View 1 RepliesI just bought a new 24 inch LCD monitor. It has a VGA, a DVD-D and a HDMI Port. I have a G5 Mac with a DVI-I and an ADC port. The monitor came with a VGA cable. The sales person sold me a DVI to DVI cable (single link, 18+ 1 pin), but I get this message on the screen - "check signal cable." Is this the wrong cable? I just moved so am thinking it might be that something's loose in the tower. Perhaps there is there a better way to connect the two. When I got home I read in the manual "Mac adapter For Apple Macintosh use, a separate plug adapter is needed to change the 15 pin high density (3 row) D-sub VGA connector on the supplied cable to a 15 pin 2 row connector." but that seems weird since neither of my ports are 2 rows. perhaps I should try DVI to HDMI? I do web design and video. Also, can you get these cables at Futureshop? I am now in a rather small town and don't have a Mac store.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI hook up a Samsung LCD to my MBA via the Mini DVI cable and everything works great. However, when I unhook the cable (regardless of whether the Mac is on/off), the Mac doesn't pick up that it is now only on a single display, when opening apps (say Firefox), and opens them as if they were on the secondary monitor (so I can only see the very left hand edge). I can't imagine that I would need to minimize or drag the window to the MBA display prior to unplugging the cable, every single time...?
The only work around I have been able to find is drop the display resolution to 8x6 and grab the edge of the window and drag it over. I've tried "Detect Displays", restarting and other "tinkering" to no avail.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought my Macbook Pro last september along with my Thunderbolt monitor.Everything was working until today (yes today was my first time bringing my Macbook Pro elsewhere) and when I moved it, the display shut off.then I realized that when I just move the Thunderbolt plug around it would turn on and off the display depending which side I would hold. would it be a problem with the Monitor cable? or a problem with the Macbook Pro itself? both are still under warranty, so I'm not worried, but it saves me the trouble of lugging either (especially the monitor) back to the Apple store.

I'm trying to plug my new mac mini into my Dell flat screen monitor. It doesn't seem to fit my HDMI to VGA cable so I'm assuming that my cable is in fact a DVI? The cable is actually a little too big for the VGA adapter and no spots for the screws.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI did just a bit of searching and found some cable answers but none that I thought fully answers my question, which is two-fold:
1. I am ordering a new 27" iMac but want to connect my Dell 30" monitor as a second monitor. I assume the iMac does not come with the necessary cable, but I'm not sure which one to buy. The Dell monitor is digital with a 2560x1600 resolution.
2. Would that same cable be able to connect a 2010 model Macbook Pro to the new iMac and/or the Dell?
The one area I feel Apple needs help is the multiple monitor situation. For years I have run laptops with 2-3 external monitors... I find myself having to go back to 2 monitors with either setup unless I buy some 3rd party hardware or shell out for a Mac Pro.
a way to extend the mini display port cable on the 24" monitor? I'm using it with a 2009 mac mini and want to put the mini in a cabinet which is too far for the standard connection. The USB easy, but I can't seem to find a solution for the display port.

I'm shopping around for external monitors, and I'm leaning a 27" monitor that natively displays 2048 x 1152. My question is, if I get a dual link dvi cable- will my iMac be able to display this resolution on an external monitor?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just hooked up my 24" samsung to my macbook pro, and it is very nice. I have a few questions which may have been answered but perhaps I wasn't searching right. Since the thread titles didn't seem to match right.First question, what kind of life does the macbook pro ( june 09 model)display have if I don't run the computer in clamshell mode. Just curious if I will burn it out quicker just running it like this. Now on to clamshell mode, is that the preferred mode to run? Or does the laptop get to hot. Once again just not sure on that one.Last question would be with regards to the graphics adapter. Typically unless I am playing a game I run with the 9400m. With the monitor connected, should I switch to the 9600m? I don't know if it would yield any different results.

I'm connecting the Macbook with the Apple Mini Displayport to DVI connector to a DVI cable to a Dell 2407 monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200. The resulting image is blurry. The fonts are blurry and drop shadows on the screen flicker quite badly. The resolution on my Macbook is indeed set to 1920x1200 to match my Dell 2407.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is the problem with the Mini Displayport to DVI adapter?
I know for a fact that the Dell LCD and the DVI cable work fine with my Windows 7 box. I have tried two different DVI cables as well.
