View 4 Repliesi was wondering if you guys knew of any good desktops to use with Titanium PowerBooks. I am getting one in a few hours to use as a main machine, and I will be using it quite a lot. What images do y'all think would look good with it?

I remember reading about someone putting one in. I was wondering if anyone knew for sure or not.
I am thinking of buying a Powerbook Titanium with 1Ghz, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, with Leopard installed. I was wondering how this system will perform. Does anyone have a very similar setup, or any info?
I amwondering how fast it will startup, the overall speed of opening windows and Apps...web browsing...anything you think could help.
im running a powerbook g4 titanium running on OS X 10.4.11. im trying to find out what are the best upgrades i can get, hardware/component wise, on my powerbook to make it better. i dont know where i can find this information. i want to upgrade to the highest possible point.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have and old, but powerful, powerbook g4 667 (gigabit ethernet) with leopard 10.5.2 and runs well, but the battery is crazy:
Capacidad de plena carga (mAh):26564 (full capacity charge)
It's possible to fix? I read that reseting power management, but doesn't seems to work. It's is possible that leopard is causing this? the battery problems begin when install leopard.
my powerbook g4 titanium hard drive was makin weird noise and then it died and I can't get into operating system. now when I power on my laptop it only shows now a square with a smile face and a question mark. if I buy a new hard drive on ebay how do I install the OS on the hard drive? is it hard? will I be able to install it by myself? is there a website with the steps how to install the OS?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an old Titainium powerbook which I was going to give to a friend to access the internet whilst he is at work, only problem is that it does not seem to want to start. If I press the start button I get a distorted sounding start-up noise then nothing (not even a grey screen) The caps lock light lights up but nothing else.
If I press the re-set button on the back then the power button it starts up fine and works without any problem other than having to re-set the clock and date. I thought it might be a problem with the pram battery so I have just changed this for a new one, but its still the same. The main battery is dead but thats OK as it will be used on the mains adaptor.
My Titanium powerbook was running when suddenly the screen went crazy, flashing colors and bars, then went blank black. Now can't boot at all, even from external drive. If I hold down the start key I eventually get a faint humming sound and the little "alive" light at the bottom of the display bezel flashes for a short time. If I repeat this it takes at least 15 seconds to happen. I have turned it off for a while and even removed the battery but nothing changes. Can't afford a new one, need help to fix it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a 15in Titanium Powerbook which I've had for about 4 years and can't see any reason to change it. I'm running OSX 10.3.9, 867Mhz processor, 1MB L3 Cache and 1GB SDRAM. I'd like to get an external monitor, at least 20in, maybe a 23in. I have a few questions though.
1) A fellow mac user said my PB might struggle to power the larger monitor due to the older graphics card. Is this true?
2) If yes... are there any upgrades I can do to allow me to buy an external monitor?
3) If its fine, any recommendations on monitor? I can afford the 23in Apple Cinema, but I don't like spending money for no benefit. How are the other options compared to the Apple? IE Dell/Samsung etc.
4) Anything else I should check/know before purchasing?
5) Any recommended UK sites? If I go Apple I'll go to Regents Street, but what about other options.
I'm looking to get this titanium powerbook but it has a broken screen, possibly bad backlight? I can get it for a good price and I would love to have it to replace my ibook. I don't know the specs for sure but I am positive I think it's the DVI version since it has the keyboard that looks like the ibooks(same placement for the keyboard release latches). The guy said it worked fine on an external monitor but just recently he said it won't boot now and it now makes a high-pitched whining sound. Anyone know what that is? I'd like to use it as a headless mac until I locate a new screen for it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm going on a day long driving trip with my kids later this week and I kludged together a good solution of bungee cords to hold my titanium PB to the back of a seat so I can play movies for them. I got a Sony car inverter that seems to output an appropriate amount of power for the PB. On a test drive around the block with the DVD running, the PB seemed to get pretty hot, but otherwise worked fine. Is there any reason why I shouldn't go ahead with this setup? Anything I'm likely to wreck?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using my trusty powerbook 500 mhz and when i closed the screen while the machine was on, after @ 1/2 hour i opened the screen up and NOTHING!. i restarted and nothing again, the caps lock key will light up, so i am assuming the power supply is ok. View 18 Replies View RelatedI have a mirrored drive door G4 [dual 1.25 GHz] with 10.2.8. The newest browser I can run is Firefox 2.0.0.20. That browser will not successfully run some sites. Monster.com, for example.
I am unemployed just now and cannot afford to spend money on a new Intel machine. I have critical need of being able to run what I have here now:
Photoshop CS [no number suffix]
InDesign 3.0.1
Microsoft office X, 10.1.6
Filemaker pro 6 [although I do also own 7]
Text Soap 3
Roxio Toast 5.2.1
I have been told I could upgrade this G4 to 10.4. Supposedly that would allow me to run a current browser. I don't know if that is true, it is just something I was told.
I have multiple fears about making such an upgrade. First, where would you get the discs to do that, and how could you get any patches or upgrades that were created subsequent to its introduction?
Second, would all my software listed above work with 10.4?
I imagine I would need to make up an external drive that completely mirrored my current setup, in case it went wrong and I had to go back to what I have.
My need is to have a computer I can use to look for jobs effectively. Monster.com won't even let me log in with this browser. I consider buying some used machine with a current browser to use for my job search, but hate to waste the money.
Do the experienced and knowledgeable here have some advice for me? Is there a safe way to make some changes on this machine and retain my current array of software?
As soon as I get a job I will spend the money [I currently have saved] to buy a new Intel Mac. I just don't want to let that money go while I am unemployed. I have been for three months and have not gotten so much as a single interview.
I upgraded my mac, to the latest version of the OS. Half way through the update, the power went, and my whole system, is messed up.
I thought, its ok, ill re install it from the disk, ill only lose software that i have installed, all my data is backed up, its fine. After 1 hour of installing mac OSX.5 the loaded, fine... but a few problems.
The software that came on the mac, is not there now.
My mac keeps restarting my Airport.
My question, if i use the disks that came with my mac, can i have the software back on OSX.4 and then upgrade it like when OSX.5 came out? Would i have hte software back?
Not really sure if this belongs here or in "Buying Tips, Advice and Discussion", I think its here but feel free to move it if I'm wrong. That said, here's my question: Can I run a dual OS on my laptop? Its an Intel Core 2 duo 2ghz (2gig ram) with an Ati Radeon HD 2300 graphics and presently with Windows Vista Home Premium (manufactured by Acer - Aspire5720G).
View 13 Replies View RelatedSo I just purchased a new MBP and have Snow Leopard installed on my current machine. The original boot file is on my home computer (I am out of town) and trying to avoid having to download all over again.
Is there any way to "Clone" my current computer to have the operating system installed on my new machine?
I have had my mac for sometime now and love it but was looking for more info on how the operating system works. For example I understand in my applications folder there is my programs but what is the library and the system library? How does it all work etc? Does anyone have any handy links I can use to learn more about the workings of OSX?
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhat I would like to is to wipe everything off my mac (second hand) so that I can start again with everything clean and fresh. I've done this sort of thing before with other Macs by simply reinstalling the the start up disk - but this is where the problem lies - the disk that came with the Mac is only for OS 10.4.10 (Tiger) and the Mac is currently running OS 10.5.6 (Leopard) and I don't really want to downgrade (the weird thing is the Mac came with Leopard from the factory so I don't know whey it wasn't supplied with the disk). So is there any way I can delete everything else off the Mac (files, programs - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY change the "home file" name) with out loosing Leopard?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought my MBP about a month ago, and I bought VMWare Fusion to go with it. I need to run Windows to run Office, AutoCAD, and ChemCAD (I'm a chemical engineering student).
Is Fusion the best way to go, or should I get Parallels? (I haven't opened the Fusion software yet.)
Should I spend the money on Windows 7, or would Windows XP be fine?
Does anyone knows somewhere cheap to get Windows? And does it matter if it says it's for a PC? I know UltimateSteal currently has Office, but as far as I can tell they don't have Windows right now.
I got my MBP because my Gateway (big mistake, I know) crashed. It had the latest Office on it...is there a way I can use that instead of having to buy it again? (I don't want to use the Vista off it for obvious reasons.
Just got ahold of a iMac g3, 450mhz, 20gb hd, and 192mb of ram, (+airport +combo drive) what would be the best operating system I could put on here that would run normally?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just received my new mac and few days ago I had found a link in one of the threads about how to reinstall the oSX without all the unnecessary crap, in order to reduce the size of it.
I DON'T REMEMBER THE LINK...I spent hours and hours in the forum but I didn't find it...anybody knows about that article?
I have installed VMWare Fusion and am trying to install Windows 7 from an iso.I selected the iso when setting the new virtual machine up,
but when the virtual machine appears for the first time and tries to load the software, the following message is displayed:PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROMOperating System not found.
If you could add any 1 feature to os x, be it the way something looks or the way something operates or a completely new idea, what would it be? I have quite a few ideas but, keeping to the rule of 1 - Drag and drop to move the items in menus around.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a secondhand macbook pro with os x 10.5.
The only problem is that it's filled with the previous users junk
(about 70% of which is porn, lmao). I would like to do sort of
a wholesale delete and reduce the HD down to just the OS.
This wouldn't be a problem if I had the actual DVD, but unfortunatley
the one he gave me is damaged beyond repair. I don't have the money
to buy a new copy and I can't bring myself to pirate mp3's let alone an
operating system.
In short, is there a way to restore the OS to factory condition without
the use of the OEM dvd.
I have an old iMac G4 sitting in a box, to be honest it's probably not worth anything, I've seen them online So I'm looking to maybe give it away to somebody that just wants the internet and iTunes, etc.
I want to do a fresh installation of the operating system, so it's nice and clean for the next owner, but I don't have the disks for it, anymore!
1 - At the moment, it has OS X 10.3.9 on it, can I put Leopard 10.5.4 on it?
2 - If not what OS can I put on it, and how do I clean it up without the disks?
I just purchased my first mac and I begun to purchase software for it like Office and adobe CS. My question, when the new snow leopard releases; will software be compatible with the new Operating system? Or did I just waste alot of money?
