MacBook Pro :: Which PRAM Battery Suitable For G4 PB (A1106)
Oct 19, 2009I think my PRAM battery is dead (date resets to January 1st 1970 when started up with main battery removed) but I can't find a replacement PRAM anywhere (I'm in the UK). According to iFixit the part number is 820-1686-A - is this the only PRAM module that will work in my machine? (I've seen lots of other similar looking parts on eBay, but with different part numbers). Also, is it not possible to actually just replace the battery, not the whole circuitboard? It looks like a regular watch battery I could pick up for $5 from the pic.

Dec 10, 2014I have a macbook pro that is simply dead. I have tried an SMC reset, a PRAM reset, and I bought a new battery. I see the green lights on the back of my battery and the power cord is an apple cord that appears to be just fine. I have also tried to power on the computer with the power cord plugged in but the battery out.
Worth noting that I do not hear any fans, any clicks, or *any* indication that the computer is trying to power up. The only signs of electricity are the green lights on the battery and the small charging light one sees on the cord when plugged in to the computer.

Jun 22, 2007My Powerbook will not power on. I have followed some instructions on disconnecting the PRAM battery and that did not work, any ideas? I just stopped coming on without any explination.

Jul 28, 2008 one of my Al Powerbooks decided to kernel panic twice in the past two days and both times fail to start up afterwards. The symptoms would be that when I pushed the power button, I wouldn't hear the Apple startup sound and it would just sit there.
Well, after a few tries and some sadness, I decided to remove the PRAM battery card and voila, computer boots up perfectly! This has actually happened twice (removed PRAM card, booted up, then put PRAM card back in, then eventually exact same situation occurred again), does anyone know if a PRAM battery card can possibly wreak suck havok on a G4 running Leopard.
MacBook Pro :: PRAM Battery Dying On 38th Week 2009?
Apr 4, 2012Now normally I wouldn't expect it in an under 4 year old machine, but the normal battery is working as expected. However, when I'm not plugged into power, my WiFi doesn't always reconnect, and when it does, the internet doesn't seem to connect either 90% of the time. When I'm plugged into power, no problem. 3 other machines on the same wireless network have no issues with it, though my cable company says they are detecting intermittent signal loss, which I can't reproduce on any other machine. The other reason I believe it is the PRAM battery and not the main battery, is during one reboot, the date reset itself to year 2000. Once I managed to reconnect the internet, I was able to set the date & time to the time server.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Blue Screen Assistance - Change The PRAM And PMU?
Dec 20, 2009I was on the internet with my iBook G4 the system froze for over 10 minutes so i did a hard shutdown of the system (held the power button) When I attempted to turn the computer back on, the start up chime played then showed the grey apple screen, attempted to start up then went to a blue screen and now stays that way. I have attempted to change the PRAM and PMU to no avail, I also restarted in safe mode but all i got there was a different blue screen with no desktop icons.

IMac :: LCD Backlight Bleed / Reset The PRAM Which Figured Wouldn't Work?
Sep 13, 2009So I contacted Apple this morning regarding the LCD Backlight Bleed on my iMac (24", early 2008, 2.8 ghz) They made me reset the PRAM, which I figured wouldn't work, and the issue is still there.
They say it'll have to go in for servicing, and I live nowhere near an Apple Store, so they gave me the location of the nearest London Drugs. Am I going to get the same quality of service as I would from an Apple Store? And what is the exact process that they use, do they just replace it with a new LCD?Also, he said that it will be covered under Applecare unless it is ruled as accidental damage, he said that much of the time, the issue is caused by pressure on the back of the case, and that if that was the case, it wouldn't be covered.I can't really see how this would cause it, and I haven't ever put any pressure or anything on the back, but i did buy the iMac used, what are the chances of this being ruled accidental damage?I have the bleed in all four corners of the screen, if that makes any difference.
IMac :: Using Gradient With IMac ISight Intel 2006?
May 8, 2009Recently my iMac had been experiencing problems, I took apart and checked everything and put back together. Problems were gone but the screen suddenly started gradienting from brighter on the top to darker on the bottom. Brightness overall is also lower now.
My question is what can be creating this? The black tape that was around was ripped, I've heard it's creating static isolation, can that be it? Also I possibly pulled power cord too hard, can it be possible that display is not getting enough power?

May 20, 2009When i open photobooth, all i get is the camera logo with a line going thru it... When i open ichat, it says no camera is attached... There is no green light, in system profiler under USB TREE, the isight is not even recognized....

Apr 19, 2010Have a 17" G5 iMac iSight (OS 10.5.8) that works normally for several hours and then the CPU temperature suddenly spikes and the computer shuts itself down. When I check the Temperature Monitor (application) history graph, it shows normal temperatures and then a spike. There are 3 fans and I don't know which is failing or whether there's something in the temperature sensing that's gone haywire. My only solution is to do a forced restart. By this time, things have cooled and it will work for several hours.

Nov 4, 2009I purchased the last generation iMac G5 when it came out a few years ago and I recently tried to sell it. I sent the item to the buyer and he said it would not start. The Apple logo or for that matter anything would not come up. He brought it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they said it was an issue that would most likely cost over $500 in repairs. I just got the computer back in the mail and all that happens when the power button is pressed is the white light on the front lower right hand corner comes on for a second, then the machine shuts down. You can also hear the machine begin to start for about two seconds, then it shuts down. Any ideas as to the problem and whether it is fixable without expensive repair costs?

Dec 30, 2009I read a few posts about dead pixels on the iSight, so I thought I'd post this picture to see what other people think. This is a screenshot straight from Photobooth, showing the image from my iSight when the black cleaning cloth is held up to it. No, those marks are not dirt (on the outside anyway). Other that this, my iMac is fine with the exception of a single dead pixel (I thought this was a thing of the past, but oh well) and I'm not 100% about whether or not I have the yellow screen issue, so I'll ignore it for now.

My monitor has turned off and will not come back on. Clicking noises and a slow operating speed occurred a few days ago. I have tried this SMU Reset Process below:

1. Turn off the computer by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu, or by holding the power button until the computer turns off.
2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
3. Wait 10 seconds.
4. Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
5. Let go of the power button.
6. Press the power button once more to start up your iMac.
Upon completing step 6, the computer turns on only to feature the fans spinning at maximum speed and still no monitor display.
Is this a Logic Board issue? The iMac was purchased for $1700 in 2006. Would repair costs be so high that just buying a new iMac would be the better way to go?
PowerPC :: IMac G5 (iSight) Screen - Not Working
Dec 6, 2009My mother's iMac G5 began this just two days ago. It turns on fine, but once is reaches the apple logo with the spinning wheel, the screen begins to exhibit what is shown in the pictures below. It first started when I opened an .AVI I received in an email from my uncle. When the file opened, the whole screen(within about 2 seconds) had discoloration and macro blocking spread from the center of the screen outward. After this I rebooted, tried again, and when I opened the file, it did the same thing. Now I can not even reach the log in screen. And after the screen has been in this state for a while, it may go blank and the fans run at full blast. I've opened the same file on a PowerMac G5 and a MacBook Pro with no problems.

Jul 8, 2010I am running leopard on an iMac 24" and am having trouble getting my iSight camera to record audio on 2 channels. I have changed my audio input to line in (inbuilt input) in order to record using a better microphone than the inbuilt one in my iMac, and am running a Shure microphone into the input in the back of my iMac via XLR to 1/4" stereo jack cable and then through a 1/4" to 1/8" stereo jack adapter. However when recording video in Photo Booth, iMovie etc. the audio only plays back out of the left speaker. It is not a problem with the output because all of my other sounds (music from itunes for example) play fine out of both left and right speakers. I believe I have run everything into the computer just fine and I can get 2 channels when recording like this in Garageband and Logic.
