Hardware :: HP Officejet 6500 Printer Wireless Connection

Jan 3, 2010

We just purchased a HP Officejet 6500 Wireless printer for our home and currently have one desktop, and 2 laptops running windows xp. These machines have no problems connecting to the wireless printer. My G4 PB running 10.4.11 on the other hand has issues. The software says it is compatible with my Mac setup. I run through the HP Starter CD and install all drivers, when the installation is complete it says everything went fine. I have the printer installed and can choose to print with it. But when I do, I get the following. I have deleted and reinstalled a couple of times with out any success. Sorry for the huge photo, but it was kind of necessary to see everything, and I wasn't sure how to make it so you can click on it and enlarge.

PowerPC :: My Powerbook Won't Wake HP 6500 Wireless From Sleep?

Jan 14, 2010

When I try to print from my Powerbook G4 to my HP 6500 wireless printer it will not work. I have found out that if I turn off/on the printer then it will print. So, it must be an issue with the computer not waking the printer from a sleep mode. Anyone have a solution to this that doesn't consist of me turning off then on the printer? I have tried to reinstall a few times with no avail.

MacBook Pro :: Gone Thru 2 Corded USB Mice On My MBP?

Aug 28, 2009

Whats the deal? I've gone thru 2 corded USB mice on my MBP and both do not track correctly regardless of how I adjust the tracking speed. Is that common with Logitech corded mice? They work fine on my PC laptop. There just seems to be a slight lag. Also, where do you leave the apple mouse preferences tracking speed at when adjusting the Logitech driver tracking speed? In the middle?

Some Mice Not Working On New Mac Mini

Hardware :: Keyboard / Mice For New IMac

Nov 15, 2010

If you've seen my other mega-post you'll know what situation I'm in. If not, here's a simpler question which won't take quite so long to read! I am contemplating a new iMac. I LOVE it's looks - but I really don't like the new style of keyboard. It looks nice and stylish on its own, but next to the mega-big new iMacs I think it looks kind of silly, such a tiny keyboard next to such a big screen. Also, I dislike "chiclet" style keyboards. I like them to be big with regular big keys. I buy a desktop like the iMac precisely because I don't need to save space, I don't move my computer around so I don't need to have any of the compromises that go with laptops, such as a tiny keyboard and little screen - then Apple gives me a desktop with a huge screen and a tiny fiddly laptop-style keyboard. Ideally, I'd like a really old-school keyboard like the IBM Model M like the ones at clickykeyboards.com - and I understand they also sell original Apple Extended and Extended II keyboards which have the same old-school style and quality.

Do you think I could get an old Apple keyboard to work on a modern iMac with some adaptors? Are there any keys modern Macs need to have on the keyboard it wouldn't have. I know an old keyboard would look odd next to a new iMac but I'd quite like the juxtaposition of old and new styles and anyway I think the new keyboard looks silly anyway. Failing that, I have one of the white USB keyboards which came with my old iMac G5 - would that be a better compromise? It's at least an OSX-era keyboard and presumably would work okay on a modern Mac? If none of the above are good options, do any manufacturers make keyboards for the new iMac range which are standard-sized but match the look of the iMac? Or would any standard keyboard work on a Mac?

Hardware :: Do Non Bluetooth Cordless Mice Have No Lag

Apr 20, 2010

I was keen on getting a Bluetooth mouse to pair with an upcoming MBP purchase, to be used for very occasional gaming. In reading reviews, particularly customer reviews at Amazon, for even the top-rated Bluetooth mice, like the Razer Orochi, there are always some complaints of mouse lag. That led me to think that if even Razer's Bluetooth mouse can't execute Bluetooth well, perhaps I should consider getting a non-Bluetooth, cordless mouse, the ones with a USB receiver (what's it called? RF mouse?).

So I'd like to ask, do non-Bluetooth, cordless mice have the same lag issues as Bluetooth mice? Are they better for gaming? (I'll probably be playing mostly FPS) The impression I get from the many reviews I've checked so far is that they do lag less and that the lag only appears after significantly longer periods of inactivity, unlike a Bluetooth mouse like the Orochi, which powers down after only about 3 seconds.

If lag isn't an issue with these mice, then the Logitech Performance MX [URL] seems most appealing to me.

MacBook :: Unibody Trackpad And USB Mice Unresponsive

May 21, 2009

my wife's trackpad stopped responding to clicks today. The only function it will do is two fingers for right click. none of the gestures work, and the mouse cannot select anything, since it cannot left click. Same for tapping on the mouse as for actually physically clicking the trackpad down. I have restarted it a few times, and each time it functions normally for about a minute before it stops. Now the really weird part -- my USB mighty mouse does the same thing when plugged in. It works for about a minute, then suddenly the only thing her mb will recognize is the right click. I'm probably just going to have to take it in tomorrow, but if anyone could save me the trip.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Why Do Wired And Wireless Mice Have Different Accelerations

Jun 19, 2012

For some reason, when I plug in a wired mouse to my iMac, and then plug in a wireless mouse, the acceleration of both are totally different. The acceleration curve for the wired mouse seems to be about the same as it would be on a Windows computer, while a wireless mouse has the typical annoying Mac acceleration curve that many are aware of, which is an increased acceleration—when moving the mouse slowly, the acceleration is low, and when moving it quickly, the acceleration is high. I noticed this years ago but only recently switched back from a wired to a wireless mouse after it finally died, and I decided to take the jump back to wireless mice since they are far more common than wired ones these days.

Hardware :: Magic Mouse Tracking Is Slower Than Other Mice?

Nov 19, 2009

I have the latest 10.6.2 update but have a question about the tracking speed for the Magic Mouse.I am happy with the Magic Mouse but the tracking is slower than other mice I'm used to. I have put the tracking at the maximum speed and slower tracking is nice for sometimes clicking just where I need to but when I'm going from one side of the screen to the other it's hard. I also am using it on a mousepad. I know it's not required but seems more comfortable but the mouse goes off the end of the mouse pad when I go across the screen.

Hardware :: Can Bluetooth Mouse / Mice Work For Gaming

Jun 23, 2010

are bluetooth mice responsive enough to use for high speed gaming where precision mouse movement is critical? If so, which ones work best?

Long query:

I bought an iMac a year ago and I really like it. It was my first mac. I got the wireless mighty mouse and the wireless keyboard, but I didn't like them and switched to an old logitech 2-button mouse and I bought the full sized apple keyboard with numpad (wired). This meant I had my mighty mouse and my wireless keyboard sitting around as spare.

I just bought a mac mini server version this past Sunday. I love it. However, it is in my living room and connected to my 60" TV. I attached my old mighty mouse and my wireless keyboard via the bluetooth panel in the system preferences. The mighty mouse is VERY sluggish. I'm not talking about sensitivity. I mean that as I move the mouse, even if I move quickly, the mouse starts off really slow then after maybe half a second it zips along. It also is slow to respond to slow-downs in movement or direction changes. This makes gaming (for example City of Heroes) really painful. It was hard to avoid death because I couldn't quickly react with my characters.

Bottom line ... are bluetooth mice responsive enough to use for high speed gaming where precision mouse movement is critical? If so, which ones work best?

I'm prepared to buy a bluetooth mouse if they can be precise and snappy, but then again the mac mini server is really intended to be a media center, so if the answer is no, then its not a big deal. I can still play City of Heroes and other games fine on my iMac.

OS X :: New MBP Replacement?

Dec 13, 2008

I've had my first generation MBP since April of 2006. And my history of repairs on this thing is insane. I will list them later.

Just last week, I brought it in for intermittent brightness/dimming and it came back worse than before with the machine turning off by itself after 6 seconds of booting.

So it's back in repair. The genius says, if the same thing keeps happening, they'll have to give me a new mbp.

Which mbp do you think they'll give me (if they can't fix it)? The same one I have, the previous c2d or the latest one?

Here's a list of the problems I've had since I had my MBP:

Problem 1: Logic board, inverter, battery (due to recall) replaced
Problem 2: Top keyboard assembly replaced
Problem 3: Release latch assembly replaced
Problem 4: Logic board, fan assembly and something else replaced
Problem 5: Keyboard assembly replaced due to dancing backlight
Problem 6: Battery replaced having only 100ish battery cycles
(Current) Problem 7: Display inverter board, logic board, inverter/camera cable replaced

Seriously, I do IT consulting and w/o my main machine, it has simply been a pain in the @ss with a secondary one.

Mac :: MBP Case Gap After HDD Replacement?

May 19, 2009

I was wondering if it is possible to have the non-Unibody MBP top case sit flush with the bottom after replacing the HDD. On a couple previous generation MBPs, I, nor my local Apple Authorized Repair Center were able to replace the hard drive without leaving a noticeable gap between the top case and the bottom. I would really like to put a SSD in my computer, but would not like my machine to have that terrible looking gap. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to prevent this gap, if it all possible?

MacBook Pro :: How To Get A Replacement?

Dec 22, 2009

I have a Late 2008 15 MBP (Purchased March 2009). The display does not always remain closed. It occasionally pops up itself. I have sent it to Apple store twice.

The first time I brought it to the store, the genius bar observed the problem and said it's caused by weak magnets. So my laptop was sent to repair center.

Five days later, I picked up the laptop from the store and found they did not fix the problem and two screws at the bottom of the machine were missing.

The paperwork says they replaced display assembly due to "Sleep Function Not Working". WTF

I then sent the laptop to the same store for repair. This time the genius bar made a note on my laptop so that the staff at repair center could handle the issue carefully.

Yesterday, got my laptop back from FedEX. The problem was still there!! The paperwork says they replaced display assembly again. But this time the they found my problem.

I am 70 miles away from the store and it is irritated to drive back and forth.

I called Apple Care for a resolution. They apologized and said the only thing they could offer is to send me a prepaid shipping box and have the laptop repaired again.!!!

Guys, should I send my laptop in for the third time?? Or is apple supposed to offer a replacement? Please, don't say I am greedy... I spent all my college savings for this laptop and this makes me frustrated.

Thanks for all the commnets and suggestions. you guys rock!!

OK, after the second repair, i talked to their senior advisor. He said he is confident that the repair center will fix it this time. When we asked him for a replacement, he said "give us another try. If this repair does not solve the problem, we can discuss other options."

Today, I got my machine back from FedEX and they replaced the display assembly again... I already told their advisor my speculation which is magnets. It has nothing to do with display frame since they have replaced it three times and none of them solves the problem.

I already called the advisor and left a message for him... Hopefully he will call me back soon.

This is not a major issue. Why it is so difficult for Apple to fix it?
