ITunes For Mac :: Find Recent IPad Backup In Time Machine?

Jun 1, 2014

I had to reset my iPad due to the home button issue (this by the way seems to be a hardware issue since it did not dissapear after the reset :-( )

Unfortunately iTunes created a new back-up of my iPad at the end of this reset procedure (i.e. it is a back-up of an empty ipad).

Now I would like to re-install and configure my iPad based on a back-up couple weeks ago.

If I open Time Machine, what do I need to do find and use this particular older iPad-back-up for reinstalling my ipad?

OS X :: Update A Super Clone From Most Recent Time Machine Backup?

Oct 23, 2009

Is there a way to update a super duper clone that I have on a portable external from my Time machine backups? It would simplify my backup protocol a lot, I travel with a live clone in case my system crashes.

When I'm at home I backup tirelessly to a time machine drive connected to my server. I would love to be able to just dock my portable with my server and be able to update my clone easily.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Sparsebundle Only Keeps Most Recent Backup?

May 25, 2012

I have a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with three internal hard drives. I'm using one of these hard drives for backup (not the best set up, as I would prefer something external, but hey, better than nothing). So I created a sparsebundle on one of my 1 TB drives with a max size of 700 GB, following the directions here: [URL]..(except that mine is not a network drive). But now I am faced with two problems: (1) Time Machine does not back up unless I manually tell it to. (2) Time Machine only keeps the most recent backup. It no longer keeps incremental backups, now that I'm using a sparsebundle. Prior to using a sparsebundle, neither of these problems occurred. Is this normal? Has anybody else had this issue, and how do I resolve it?

Applications :: Time Machine Cannot Find Backup Volume?

Feb 20, 2009

I just got my Mac back from a repair at the Apple Store. I was very excited to have everything back. However, Time Machine cannot back up! The error given is that the backup volume "cannot be found."

I've tried rebooting, remounting the drive and doing checks on it. Everything checks out. I can even write and read to and from the backup volume just fine via Finder. The only issue is that Time Machine can't. What's the problem? How do I fix it?

Attached is a screenshot of my Finder window next to the Time Machine Sys Prefs window.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Cannot Find Specific Backup

Apr 13, 2012

I need to do a complete restore of my MacBook from a previous time. Now, I back up my wife's MacBook and mine to the same external hard drive using Time Machine on a regular basis and if I open TM on my MacBook I can see all my backups in the 'time travel' view. As well, if I do a Finder search in my external hard drive, all the backup files are there, both my wife's and mine in two separate folders.

The problem comes when I try to restore, using my Install DVD. At the point that it asks me where the backup is stored, I click on my external hard drive and it shows my wife's and my backups as options. All my wife's backups appear when I select hers. But only my original backup appears when I select mine. It doesn't recognise all my subsequent backups. I've tried deleting my wife's backup folder but still only see my original backup.

ITunes For Mac :: Recent Video Content On IPad / IPhone Reloading During Sync

Jun 20, 2014

Recently purchased video content is reloading to my devices even though the same content is already on the device.

Can successfully remove the video, and that stops the reload during subsequent syncs.  If the content is put back, the reloading starts again in subsequent syncs.

Not the worst problem, but a big time and data consumer, and very annoying. I have tried the following without success of stopping this behavior;

1.)  Deleted the video in question from my library and downloaded it again from Apple.
2.)  Downloaded/Reinstalled iTunes from Apple on my laptop.
3.)  Device soft reset.
4.)  Device factory reset and restored.

My current system is;  OSX 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2.2 running on MacBook Pro, while OS Version 7.1.1 resides on my iPhone 5S and iPad2.

OS X :: ITunes 10 Deleted Library - Did Time Machine Backup Prior To ITunes 10?

Sep 7, 2010

I just updated my iTunes but it appears it deleted my library. This sucks because I have spent HOURS upon HOURS sorting it, renaming crooked song titles, finding covers and all that stuff. I used time machine to back up my computer like 5 days ago, but I can't figure out how to use it. I wish I could just select that given day (when I made my last backup) and make it turn everything back to what it was back then. How do I do this exactly? I don't care at all if I have to go back to the old iTunes (obviously they will fix this eventually!) - I just want it to look like it did a few days ago.

OS X :: Time Machine Not Backing Up Recent Files

Sep 18, 2009

I received my new 24" iMac a few days ago, and have spent the last few days setting it up and getting acquainted with the new features.

I purchased a MyBook Studio 1TB drive to use with Time Machine, as it sounded like a good way to keep everything backed up.

Everything seemed to be working well, until I started flicking through some of my folders in TM. I noticed that the files I had added an hour or so earlier hadn't backed up. I had just recently set an exclusion on a single folder, so decided to try removing it. TM then backed a few GB of files up.

I decided to add some test files to a folder, and run TM again. Again, it didn't back the new files up.

Applications :: Time Machine Taking Long Time To Backup - Changing Backup Time?

Dec 11, 2009

I have looked into this a lot already. It is to much that Time Machine backs up every single hour! It would be nice to set it to something like 3 or 5 hours. I have tried a 3rd party app to do this, but... If my computer was off or asleep when it was supposed to back up, it would get an error. It would not just do the backup when i turned it on or when it came out of sleep like stock Time Machine does. I have also seen a way to change the time incraments in the Terminal.(I am very good with it, not a noob) I have tried this and it screws up time machine completely. Maybe it does not work with the newest OS X. By the way... I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, got it 2 months ago.

Does anyone know a solid 3rd party app, that will work seamlessly. Or has anyone changed the time in Terminal and are currently using something different than 1 hour. There is a lot of examples online, but I would like the codeing that you literally used.

Hardware :: Time Machine And ITunes Library Backup

Jul 26, 2010

So I finally got a TB hard drive and am using Time Machine to backup my MacBook Pro which has about 4 GB of free space on it. Most of my hard drive is taken up with music files. I want to know how I can move my library to my external drive (maybe just doing time machine will do this?) but keep some file on my computer so I can play them without the external drive. What's the best route? I know that consolidating my library to another drive will do half of what I want, but what about keeping some songs on my computer- like 50 GB worth (but I will also want these songs on the external drive so that they are backed up!)

MacBook Pro :: Find The Backup Files From Ipad On Mac?

Jun 14, 2012

so i just recently updated my ipad to the newest version a while ago and it turns out to be a bad idea since i've lost all my files on my ipad ! so i connected it to my mac (which i don't sync it with), update it, and then at the end everything's gone and i had photos and files there that i never saved elsewhere.

now i know it's supposed to be in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ but all i see in there are files of which i can make no sense of (the filenames are just random letters and numbers and they don't have any file extensions; they just open up on TextEdit)

so if it's not there, should i just resign myself to my fate ? this is extremely disappointing as i've had extremely important photos in my ipad

Applications :: ITunes Empty After Restoring From Time Machine Backup?

Sep 19, 2010

When I was setting up the MBP, I opted to restore from a Time Machine backup and expected everything to go off without a hitch.

When I opened iTunes though, everything was blank -- no songs or videos were listed at all. My playlists were still there though but also blank.

When I checked my Music folder in Finder, everything was still there so I tried manually adding one mp3 to see if it would show up on iTunes. iTunes just played the mp3 but it still wouldn't show up in the Music list.

OS X :: Time Machine Didn't Backup ITunes And IPhotos Libraries

Jan 18, 2010

First I was lucky that I didn't trust this "time machine", I could've just formatted the drive after I did the time machine back up and end up wiping my entire itunes library, Here is what happend, I only had two instances of time machine back up, both to the same external HD which has more than plenty of space. The first TM backup was immediately after a fresh install of snow leopard, online updates, and some important apps. iTunes and iPhotos library was empty at that moment. I thought I'd just restore this backup when I need a fresh install later. Then today I decided to wipe out everything on my MBP and have a fresh install, so I did the second TM backup in an expectation that it would back up everything new since the last backup, including my itunes and iphotos library. It turned out that TM (treacherously) didn't do that and tell me backup was done (AKA the infamous FALSE TRUE, the worst scenario of logics). When I checked the backup directory on the external HD, and the itunes directory reported a miserable size of 123kb, which was supposed to be around 20gb. same goes for the iPhotos library, there was no backup. Abandoning this fashion machine, I manually copied the libraries, taking some time but at least I know what I'm doing. Anyway, back to top, Is is a known issue or is TM designed in this way?

Software :: Time Machine Unable To Perform Backup / Backup Is Too Large For Backup Volume

Oct 26, 2008

I am getting the following error from Time Machine when doing my first backup. The startup disk being backed up, and the TM disk are both the same size.

Macintosh HD: 465.44 (total); 393.99 (free); 71.45 (free)
Time Machine: 465.44 (total); 465.29 (free)

The Time Machine error is: Quote:

"This backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 472.7 GB but only 465.3 GB are available." why would this be? Other disks are excluded from the backup, and Time Machine is telling me that it needs more space than it actually needs. What should I do?

Software :: Unable To Backup Via Time Machine / Backup Disk Image Could Not Be Created

May 1, 2008

I was a PC user who recently moved to mac. I have a macbook (intel 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD). When I was using PC, I backed up all my data to a network storage device (Buffalo LinkStation 250 GB connected to a 802.11g netgear router which is supplied by Sky) using a program called SmartSync Pro, which worked very well. Although I can connect to and mount the Share folder on this drive when the macbook is connected to the network, Time Machine will not back up to it. It wouldnt even recognise the disk on the network.

So I went onto the trusty internet, and found that you can get time machine to recognise the Share folder. (This was obtained from: http://blog.imulus.com/george/software/using-leopard-time-machine-to-backup-of-a-network/)See my comment on their page at the bottom, number 66.

It recommended entering the following in to the Terminal: defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1

Before attempting backup I have to go into "Network" and select the Share folder by double clicking on it. This seems to mount the volume. After this, it can be seen in Time Machine as a potential backup destination.

However, this method does not work for me. Time Machine "prepares" for a while, then gives the following message: Time Machine error. The backup disk image could not be created.

More internet searching took me to macosxhints which suggests creating something called a sparsebundle image on my local system. (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080420211034137) Have not tried this yet as I thought it would be prudent to seek some help first.

Apple have deliberately disabled the ability for Time Machine to back up to network attached storage, (except of course to their proprietory Time Capsule):

Is this because time machine requires a network faster than 802.11g?

Is this because a time machine backup to a network attached storage device is unreliable and the data is corrupted?

I dont want to shell out more cash for a time capsule. I would prefer not to have to hardwire to an external drive (which I will also have to go out and buy). Any thoughts?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Time Machine Backup Freezes On Initial Backup Attempt?

Mar 20, 2012

I just purchased a Seagate 3 TB USB 2.0/3.0 external drive to use as my time machine backup drive.  I have a MacBook Pro that was purchased about 3-4 years ago.  The MacBook Pro has a 120 GB hard drive and is currently running MAC OSx 10.6.8.  I also have another WD 1 TB FireWire external drive that I use to store all of my media files.

After I followed the instructions for installing the new Seagate drive for use with the MAC OSx, I initiated a time machine backup.  It very quickly determined that it needed to back up almost 900,000 files totaling just about 400 GB.  It started the backup process at a rate of about 1 GB per minute.  In a little less than an hour it reach 53 GB and remained there for an additional two hours before I decided to stop the backup.

Once I got the backup stopped, I deleted the backup and decided to look at my energy saving settings.  I noticed that the "Put drives to sleep whenever possible" check box was checked, so I unchecked that option and restarted the MAC.  I then initiated the time machine backup again.  Like the first time it quickly determined that it needed to backup the same amount of data as before and started the backup process at a rate of about 1 GB per minute.  Before going to bed at around 11 PM last night it was at about 60 GB so I thought I was out of the woods (having gotten further than the 53 GB earlier).  When I woke up this morning at 5:30 AM it was sitting at 69 GB.

I am really frustrated at this point and don't know why the time machine back up would be failing on a brand new hard drive. PS - I was previously using a Seagate 1.5 TB USB drive as my time machine backup and never had any issues with it.  I decided to use the 1.5 TB drive for a different purpose, which is why I have the new 3 TB drive to use as a backup.  And I still have the full backup on the 1.5 TB drive just in case anything were to go awry.

MacBook Air :: Time Machine Backup Takes Up To 6 Hours To Do A Backup Of About 30GB?

Jan 9, 2010

Just wanted to check if he problem was unique to my MBA (Rev B, HDD) or you notice it too ;

My Time Machine backup takes up to 6 hours to do a backup of about 30GB. And each backup size is 31.5GB everytime !!

I have the following Config - 80 GB for OSX (53GB Free) and 40 GB (10GB Free) for Win 7 on Bootcamp. Sometimes I wonder if TM making a backup of Win 7 also everytime. (Does it mean - In a way its good, that means I should be able to restore the entire hard disk from TM including Applications, Win 7 , bootcamp and all the programmes installed in Win 7 in case I have a problem ?)

But the speed should still be fast... 6 hours to do a 32GB backup is torturous specially because then I have to leave the machine alone and cannot use it.
