Hardware :: Titanium PowerBook Only Starts On Reset
Mar 19, 2009
I have an old Titainium powerbook which I was going to give to a friend to access the internet whilst he is at work, only problem is that it does not seem to want to start. If I press the start button I get a distorted sounding start-up noise then nothing (not even a grey screen) The caps lock light lights up but nothing else.
If I press the re-set button on the back then the power button it starts up fine and works without any problem other than having to re-set the clock and date. I thought it might be a problem with the pram battery so I have just changed this for a new one, but its still the same. The main battery is dead but thats OK as it will be used on the mains adaptor.
i was wondering if you guys knew of any good desktops to use with Titanium PowerBooks. I am getting one in a few hours to use as a main machine, and I will be using it quite a lot. What images do y'all think would look good with it?
I am thinking of buying a Powerbook Titanium with 1Ghz, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, with Leopard installed. I was wondering how this system will perform. Does anyone have a very similar setup, or any info?
I amwondering how fast it will startup, the overall speed of opening windows and Apps...web browsing...anything you think could help.
im running a powerbook g4 titanium running on OS X 10.4.11. im trying to find out what are the best upgrades i can get, hardware/component wise, on my powerbook to make it better. i dont know where i can find this information. i want to upgrade to the highest possible point.
Anyone out there install Leopard on a Powerbook Titanium? Results... good, bad, ugly? I have a Powerbook 'Ti' 1GHZ with 1gig, i imagine it'll choke on any of the niffty core animations. what say you?
I have and old, but powerful, powerbook g4 667 (gigabit ethernet) with leopard 10.5.2 and runs well, but the battery is crazy:
Capacidad de plena carga (mAh):26564 (full capacity charge)
It's possible to fix? I read that reseting power management, but doesn't seems to work. It's is possible that leopard is causing this? the battery problems begin when install leopard.
my powerbook g4 titanium hard drive was makin weird noise and then it died and I can't get into operating system. now when I power on my laptop it only shows now a square with a smile face and a question mark. if I buy a new hard drive on ebay how do I install the OS on the hard drive? is it hard? will I be able to install it by myself? is there a website with the steps how to install the OS?
My Titanium powerbook was running when suddenly the screen went crazy, flashing colors and bars, then went blank black. Now can't boot at all, even from external drive. If I hold down the start key I eventually get a faint humming sound and the little "alive" light at the bottom of the display bezel flashes for a short time. If I repeat this it takes at least 15 seconds to happen. I have turned it off for a while and even removed the battery but nothing changes. Can't afford a new one, need help to fix it.
I've got a 15in Titanium Powerbook which I've had for about 4 years and can't see any reason to change it. I'm running OSX 10.3.9, 867Mhz processor, 1MB L3 Cache and 1GB SDRAM. I'd like to get an external monitor, at least 20in, maybe a 23in. I have a few questions though.
1) A fellow mac user said my PB might struggle to power the larger monitor due to the older graphics card. Is this true?
2) If yes... are there any upgrades I can do to allow me to buy an external monitor?
3) If its fine, any recommendations on monitor? I can afford the 23in Apple Cinema, but I don't like spending money for no benefit. How are the other options compared to the Apple? IE Dell/Samsung etc.
4) Anything else I should check/know before purchasing?
5) Any recommended UK sites? If I go Apple I'll go to Regents Street, but what about other options.
I'm looking to get this titanium powerbook but it has a broken screen, possibly bad backlight? I can get it for a good price and I would love to have it to replace my ibook. I don't know the specs for sure but I am positive I think it's the DVI version since it has the keyboard that looks like the ibooks(same placement for the keyboard release latches). The guy said it worked fine on an external monitor but just recently he said it won't boot now and it now makes a high-pitched whining sound. Anyone know what that is? I'd like to use it as a headless mac until I locate a new screen for it.
I'm going on a day long driving trip with my kids later this week and I kludged together a good solution of bungee cords to hold my titanium PB to the back of a seat so I can play movies for them. I got a Sony car inverter that seems to output an appropriate amount of power for the PB. On a test drive around the block with the DVD running, the PB seemed to get pretty hot, but otherwise worked fine. Is there any reason why I shouldn't go ahead with this setup? Anything I'm likely to wreck?
I was using my trusty powerbook 500 mhz and when i closed the screen while the machine was on, after @ 1/2 hour i opened the screen up and NOTHING!. i restarted and nothing again, the caps lock key will light up, so i am assuming the power supply is ok. No chime and black screen, any suggestions on what it might be...im thinking logic board, if so what ones will fit that model
I have a G4 MDD Dual 1.42ghz, When I hold down the Command-Option-P-R keys during restart it doesnt do anything. It keeps going straight to the gray screen and starts up. I dont know what to do. Anyone know whats the problem? Also my computer cant wake up from sleep or even go to sleep all the way.
Quicklook has stopped workingon my MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8. Pressing the space bar on a file yields nothing. Is there a way to update or reset it so it starts working again?
Info: MacBook Pro (17-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
It has been a while i havnt used my MacBook Air. I forgot my passwords to enter. How do I completely reset my computer so that passwords are disabled or just reset?
Info: MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.4), TalkTalk; Huawei Echolife HG532
My PB will no longer boot up. Get past the spinning wheel to the blue screen, then OS X progress bar that never loads. Ran Tech Tool Pro and OS 10.4 disk utility. Repaired permissions, no disk errors. Tried an install but only 1.9 GB of space left on 27GB HD. Installer crashes even with "Upgrade" Install (needs 72MB of space) as Language Install is finishing up. Reset P Ram. I can not "Unmount HD in order to strip disk. How do I show the HD in the Finder (Desktop) when booted off Install Disk? The HD mounts but I can not access it as I did with OS 6,7,8,9.... I can see my Sys, Aps & folders when I select "Create a disk image". Is the HD DOA? Running 10.4.11.
I am leaving for a week long trip and many parts of it will not be able to run the computer off of the powercord, which is a problem because I get about 40mins of wordprocessing use out of it when I run the battery alone. Can someone explain what the significance of these levels are for my Powerbook G4 15'' (Alm) 1.25GHz, namely the cycle count and full charge/remaining capacity?
how to back up to a CD, from where to back up and how to reload the back up to the hard drive. I'm particularly concerned because it seems that I lost several months of Quicken data from my hard drive.
when I go the DVD-Video section I put all the videos I wanted in and the chapters/Menu I wanted etc.
Then it said that I had a mixture of both PAL and NTSC (or however you spell it) which I already knew and was fine with because I wanted to test out what my PS3 could read and could not between files of .mkv, .avi, and .mp4 (ironically it play/read everything but the .mp4).
I have access to many microsoft software packages from my school and some classes require me to have certain software and some is PC only. So obviously i need windows on my mac. So they have Windows 7 Professional.
How Toast Titanium lets me put a 4.37GB DVD-R in my powerbook G4, then lets me drag like 20 AVI files into the Toast screen, then when I press record it starts encoding and takes forever to encode each one, and then when it's all finished after about 12 hours of encoding... THEN is when it chooses to tell me:
"Not enough space on the DVD-R"and aborts the whole burning process. What in the HELL. Is there any way to have Toast tell you how many AVIs you can put on one DVD-R BEFORE encoding them?
So I have an old iBook (12" G3) that I painted black. I want to replace the keys on it with dark keys. I heard that the Titanium Powerbook (400-500Mhz-ish) had keys that would work interchangeably with this iBook. Is this true?
I followed the directions on this website:[IRL] It didn't play in my DVD player because they say to burn it as a data disc. I dont know that if I used the Video TS option that subtitles will still work.
