet. So basically the problem is I'm left handed and when I play games my right had sits on the trackpad to use the W, A, S, D keys, while in my left I'm using a HP USB plug n play mouse (untill i can aford a magic mouse). I need to disable the trackpad because its interfering while a play. I have been to "System Preferences > Trackpad" but there I see no disable option. Is there a way?

So my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.

For reasons I would rather not get into, let's say that I had to stop using my built-in wireless card and had to switch to a USB adapter. Let's also say that the driver for the Asus & Hawking adapters (both re-packaged versions of the same crap) are buggy as hell and cause system panics when large memory consumers + crappy network driver are both in use (iTunes or RSync over the wireless).

I have changed both sets of batteries. Turned them off and back on multiple times. Only reason I am able to ask this question is because I'm using my phone. I need my computer back. No I don't have a wired mouse or keyboard laying around. The mouse isn't registering or moving on the screen. The keyboard was working until I tried turning it off and back on. Now nothing is working.

I've just bought a Mac mini to use as a media centre, and I picked up the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse while I was at it. It wasn't until I got home that I read the "requirements" section on the side of the mouse and keyboard boxes, where it states that an existing keyboard and mouse are needed for setup.
I have a USB mouse, but no keyboard (my other Mac is a MBP), and nowhere to borrow one from (all my friends have laptops).

Bluetooth says my keyboard is paired, configured, and connected (and it works).Keyboard under System Preferences says "no keyboard found" and it continues to search for the keyboard. I have rebooted and also deleted and added the keyboard. Should I be concerned? Does the iMac need service ?

I was just wondering what all of your thoughts were regarding these two keyboards. I know I can't get the Wireless Pro new anymore, however I can get it used for $20 from someone I know.
The new aluminum one however, I can get for about $40 used or just buy a new one for $70. I'm looking to buy a used one so it's pretty much the Wireless Pro for $20 vs the Wireless Aluminum for $40.
This will be going towards a set-up with my MBP which will be on an mstand, with an external monitor. I've already gotten the Magic Mouse so I'm trying to find a nice Bluetooth keyboard to compliment it.

Not only has my MacBook got hideous discoloration on the palmrest and trackpad, but now the keyboard and the trackpad aren't even responding! The number lock (or F6 key), and the Caps Lock key are both turned on - does this have anything to do with it? The problem started when I launched a DVD with the Apple remote (something I had never done before).
When I quit the application and reverted to the desktop, the keyboard and the trackpad were no longer functioning. I've tried everything. I've switched off the computer, I've rebooted about twelve times now, nothing works. I have to admit, this is my sixth computer in twenty years and I've never had problems of this magnitude.

I've got a black plastic MacBook running Leopard 10.5.6. My laptop was running sluggishly, but no real problems, so I restarted it, and now the keyboard and trackpad don't work at all. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC (the keyboard did work in letting me reset the PRAM, but nothing works once it boots to the login screen.)

I was just chatting with a friend on iChat and my keyboard and trackpad became completely unresponsive. I had sent a message to him, then went to reply to his response and there was just nothing there as far as input was concerned, both were completely unresponsive.
The only other running apps at the time were Mail.app and FontExplorer X Pro (which is always open for me, much like finder). Anyone have any notions why something like this would happen. In 6 years of Mac portable use (powerbooks and Macbook Pros), I've never had this happen to me. I had to hold the power button for 5 seconds to shut the computer down.

I just got my new $599 Mac Mini hooked up tonight. Wow. This thing is fast considering I still have only the 1GB of memory in it. For regular stuff, it feels as fast as my 2.4 GHZ iMac with 4GB of memory and normal speed hard drive.
Anyway, it works pretty good with my TV.
However, what type of keyboard or mouse do you recommend? Right now I'm having to use my powerbook to control it, using teleport along with a wired keyboard and mouse plugged into the back, hidden, just so it doesn't complain about not having one.
I don't know if I should go with the two Apple products, keyboard and mouse.
OR should I get a keyboard with a built in trackpad, since I will mainly be using it on the couch. What do you recommend?

I have some strange problem after updating my MacBookPro4,1 to 10.5.7. After a while (can be a few hours) the trackpad and keyboard stop working. When I then put the MBP to sleep and wake it up, both work again but only for about maybe 5-10 minutes. This can be reproduced (put to sleep, works for 5min, put to sleep, works for 5min, etc.) When I reboot it works again for some hours.

The other day my battery died on me and after I had plugged it in and restarted, I was unable to enter in my password at the login screen because the keyboard and trackpad wouldn't respond. I tried repairing the disk and permissions but I still can't get past the login screen. I know I can always reinstall leopard but there are a few files I haven't had the chance to backup. Any way to get back those files before I reinstall?
