I've done a search and not really found what I'm after. So here it is..
I like to edit photos, but I've never been confident in doing this on my Macbook, as I edit them and then on another display they always look different and over exposed.
Is it just a bad screen for colour accuracy or is it the calibration? What's the best way to sort this?
I need to know how to calibrate my monitor so that I know what my photographs are going to look like before they get printed. Either that or would it be better to buy a third party calibrator, like X-rite?
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Iv e just purchased a new monitor an HP LP2475w sip panel and wanted some kind of calibration software to get it as close as i can. don't really want to buy anything though so is there anything around that is a trial of free i can use?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got Aperture and, though I've been a pretty serious photographer for a few years now, I'm starting to get more into doing actual prints and messing with RAW and thus realizing how important color correction and calibrating is. I definitely realize my MBPs screen, my external monitor, and my printer are all out of sync with each other when it comes to this. The only problem is I really have to idea where to begin to fix this.
And before anybody even thinks the word "Search," I don't want to try to piece together random threads on calibration and attempt to figure it out; that's how lost I am.
i am a photoshop retoucher and use an Eizo coloredge CG211 monitor to calibrate it I use Color Navigator 6 software with an x rite i1 display pro.... everything was fine till i updated... then after the update.. my screen looked flat and magenta.... i could not see yellows in my 3/4 tones.. it would run thu the calibration, color navigator would say it was successful, but screen looked off and wrong....i tried everything.... changed cables, video cards,, everything...

I have a MPB 15" bought on the very day of release. I am now using it to edit photos for selling to various publishers. Do I need to get a monitor calibrator like the Spyder3 Pro?
I went to this link to perform 'by eye' checks on my screen:
[URL]
my monitor is uncalibrated, yet it passed the tests with the following scores:
white test: 253 is distinguishable from white
black test: 7 is distinguishable from black
hue test: the two samples are clearly distinguishable
gamma: standing back the middle grey matches the outside gray
These tests were seemingly meant to show how bad an uncalibrated monitor would fare. However it came out very well.
I've been trying to get decent color on my Acer AL2216W display to no avail.
First, I attempted to fiddle with the brightness and contrast levels because I've been having trouble seeing really light grays. I used this as a guide so my whites, grays, and blacks looked good but then my colors were completely off.

Then, (after resetting all my changes) I downloaded a color profile from the Acer support website. Surprisingly, that profile is completely off.
Next, I tried using Mac OS X's Color Calibration utility in System Pref > Displays > Color > Calibrate. I ended up with incorrect colors & grays again.
Am I doing something wrong? Could someone please direct me about how to achieve proper colors and contrast?
Also, if any of you have an Acer AL2216W and you have made a correct color profile, please pass it along!
Needing to calibrate my U2711 and so I need to purchase a good quality calibration system.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.
Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.
I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.
So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.
I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?
I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?
I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.
Model: PowerMac6,1
CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
and
the gfx chip is a GeforceMX4 with 32mb.
The display is a mode 9c27, manufacturer 610, serialnumber 00000, manufacture date: B84D7200.
Finally got my 8800 Mac Pro today. Not sure how it runs on anything yet as I'm still installing software (decided to play it safe and do everything by 'hand' rather than migration - considering I redid everything on my old computer a month ago when I got Leopard...what's one more time? Plus my old machine wasn't an Intel)
So far I'm loving it. Especially with my HP LP3065. Do have a question, though, on calibration. I looked at "Displays" in System Preferences and was surprised that there was a profile for the HP LP3065 that seems to be newly created (the date is today - 2/14 - at 6am). I'm wondering if that's an accurate calibration or if I should do any tweaking...
So I have an Early 2009 Octocore 2.93 and I have a flashed ATI Radeo HD 4870 video card that is supposed to work on a PC but its flashed so it works on a mac. I know its not officially supported but the issue im running into is that the operating system cannot recognize the full resolution the HP LP3065 30 inch display is capable of. The display can run up to 2560x1600 on any other system but not with my ten thousand dollar machine. The windows side can display at the full resolution but Snow Leopard can only run 1280x800 and it makes the OS look like a pile of dog **** on sunday.
Anyone else run into this issue?
Heres the link btw to where this guy shows how to flash the card.

I already have my monitor calibrated to more-or-less match online photo labs that I use through Flickr. However, I just bought a HP C7280 and all my pictures seem to come out very low on the magenta/red side. Rather than having to either recalibrate my monitor and edit all the thousands of pictures I have to warm them up, is there any way that I can just calibrate the printer to print a bit 'redder'?

When calibrating the battery, is it better to do a quick drain with a dvd or cd burning or a slow drain with the brightness all the way down or does it not matter?
View 8 Replies View Relatedyour battery drain in your laptop to 0, and then charge it to full? I am under this assumption. Please let me know if this is wrong.Anywho, so today I decided to let my battery drain to 0, and then normally it would sleep and I'd wake it up after plugging it in.. but this time I had to actually press the power button, and a gray screen appeared with a meter-like thing to illustrate it "waking up" I guess?

I plan to baby this thing, and I am always very conscious of battery life for all of my devices, so do any of you have any advice for how to best handle the first charge/discharge cycle? The machine almost fully charged out of the box. Should I run it down to zero and then fully charge it? Should I fully charge it first and then run it down?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell 2408WFP on the way, as well as a Mac Pro 2.8 with the HD 2600XT, at long last!
The 2408 was recommended by several users of this site, so I wanted to see if you would be willing to share your calibration settings for the monitor?
I've read here about the important task of recalibrating this monitor and soaked up as much knowledge as a I could (as he does get into his settings a little bit).
Since it seems some of you would have a very similar system to me , I was hoping you could help take a little of the pain out of calibrating it (without an external device) and share all relevant settings with me (monitor settings, color profile, graphics card settings, etc.)
So I just got my macbook pro yesterday 2.8ghz. quick question. I just read up on the battery calibration process on apples website. seems straight forward. just one question. after i let the battery drain and let it go into sleep mode, then wait 5+ hours, then charge it to full. can i use the computer when i start charging it to full? or does it have to be off while im charging it to 100%? t

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a HP w2408 flatscreen monitor, and I want to use it for my Macbook Pro as an external display. For some reason, after doing all of the calibration steps and whatnot, the colors on the external display still look too saturated and the text looks too washed out. After your computer goes to sleep, turn it off or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer.

I just got my first Mac yesterday, 13" MacBook Pro. I LOVE IT! I've been trying to find out some info on the battery calibration that I can't find anywhere. I have tried Apple's website, Google and MRoogle before I made a new thread about it
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, so I just did a battery calibration and once the battery got really low, it shut off, but didn't go to sleep like it has done before. It completely turned off; the battery light indicator is not indicating it is asleep. I've never seen it do this, has anyone else had this happen? I have a 2006 MacBook Pro, 2.33 C2D, non-unibody.
View 4 Replies View RelatedToday I left my MBP on without the Power Adapter for calibration. Three hours later, when I arrived home, I found it with a black screen, unresponsive (didn't respond to any key or mouse movement whatsoever). No, the battery wasn't empty of charge, it still had half the charge! This is the second time this happens to me, I can't seem to think of a reason for this to happen.
I believe JDownloader was open, but not doing any downloads, but I'm not sure whether it was open or not, but besides it, nothing else was open.
Well I just scored a 15 inch 2.4 from Bestbuy for 10% off. SOmebody just returned it having never even used it, but they had to discount it because it was opened. I love it love this thing! We did migration from our imac and everything came over. AmazingOne question about calibration. I charged it fully and let the power cord be in it for an extra 2 or so hours. I then used it unplugged until it basically shut off due to no power. Cant I just plug it in and let it charge all the way without letting it sit for 5 hours. Its not sleeping I dont think. It actually shut off suddenly as it was at zero percent. There is no power to it at all that I can tell. Will charging it now without leaving it unplugged for 5 hours ruin the calibration??
