OS X :: 10.6.2 Wireless Signal Cuts Out Constantly

Dec 9, 2009

Has anyone had this problem? Since updating to 10.6.2 my wireless signal will stop working after about five minutes, the only fix is to turn off my wireless connection then back on again and its fine. I'm on a Mac Pro, the Mrs has a Macbook with 10.5 and she gets no hassle at all so I'm pretty sure its not the router.

MacBook Pro :: Display Constantly Cuts Out?

May 27, 2012

the display's started cutting off unexpectedly. It started a few months ago with random restarts, which I thought were caused by a bad hard drive, but it turns out permissions errors, stacked up over the years, really can bork your computer. I replaced the hard drive (didn't mind opening her up, since she's well out of warranty), but the problem kept occuring - only with the screen going dark randomly. I thought the new hard drive was dying, too. But here's how it's been going down lately. About twice a day, the screen will go black. Not just the backlight; it's as though the display has been turned off. I can't wake it from the display sleep, but it's not for lack of hitting the space bar repeatedly. Keyboard backlight stays on for a second, and then goes dark, at which point, I'll force a shutdown and try to restart. All of which is messing with my data; I've been doing a permissions repair pretty much daily now, and there's loads of 'em to repair. I noticed today, when it happened earlier, that my hard drive is still spinning, and USB peripherals retain their power. So what is causing my display to cut out like this, and how do I keep it from happening again (at least this frequently) until I can afford a new MacBook?

Mac Pro :: 2006 Dropping APX Signal Constantly?

May 18, 2009

I'm curious if anyone else has this problem, and if so, how to fix it. First of all, I'm convinced this mac pro is a lemon, and it was supposed to get replaced on my last repair but the Apple Store decided not to. (Even after promising they would)

I've been through 4 ATI X1900XT graphics cards, a logic board, a super drive, and a failed hard drive. Basically, I've not been able to really use my Mac Pro since December 2008. It's been in and out of service consistently since then.

Anyways, I just got it back last night and was having problems keeping the airport connected. (BTW- it's done this before, but not since having my logic board replaced) It will pick up the signal, keep it for approx. 2 minutes, then drop it and "scan for networks" it will then find it again on it's own, and repeat the process over and over and over.

I figured it was possibly software so I went through the trouble this morning of doing an erase and install on the machine, and much to my dismay that did nothing to solve the problem. I am unable to update any of my software, which means I can't use Aperture (because my library is on 2.1.3 and my disc copy is 2.0) so I basically can't use the computer until this is addressed.

Has anyone else experienced this before? My mac pro is not far at all from our Airport Extreme Base Station (the first N version). My macbook get's full signal pretty much all the time. Even my iPhone does.

Intel Mac :: It Is Constantly Dropping Wifi Signal

My iMac (purchased Feb 6) is constantly dropping the wifi signal. It seems to happen randomly...sometimes it's there, sometimes not and I must go to Networking icon and all the steps to reconnect!. (My iPad2 and IPhone are not having this problem...or perhaps their 3G has kept me from noticing.)

MacBook Pro :: Won't Hold A Wireless Signal?

Sep 3, 2010

My Macbook Pro won't hold a wireless signal. I don't have another wireless signal to test, but have tested other devises which connect fine.

'07 model MBP core duo running OS4.11 + original Airport (hey it still works). The MBP will only stay connected now if my base station within 10' or so. It might connect 30' away, but looses the signal after loading a few pages online. It seems like its getting worse -- maybe not, but seems like it is. I can connect just find with my other MBP, iPod (streaming audio across the house, etc) and PS3.

Is this an issue for anyone else? Recently got my first wireless Apple keyboard for the living room. It seems to lose signal a bit in certain positions. Might be AntennaGate #2, I haven't quite figured out if I'm blocking signal or what. Generally I move it a bit and signal comes back right away.

PowerPC :: How To Extend Wireless Signal On A 12"

Jan 25, 2007

I live where there are city-wide WiFi connections. I actually live a block or two from one of the routers. The only problem is that my powerbook 12" has the hardest time picking up a signal, in fact I often have a hard time picking up wireless signals unless I'm right near them.

I realize this is one fault of the 12-banger, but it's almost as if mine sucks more than usual. Anyways, I know there is a way to extend the wireless capabilities. I've seen hacks where an antenna is actually soldered on, which is a route I would rather not take. If I had a windows machine there are several USB adapters to extend the range. Are there any of these that will work with a Mac?

MacBook Pro :: Wireless Network Signal Very Weak?

Jul 24, 2009

So, recently I just moved into another house and, unfortunately, where I'm at, I'm not able to get internet service through my old provider (Verizon) and they were kind of my only option at this point. However, during this time, my laptop has been able to connect to a free, available, public wireless network near where I'm at. When I'm in a certain area of my house, it works great, but when I'm on the other side, in my office, I get next to nothing. Given that I need to do a lot of work out of my office, is there any sort of thing I can buy that will extend the signal to that part of house?

Mac Mini :: Can't Get Multiple Devices To Connect To Wireless Signal

Mar 28, 2012

I just got a Mac Mini no too long ago and while moving to my new apartment, my wireless router had a tragic accident and is no longer with me. So I thought "hey, I will just use my Mac Mini to broadcast a wifi signal so my other devices can connect to it." So I spent the morning setting up the internet sharing in the Mac Mini system preferences. Got my Dell Studio 1555 to connect with no issues. But my roommates acer notebook won't pick up the wifi signal at all. Checked it on both of our smart phones (both are android models), my nook, and even my ipod touch. It is only showing up on the dell for some reason. I was wondering if anyone else has encoutered this issue before Mac mini is currently set up with 128bit wep with a 13 character password.

my Mac Pro has a very weak wireless connectivity 4-10% packet loss on average, so I want to try to upgrade it's Airport antennae (I've had the same issues on my PC before I bought Mac Pro, I fixed them by upgrading the antenna).

Does anyone have any experience with external antennae for the built-in Mac Pro Airport card?

What are the plugs in Airport called? (RP-SMA is that right?)

Are there any converters to RP-TNC, so I could plug a normal external PC antenna? Will there be any problems?

Mac Pro :: Its Constantly Losing Wireless Connectivity?

Mar 13, 2012

I have a PC laptop which also uses the wireless and has never had a problem. My Mac Pro loses access to the net every few minutes or so. I usually follow a sequence of "Turn AirPort Off" / "Turn Airport On" to cycle the connection, and this works but only for a temporary solution until it drops out a few minutes later.also link to pic here..[URL] It always shows full bars even though in the activity monitor it just flatlines or flutters near 0kB/sec. Like many others, my connection drops although the wireless signal icon remains full. I've noticed that as long as my system doesn't idle (ie - if I'm downloading something, or on a webpage which is always sending or recieving data) the wireless connection seems alright. But if I am on a webpage (for instance, this Apple website which is idle and not sending or recieving data) for a few minutes or am away from the computer for 5 minutes, the connectivity dies and I cant access the net. I then follow a sequence of "Turn AirPort Off" / "Turn Airport On" to cycle the connection, and this works but only for a temporary solution until it drops out a few minutes later. Also, can I ask that NO ONE suggest that I hook my computer up via the ethernet cable as there is no access points upstairs and I'm not going to pay a tonne of money to get one installed when I paid a tonne of money for my "AirPort Extreme" so I didnt have to (which was just over 2 years ago).

Its been a constant problem for the last 12 months and the short-fix of "Turn AirPort Off" / "Turn Airport On" to cycle the connection has driven me to madness (especially when I write a lot of information into a site for example this, and after 15 minutes I click the next button or send and dont realise the net is no longer connected and I LOOSE EVERYTHING I'VE JUST TYPED. It's happened 1000's of times.

Hardware :: Upgrade Internet Signal And Speed / Install Range Extender Or Wireless Access Point

Sep 6, 2009

I am running ATT DSL Extreme 3.0 and have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I currently only get wireless in approx. half of my house, and the half in which I don't get it, will be needing it. So I am going to need to buy a range extender or wireless access point? I am a college student so I don't have a large budget, but I am looking for advice. Should I stick with Linksys and just buy one of their range extenders, or should I buy an Airport Extreme and hope the N signal is stronger? I am going to be sharing files soon when I get my Mac Mini HTPC setup going on in the living room to this from my other iMac's and MBP.

In summary, I am just not sure if it would be worth the extra $ for the Airport extreme or if I should just stick with the linksys.
