Applications :: Itunes Can't Find Songs
Oct 11, 2009I have spent a whole week importing songs from my external hdd to Itunes (ordering, adding album art, deleting double songs etc.) Almost 230 GB on music! Since I have a 500 GB hdd, I decided to deselect 'copy files to Itunes media folder' under preferences. I have a backup on my external hdd and I didn't know for sure if I would get the songs double (one in Itunes library and one in Itunes music folder, so taking up more space. I assumed that I could do this, since I read in 'Itunes help' that I could also deselect this option if you have your files stored on an external hdd.
While I was doing that my external hdd was connected to my laptop all the time. Today I finally finish the job, deconnected the hdd and found out that Itunes can't find any of my songs back! Only when I connect the external hdd to my laptop I can play the music. Is there a way to solve this problem or do I need to do it all over again while making a copy from my files to Itunes media folder? Since Itunes couldn't find any of my songs, I assume that for examply a 100 mb album will take up 100 mb on my hdd on my laptop and not 200MB?
Then there's a second problem: I deleted one of the albums in Itunes and imported the album again, but this time I selected the checkbox 'copy to itunes mediafolder when adding to library'. But now my songs are showing up double! One has the extension mp3 and the other one 1.mp3 When I go to Itunes mediafolder they show up there twice, so they don't show up in two separate folders. If I need to import all the songs again and delete the doubles manually it will take me ages

Sep 4, 2014At the top of itunes there is an artists tab that apparently only shows album artists. Is there any way to get it to show the artist, not the album artist?

Applications :: ITunes Playlists For Artist Folders?
Mar 23, 2010I have folders for a few hundred bands inside my "iTunes Music folder" yet they don't show up under playlists to the left.
I can drag each artist folder (one by one only) to the playlist area and it'll make a play list, but if I drag them all at once, it just puts them in the general Music area under LIBRARY.
Is there a way to automatically create playlists for each artist folder in the main "iTunes Music" folder?
Applications :: ITunes 10 Removing Album By Artist Column?
Sep 3, 2010I just downloaded the new itunes 10, and the first thing I noticed was the "album by artist" column under the music library. I don't like it at all. I want to remove it, but I can't! I'm not talking about the "album artist" column. This is totally new with the iTunes 10. When I try to remove it by, it only gives me the option of sort and artwork.

Feb 27, 2010After some Google trawling, I can't seem to find any answers to this question, so here goes nothing:
The 'Artist' bar on the left of the iTunes 9 interface will jump back up to the top of its scrollbar every time you click on an artist in it, and often when I select an artist that requires any scrolling to get to it it immediately jumps to the top of the list and thinks I clicked on one of those artists.
This has basically crippled my music browsing, or at least made it insanely annoying, so a fix would be nice.
I've tried trashing all the preferences and rebooting, to no avail.

Mar 31, 2010I prefer seeing my music list sorted by artist's last name. I have gone through and changed all of the Sort Artist fields to lastname, firstname. The new iTunes update has broken this view. When using the Artists column view, Al Green and Adam Sandler are now listed in the goddamn A's.

Aug 21, 2014iTunes keeps telling me it can't find around 150 songs and I have to manually point it to each folder - it offers to use location to find other missing tracks but that only works for songs in the same album folder, not other artists/albums. Apr 28, 2009I have song compilation albums in itunes. I prefer to seach by Artist, not album. Compilation albums often assign a different artist for each song. I don't like this, as I end up with thousands of artists, each with only one song! Here's an example:
I copy "Classical Chillout" compilation album to itunes. 30 songs show up, each with their own (new) artist name, song name, and all within the album "Classical Chillout.
Instead of having:

ALBUM Classical Chillout
I want to batch rename all songs so that the Album name becomes the Artist and each "Artist" name is inserted into the "Song" name

Applications :: ITunes Cannot Find Music Anymore (Mass Find Option)
Jan 30, 2009Yesterday, I had to re-format my external hard drive so that it could be "recordable" within Pro Tools, which wasn't a major issue, I just had to move everything from my Lacie drive to another drive, do the format, and then throw it all back on. It took a little while but this also included moving my nearly 60gb itunes library. Now that it is on the newly formatted hard drive, itunes doesn't seem to be able to find the majority of the songs any more. I've tried changing the music folder and a few other things, and there is no way I'm going through and doing the "cant find music - click here to find it" palava. Is anyone aware of a way that you can "mass find" all of the music in any way other than starting the library again and adding all the music (I don't really want to lose all of my play counts and ratings if possible!)

Aug 26, 2010How come this feature has never been released? How many times have you been listening to music with friends through a stereo, or simply enjoying a good shuffle list, and all of a sudden you're struck with an urging to hear a different song. Problem is, you don't want to leave the one you're on, you only want to listen to it next. And even after you finish listening to it, you want to be able to resume your previous shuffle list. Seems common enough right?
Then why has Apple never released this feature? I understand the ability to make customizable playlists, but we're not talking about lots of songs. Just one single song. And it could be designed to only allow one song to be qued. Not too challenging I would think.
And it would be so easy to implement. Add a button next to the genius button on the bottom of iTunes with a big Q on it. Highlight the song you want, press that button, and BAM. Done. On an iPod touch/iPhone, just swipe over the song you want to que up (like in email), and a red button will pop up saying "que" and done. And on an iPod with a click wheel, maybe hold down the center button and the fast-foward button when you're highlighted over the song you want to que and done.

Oct 5, 2008This has happened to me many times now. Certain .mp3 songs will not open in iTunes at all. I will double-click on them and iTunes will pop up, but the song will not appear in the Library. I have also tried dragging it into the library manually, but it still doesn't show up.
I have read about this problem before, so it is not an isolated issue, however no one seems to have an answer that actually works. Some suggested changing the file to .mp4, but this doesn't work either.

ITunes :: Automatic Changing Of The Album Artist?
Oct 30, 2010Every once in a while (I think it's when I play the song or something) iTunes will change the Ablum Artists of some songs to artists I know aren't right. For instance, it keeps placing Photograph by Weezer in my Nickelback folder, and even thought the song's Artist is still under Weezer, the album artists keeps automatically changing to Nickelback, and apparently thats what iTunes organizes folders by.
It also has keeps changing some song by From Autumn To Ashes to some band named Bagman.
Yes, I do have "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" checked because I want it to keep it organized, I just don't want it to change my file information.
ITunes :: Sorting Album By Artist / Year
May 6, 2012I've been having problems sorting _some_ albums. I'll give you a specific example: I rip Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Concert in Central Park' which has 19 tracks. I want them to play in continuous mode, and in order. I show track number in the columns, make sure all the tracks are of the same album and artist and I don't specify and sort options. Now I click on the column header 'Album by Artist/Year' and I see that track 16 is first followed by 18, 19 then 1,2,3, etc.
I'm not sure why 16,18 and 19 are out of order, but they are and I don't know what other field it is using to apply this sort order since I've turned off the sort fields. I should say that I think the sort fields are turned off since I selected all tracks, hit command-I and made sure that the artist and album are the same, then went over to the sorting tab and selected each checkbox and made sure that the field was blank. Clicked on OK, then went into each track one at a time and verified that the general info and sort info were as I specified.
If I change the sort column to be just 'Album' then it sorts correctly - I think that the year is messed up, so I add the year column to the display and see that it is 1982. I click on the year and the sort is just fine. I set it back to 'Album by Artist/Year' and the same bizzare sort shows up. The same mis-sort shows with 'Album by Artist' so I do a check on the artist name (even looking for leading or trailing spaces - nothing). I could probably delete the album and re-rip it, but I would rather find out why the sort is messed up so I can correct this problem.

May 23, 2012I have lots of lossless music, always had it nicely organized. But after looking at my classical music, I dont find my albums always after the composer as I name as the artist as well, so its kind of same organized as pop/rock.. I want the composer to be in focus. If I want to listen to 39 symphony, mozart, I wont search for the conductor, but Mozart.. With classical music, theres lots of artists, conductor, orchestra and I put it under "album artist", but now I found out that my itunes folders are saved under "albumartist" and not "artist". But shouldnt albumartist be the artists playing on the records, and artist be for lets say the band name?? Have I done it all wrong? Shouldnt I save The Cure as artist, and maybe under "albumartist" I can write Robert Smith, Tolhurst and rest of the bandmembers.. But as I found out now, then the folder will be named "Robert Smith, Tolhurst...."
Should I start name all my albums the opposite way, or is there a way to make folders save from artist and not albumartist?

Most of my songs are either 192 or 256 kbps MP3 format with some even at 320kbps..While syncing we get an option to convert selection to 128kbps AAC.I never tried that option because I was scared as this might effect my original file.Does it convert the actual file and then syncs it to ur ipod or does it retains the original file and sends converted file directly to ipod without effecting my original file...

When I got my iMac, I wanted to port everything my Dell, to my iMac. This was great and all, and mostly worked, though I ended up duplicating about 400 songs, about 4 times each. Is there some type of feature or something I can do with automator that would get rid of my duplicate songs?

Jan 4, 2009iTunes keeps deleting my songs! I had this problem with iTunes 7, and the problem went away with the update to 8.0.1. But with the 8.0.2, the problem came back. It deleted one album so far, and I have no way to retrieve this file. My iTunes folder is in my external HD, and I don't back that up regularly.
