I Just did a complete new install of Snow Leopard on my computer. I did the new install because the computer stopped booting up. After I did the new install, the computer booted up and runs different applications perfectly. However, the harddrive Icon stop appearing on the desktop. Will someone tell me how to get the harddrive icon to appear on the desktop again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new Mac Mini with a 24 inch Philips display. When I connected the display and started up the computer, it booted up and showed the grey apple screen, but it never made it past that. On the screen it reads "cannot display this video mode, change computer display input to 1920x1080@60Hz." As you might have realized, I can't get onto the computer to do so because I cannot see what I am doing. This is extremely frustrating because I had my Mini hooked into my friend's tv and it worked perfectly right away and now I can't even get it to connect. Does anybody know any hotkeys/solutions to this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen using either Mail (5.2, v. 1257) or Aperture (3.2.3, Build 6010000.1) I notice that the fan seems to run all the time when either of these two applications are open. I just imported my entire iPhoto library (20,000 photos, about 80 GB hard drive storage in iPhoto) into Aperture. I was lead to believe that Aperture has better management features for larger libraries.
How do I find out why the fan is running and what can I do to monitor this situation? Is it likely to cause damage to any of the MBP's internal components?

I find that Camino runs very well on my iBook G4 1.2 Ghz machine. It leads me to think that because Camino is not so memory intensive and full of add-ons and so on (like Firefox), that it will work well on other low-end machines...
What do others think? Any other browsers that you find optimises performance? (I am even thinking of putting Camino on my MacBook, as Safari seems to slow down a lot at times...).

The iMac is screaming fast except for the Firefox app, the longer I run it the slower my internet is. I have tried disabling the plug-ins as well going to Preferences=>Privacy and setting "Remember my browsing history for at least" to 5 days.
This hasn't really helped. I have confirmed that the DSL is running properly, even had a AT&T tech out to confirm it.
I was talking on skype. I attempted to open microsoft messenger for mac. It froze up the video on skype, but I could still hear the person I was talking to. Microsoft messenger failed to open, so I clicked okay on the error box.
A few minutes later skype froze up and I could no longer hear or see the person I was talking to. My mac was unresponsive and I could not get anything to close so I held the power button and shut it down. I waited for a few minutes and tried to re-boot. It took a few minutes and was still trying to boot, so I went and took a shower. I came back and it was fully booted, yet running very slow. Every application I tried to open would not open fully, I had to force quit anything I tried to open. Even "Finder" wasn't responding and had to be re-launched. As it stands now, I can't stand to try to even use my Mac because it runs so slow, and will not open any applications.

Does anyone know why 1080p video runs slow on my late 2008 Macbook Pro (lowest end + 4 gig of RAM), yet 720p runs just fine? I'm using VLC for both...I mean, 720p is still great quality, but I would like 1080p for certain things...

My intenet connexion is good. but safari says that he cant find the servor for the website and it does it with any kind ob websit or it just doesnt open the page, it leaves it blank . i tried to clean it, no results and i checked for virus, no results either.

I need to find a better download management application than Speed Download. Whenever I run speed, and download more than one file at a time, my memory usage skyrockets and maxes out. System runs VERY sluggish, and i basically can't use my MBP until downloads are done.
Just doing my normal multitasking on my 17" it runs fast while with the magsafe plugged in but on battery its pretty slow. But then I am transferring a 100gb+ file while using 6 spaces with many apps running.

I told my old computer (1GHz TiBook G4 with Tiger) to export my iTunes library, which it did, as a .xml file. Then, I opened that file on my new iMac, and only about 1/5 of the songs were found, apparently. This doesn't make sense to me, as the iMac is connected to the HD when I import the old library. If it makes a difference, the TiBook was NOT connected to the HD when I exported the library. I have the two computers networked together via Ethernet right now, though.

View 22 Replies View RelatedI made a DVD in iMovieHD, which I burned to DVD using Toast Titanium. The disk played and I watched it in different players. I made a copy for my son and he was able to view it on his PC. Now, neither disc is readable. I currently use iMovie 6. The computer does not recognize the disc at all and ejects it. The DVD was of our 2007 vacation to Yellowstone and I still have the still images and DV tape, but I really don't want to remake the video. How can it be possible that a DVD that once worked perfectly, is no longer recognized?

View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter loads of headwork I may have a perfect running Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro. I was running XP but decided for a change, installed 7 but had the issues with sound, keyboard, bluetooth etc etc tried a few things but no joy. So went to Vista instead, things worked fine but didn't partition enough space so another reinstall was needed, then came the brainwave if everything is running smoothly in Vista surely if I upgrade to 7 it should still work, ok I was a little wrong 90% of it did.
I even had sound, bluetooth issue was resolved just needed to uncheck 'allow computer to control sleep thing' just needed to sort out the keyboard backlight, eject and fn keys. So in my wisdom I reinstalled bootcamp 2.1 update, ignore the messages that come up it will install...reboot and voila all Working! I will be rigorously testing this over the next week so will post back any issues, hopefully there wont be any. By the way I am using the x86 version as my MBP doesn't support 64bit. So in short:
Partition > Vista (make sure fully updated) > Upgrade to Windows 7 > reinstall Boot Camp >
Anyone ever had the screen fixed in a macbook/ macbook pro ?I jumped out of bed at he weekend and stood on my late 2008 model macbook pro. tht I had been surfing in bed the night beforehe result is a fine crack on the top of the screen the machine still works perfectly. I have it inured but there is a ?250 excess, and it is still under warranty, but I am sure that apple won't fix it for free with me standing on it with my elephant feet!

Problem I'm finding is what if I get a new computer and sell the old computer that has iTunes with the back ups of my device?
If I were to plug my iPhone to the new computer and iTunes pop up, would it take everything from the iPhone and put it on iTunes AND THEN do a backup?
Some applications simply refuse to install, citing the reason that the application "can't be installed on this computer" and nothing else. The applications that are giving me this error message in particular includes Alfred and Solitaire Greatest Hits. Other applications work just fine, such as Twitter for Mac and TextWrangler. Are Alfred and Solitaire compiled for processors that are newer than my lowly Core Duo, or what?
