Hardware :: Wireless Keyboard Dropping Signal?
Oct 6, 2010
Is this an issue for anyone else? Recently got my first wireless Apple keyboard for the living room. It seems to lose signal a bit in certain positions. Might be AntennaGate #2, I haven't quite figured out if I'm blocking signal or what. Generally I move it a bit and signal comes back right away.

I'm having trouble with my macbook. It's dropping the wireless signal right and left...sorta. Airport isn't disconnecting, it just stops recognizing the signal until I cycle the airport card off and on.

I'm curious if anyone else has this problem, and if so, how to fix it. First of all, I'm convinced this mac pro is a lemon, and it was supposed to get replaced on my last repair but the Apple Store decided not to. (Even after promising they would)
I've been through 4 ATI X1900XT graphics cards, a logic board, a super drive, and a failed hard drive. Basically, I've not been able to really use my Mac Pro since December 2008. It's been in and out of service consistently since then.
Anyways, I just got it back last night and was having problems keeping the airport connected. (BTW- it's done this before, but not since having my logic board replaced) It will pick up the signal, keep it for approx. 2 minutes, then drop it and "scan for networks" it will then find it again on it's own, and repeat the process over and over and over.
I figured it was possibly software so I went through the trouble this morning of doing an erase and install on the machine, and much to my dismay that did nothing to solve the problem. I am unable to update any of my software, which means I can't use Aperture (because my library is on 2.1.3 and my disc copy is 2.0) so I basically can't use the computer until this is addressed.
Has anyone else experienced this before? My mac pro is not far at all from our Airport Extreme Base Station (the first N version). My macbook get's full signal pretty much all the time. Even my iPhone does.

My iMac (purchased Feb 6) is constantly dropping the wifi signal. It seems to happen randomly...sometimes it's there, sometimes not and I must go to Networking icon and all the steps to reconnect!. (My iPad2 and IPhone are not having this problem...or perhaps their 3G has kept me from noticing.)

My Wi-Fi drops out all the time and I have to reset the WiFi to reconnect. When I look in the signal bar is says it is still connected, this will happen about once every 2 to 3 minutes. I have contacted the apple help desk and was told it must be my modem. I have two phones, an ipad, 2 windows laptops and my macbook pro is the only one that has problems with the WiFi. have also taken it to a repair agent and was told it was my modem.

My TimeCapsule drops the WiFi signal every 10 minutes or so for about 10 seconds; the light is blinking yellow during that time, and then it comes back to everything ok.
The TC is in Bridge Mode behind my router. I can connect to the internet via the router all the time - no connection lags there, it's just the TimeCapsule that stops the connection. No entries in it's logs, though.
I'm running 10.6.2, and the TimeCapsule is on 7.4.2 (same issue on 7.3.2 and 7.4.1).
As it is, it basically kills iChat and Skype on top of it's impact on web browsing and the like.

all threads are outdated from 2006 and 2007 as far as I looked, or has a different issue. My macbook is a 2009 model running 10.6.4, using a linksys router, signal will drop for no reason. The bars are full, but nothing will connect. NO messenger, web browser, or downloading software will work, like its dead. This usually happens if I keep my computer on over night for huge downloads (1GB+).To fix this, I just have to click on the airport icon on the top right corner of my screen, choose disconnect, wait 3 seconds, then choose reconnect and it will work again.

Equipment: iMac 21.5" 2.5GHz Quad Core i5 Â
Internet Set-up: Cable modem to iMac EthernetÂ
Problem: After recent update to Lion 10.7.4, my Wi-Fi signal via Internet Sharing keeps dropping. Have multiple iDevices failing that were working perfectly with 10.7.3 (Nook and iPhone 4). iPhone shows full Wi-Fi signal strength and works for a short time after reset (via Wi-Fi off/on, Internet Sharing off/on). Continues to show full Wi-Fi signal strength but loses connection after 1-2 minutes. And not just internet connection; I can't transfer pics/vids from iPhone to iMac either. Have switched to a channel no one nearby is using (channel 9) to no avail.

I have finally retired my 13 inch macbook i've had for over 3 years. I bought one of the unibody 13" macbook pros and did a clean snow leopard installation, then upgraded to 10.6.1. Since then my mac experience has gone from bright sunny days to death and doom.
My airport is the major issue, it keeps dropping signal and doesn't pick up my netgear router. it works for 5-10 minutes then just looses it by itself. i try and see if there is an update or something for it but it crashes the airport and i have to switch the airport off and then on again. This is along with all my favorite snow leopard/13" mbp issues which include but not limited to the laptop freezes, hangups, and just failing to come out of sleep mode!!! most of these issues requires me to force restart the machine. I'm now back to my old laptop seeing that I'm struggling to connect wirelessly.

Often times, the signal gets weak.... and then dies. I know its not my router cause my iPod touch is able to connect to it fine. And then it took me 20-30mins to reconnect. At some points, it see the router, but then says "connection timeout" or it just doesn't connect and then my router disappears.

I just bought a MBP 13 inch in August '09 and Ive been experiencing consistent dropped internet connections wherever I go. I'm in college right now, and I have wireless internet at my dorm and my connection keeps dropping randomly and the only way I can reconnect is by turning on and off Airport. I just went home today and Im experiencing the same scenario with my Home Wireless Network connection. Anyone know whats going on or how I can fix this?

My iMac has been connected wirelessly to my D-Link DI-604 802.11g router for near 4 months now.
About 3 days ago, the iMac started to exhibit strange problems.
Every 3-4 minutes, the connection drops.
The airport icon at the top shows full bars (and the router is about 2 feet from the iMac) but the internet does not work anymore.
Also, if I deconnect and try to reconnect, at first it gives me an error ("there was an error connecting to network XXX"), then my network disappears from the list for 1-2minutes and then I can connect.
I think it has to do with an authentication problem but the password is correct etc.
I don't know what may cause this.
My PC with a wireless card is unaffected.
It seems to be a software problem with my iMac.

Is there something wrong with my computer?? Some special update that I don't know about?? this is so annoying!! I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 but this happened also on 10.5.7 and I am using an early macbook pro model - about 3 years old. I will be connected to the wireless fine all day then like right now it drops the signal and i have to hook my computer up to an ethernet cable. I can restart modem, router, and computer but I haven't found a solution except to try again in a couple of hours and it will work fine. I know it's a problem with the computer itself and my apple care just expired so i hope it's not a hardware issue. Anyone know anything? I've tried changing the password protection on the router but still same result. Just pissed off that my $3000 computer can't hold a wireless signal.

After upgrading to Leopard my Mac Book Pro continuously drops the connection to our wireless connection. After many attempts the only method I found to correct the situation is to perform a restart. Before the OS upgrade the wireless connection worked perfectly.
I am connecting through a Linksys router with a Time Warner cable connection.

I'm using a Macbook 13" and am running 10.4.11.
So the problem that I'm having is that at random times I lose connection. At the same time the PC-s that are connected to the same network have connection, plus the ISP said that everything seems to be fine on their side. So there seems to be an issue with the WiFi on the MB. It just loses the connection and can't find it for about a minute and some times it takes about 5 minutes for it to reconnect to the network. And the problem isn't limited to only one network, but actually happens in different networks. It started as a minor inconvenience, but now it's starting to really bug me. And it seems that I'm not even making it up: [URL]

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X (10.6.8) and I have a Netgear DGN1000 wireless modem router. My laptop wireless connection keeps dropping out lately but the internet connection itself is okay - my provider tested and no dropouts show up so it is just the wireless connect from my laptop thats dropping out.

My Macbook Pro won't hold a wireless signal. I don't have another wireless signal to test, but have tested other devises which connect fine.
'07 model MBP core duo running OS4.11 + original Airport (hey it still works). The MBP will only stay connected now if my base station within 10' or so. It might connect 30' away, but looses the signal after loading a few pages online. It seems like its getting worse -- maybe not, but seems like it is. I can connect just find with my other MBP, iPod (streaming audio across the house, etc) and PS3.

Has anyone had this problem? Since updating to 10.6.2 my wireless signal will stop working after about five minutes, the only fix is to turn off my wireless connection then back on again and its fine. I'm on a Mac Pro, the Mrs has a Macbook with 10.5 and she gets no hassle at all so I'm pretty sure its not the router.

I get internet from my neighbor next door, and where exactly about 18 ft. apart. I know that having a repeater or an external antenna can solve the problem but i cant afford those things right now. I know that on pc you can go to task manager and conentrate your bandwidth percentage to internet explorer, but is there anything like that i can do to my mac? also any other free way would be good too.

I'm running OS X version 10.4.11 (Tiger). It's a 13" Macbook, two years old, from August 2007. I've recently been having a bunch of problems with it.
First, it drops its wireless connection a lot. Most of the time this happens while I'm playing World of Warcraft, but I've seen it happen even when I'm not. Everyone else connected to the wireless will have absolutely no problem with it, but my Airport icon in the upper righthand corner of my screen will go grey and then connect again, then go grey, connect, etc. I also experience a lot of latency in my connection when others don't (example with WoW... someone else will have 98ms latency, and mine will shoot up to 2500ms or so). Most of the time when this happens my entire computer seizes up. My game skips, my iTunes skips, my mouse skips or won't even move, I can't type or click, etc. Additionally, I've had it happen even when I'm connected to the internet with an ethernet cable with Airport turned off, and my internet connection will die completely until I restart my computer.
I've had problems with this computer in the past as well. About two months after I bought it, it wouldn't boot up and I had to reinstall the operating system. Then a year after I bought it, my motherboard crashed, and they couldn't really tell me why it might've happened.
Second, I've had two kernel panics in the past two months. The first one was July 18th, 2009, and the second one happened just about half an hour ago today (Sept 4th). The panic.log is as follows (both dates are included):

Two days ago I got a 'new' refurbished 13" MBP from Apple to replace my aging 2006 MB. It's ok, but not quite as nice as I expected. One major thing I've noticed is that the wireless reception is much worse than my old MacBook. They're both connected to a Netgear WGR614 v9, but the MB is getting about 2/4 bars, while the MBP is constantly dropping the connection. In fact, right now I have the MB booted in Win7 and it's running Connectify, in order to share the connection with the MBP. I'm downloading the latest software updates right now, and then I'll see if any firmware is available, but I doubt that will make much of a difference. Is this because the new MBP is made from aluminum?

I am having a huge issue with my wireless dropping once connected to my MacBook Pro (Model A1278) 13.3". Wireless connections are not dropping on my iPad/Laptops/Iphone. Running Leopard 10.6.8 and have updated everything. It started about a month ago and is inconsistent in terms of how long I stay connected, but never more than 10mins. Luckily I run an SSD and can reboot in 10seconds.
