Hardware :: External HD Not Mounting On 10.2.8?

I have a WD Mybook Studio, 500gb which I normally hook up via Firewire or USB to my Intel Macbook, 10.4, no problems. But that macbook's unavailable for the next week or so, so I dragged out my old Powerbook G3 laptop, running 10.2.8. Which can't seem to see the Mybook drive - hooked up via USB 1.0 cable. The drive is formatted HFS+, split into 4 partitions.

The My book drive hooks up fine and functions perfectly connected via USB (1.0) to my even older Mac 8600 tower!

The Mybook drive shows up in the System Profiler, and in Disk Utility. But the partitions are greyed out, and I cannot mount them. I ran disk utility on the mybook, and all drives verified ok.

I ran disk utility on the powerbook's boot HD as well - more than once, with repeated errors.

I know a little bit more than zip about terminal commands - I'm hoping this is something I can fix fairly easily, because all my data's on the mybook, and it would be nice to be able to have easy access to it this week..

OS X Leopard :: External HD Not Mounting?
ive tried everything i could think of to get this drive to mount. I have an OEM hard drive connected via USB using one of those USB/IDE/Sata connectors. I can provide a link to what im talking about if necessary. But it refuses to mount. I've tried searching for it in disk utilities...unplugging and replugging... Nothing seems to be working the way it did before the last combo update for mac. 10.5.7

OS X :: External Drive Not Mounting After Use On PC?
I am using a macbook pro with 10.5.8, and have an external hd (freecom 320gb). I have used it for around a year and it is almost full. The other day, after attaching it to a pc - when i now attach it to the mac, it does not mount, and the warning 'this disk is not recognised' etc comes up. It shows in disk utility, but does not allow me to verify/mount it. I'm guessing the pc has reformatted it or something

What can I do?! I have looked into data rescue software, but I'm not sure - the information cannot just disappear? and I just want the drive to have the same architecture, as all my music etc was organised in particular folders.

OS X :: External HDD Not Mounting On Boot
I have an annoying problem; I have 2 x 1TB Seagate daisy chained and then connected by FW800 to my iMac.

When I do a fresh boot up (in the morning usually), the hard drives don't automatically mount, I have to take the FW plug out and put it back in again.

OS X Leopard :: External FireWire Disk Not Mounting
As terrabyte-sized disks have become available, I have added two of them to my system, first a 500GB external USB disk, then, when that gave me problems, a 1TB external Firewire disk. I added the 1TB because I had lost access (wouldn't mount) to the .5TB disk on one of my two internal boot drives. I keep two boot drives so that I can run Disk Utilities, DiskWarrior, Techtool etc. from one to fix the other if I need to.

I have gone over both internal drives numerous times by now, to clean them up, but only one of the two will mount the .5TB USB external disk. I have used the latest version of Diskwarrior (v.4.2) to revive it, but it won't mount on the desktop of Boot disk #1. It is visible and accesssible in the Disk Utilities window, it shows up fine in System Profiler, and it works fine for internal boot disk #2, but it won't actually mount on #1. I have reformatted the .5TB disk (from boot disk #1), trashed the Finder prefs, and zapped the P-RAM, but it still won't mount.

OS X Leopard :: External Drive Inconsistent Mounting
I have a western digital wd5000d032-000 external drive that I use for storage and video editing. It should connect with either a usb or firewire. It no longer recognizes a connection with the usb. It sometimes connects with the fire wire. After many attempts to make it mount and failing, I did the following: In disk utility the drive showed up.

After about 10 minutes with utility open the format "My Book" appeared under the drive. I began a "verify disk" it ran for about five minutes, then I canceled it, being concerned at how hot my laptop was getting. After canceling the verify, it showed the disk as mounted. So it is currently mounted, but I am afraid of turning off my computer or the external.

OS X :: External HD Not Mounting - Waiting For Root Device
My Macbook Pro 2.4 got force restarted a few times because it was locking up (a friend's faulty external drive I was trying to fix). It was running fine, then when I tried to connect my own external drives they wouldn't mount anymore and I got this error:
/system/..../IOStorageFamily.kext was installed improperly.

I came here and read up on common solutions. I have:
- Ran Disk utility repair and repair permissions
- Followed this article: [URL]
- In verbose and single user mode all I get is the dreaded "waiting for root device" over and over. They all have not worked so far. However in safe mode it actually boots. It seems to me that some drivers were perhaps corrupted when I turned it off abruptly and now it has trouble mounting any drive. What are my options at this point?

Hardware :: External HD Keeps Mounting And Unmounting For No Reason?
I am running a 2007 Imac. Version 10.5.8. 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 4 GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM and am using my Macintosh HD as my Startup Disk.

I have been starting to have some issues with my external hard drive (500gb Western Digital, connected via USB and power supply).

I've never had a problem with it before, but now it seems that when it "mounts", it stays connected and workable for about 30 seconds and then it unmounts and dissapears and I get a "bad device removal" message.

I don't want to lose anything on the HD so for now I just turned it off. I am planning on using DiskWarrior to attempt to repair it.

If, for instance, it is "fried" and cannot stay mounted, is there any way I can transfer the info onto another HD?

Software :: LaCie External HD Suddenly Not Mounting?
I have a new-ish Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro. I've been slowly migrating my Pro files to the Mini for some flexibility/stability. I've had the LaCie HD hooked up to the Pro FOR EVER. It's only ever been on a Mac--never a PC.

The LaCie seems to be fine.

However, on the Mini, it's suddenly mounting (both partitions--don't ask, I made them long ago and can't recall why) with a little lock at the bottom left of the icon. When I Get Info and look at permissions I have to unlock it and all/any users listed are noted with "Custom" preferences.

I can't R/W--I get "The folder "Stuff" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.

Intel Mac :: External HDD Not Mounting On It With 10.7.4
It's a weird problem ,I got a iomega external drive usb3/2 compatible on my iMac white, Intel Core2 Duo 2.12 It's quite nw and always worked well.I have 2 partitions

1. iPhoto Library and music (mac partition, just mac)

2. Time Machine Backup

Since a while I got Time Machine errors but I didn't bother too much, now I discovered that the drive is visible but not mounted.

Investigated a bit with no results mounted on another macbook works just fine and all my stuff is there. The drive has additional cable for power (never used) I connected it without good result.Started in recovery partition and ... all my backup is there and visible and recoverable Seems however that backup stopped when I was on 10.7.3 I think 10.7.4 might be the cause but I don't know how to solve the issue and would avoid to restore via time machine and then get stuck again with 10.7.4

IMac Intel :: External HD Constantly Spinning But Not Mounting
I have a 675GB hard drive in a Galaxy case for my Time Machine backup. I started having some problems so I used disk utility to fix it. It tried 3 times and could not fix it. Next I tried Disk Warrior, and since there is so much data in the directory it always runs out of the 4GB memory running in my iMac. Later I was going to use Copy Carbon Cloner and it would not access it because it was locked. I looked and could not find the lock icon. Then it would not mount, but still showed up in Disk Utility, now it will not show up in disk utility, but still shows up in Disk warrior and Data Rescue 2. It is constantly spinning, like it is reading and writing, but since I cannot mount it any more, I cannot tell what is going on. No wait, the external enclosure is showing up, but no hard drive volume.

At some point either the power got cut or the cable was pulled out incorrectly it got disconnected from the mac. Thus resulting in it not mounting now. I've tried disk repair and shutting down the macbook and restarting...plugging in after everything is started. but to no avail. I am a photographer and about 25% of my photographs I don't have backed up anywhere else. So if I can't get it to work. I need some way to get the information off and reformat. or get it working correctly.

Power Mac G5 :: External Drives Not Mounting - Unknown Device
I can't get any drive to mount using this card. It's the SIIG FW 800 3 port PCI card. I've also got the SIIG FW 400 and I think a Belkin 5 port usb PCI card. I've removed the other cards leaving just the 800. I've moved them all around into different slots. Nothing Changed. I've reset the PRAM and the NVRAM. I've Unplugged system and let it sit for a while. I've had only one drive connected to the 800 card and no other 400, 800 or usb peripherals connected. That didn't help either. Again, this is the second card, so I have to assume that the odds of getting to bad cards in a row is a long shot, right? I have to assume that it's the G5 but the other cards work when put into any of the PCI slots. I know all the drives work. I'm just kind of baffled here.

In the system profiler the drive shows up as "Unknown Device" but it never mounts on the desktop. Also drives connected to the 800 PCI card don't show up in programs like Diskwarrior or Drive Genius. Starting the drive while Disk Utility is open also does nothing. I spoke with SIIG tech support and they said they had no idea but they could test the card if I send it to the. That would at least confirm or deny if the card is faulty. I think the card is ok and the mac is just messing with it somehow? Could resetting the PMU help? I've also cleared my cache and defragged and rebuilt the data directory and all the usual utility stuff. So the system is peppier but still no drives mounting on the 800 pci card?

Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Permanently Mounting External Volume For User Accounts
Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a Mac Mini running 10.6 server. I also have a 1T external USB hard drive. I want to permanently mount this external hard drive at /Users, so all user accounts will live on the external drive. I've been a sysadmin for 20 years, dabbling in Unix the whole time, and this seems to me like it should be a no-brainer. Here's what I've tried: I added this line to /etc/fstab using vifs: UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB /Users hfs rw

I've also tried a couple of variations, using different options (like LABEL and the volume label instead of the UUID, as well as explicit numeric values for fs_freq and fs_passno in the fifth and sixth fields. Regardless, when I run 'mount -av' I get:
GetMasterBlock: Error 2 opening UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB
GetMasterBlock: Error 2 opening UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB
mount_hfs: No such file or directory
mount: exec /System/Library/Filesystems/url.fs/Contents/Resources/mount_url for Network/Servers: No such file or directory

This is nonsense because the drive itself is formatted and partitioned and attached and on and visible in Disk Utility (though not mounted), and the /Users directory exists on the root. In fact, if I execute: mount_hfs /dev/disk2s3 /Users. The volume mounts perfectly! Everything is peachy. Except, as soon as I log off twice, the volume unmounts for no explicable reason. Rebooting the system never automounts the volume like it's supposed to. Anytime automount (or mount, for that matter) fails, this is posted in the console error log: 10/9/09 6:38:59 PMcom.apple.autofsd91automount: Mount for UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB has no path for the directory to mount
And yes, autodiskmount.plist is correct and exists in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.

So my questions are these:
1. Why does the darn think keep unmounting whenever someone logs off the server?
2. Why does mount -a fail, while mount_hfs works fine
3. What the heck am I supposed to do to get this thing to mount and stay mounted at /Users?
