Applications :: ITunes (via AirTunes) - Crackling Since 10.5.3

Jun 5, 2008

I guess for the past few weeks, I wanna say since 10.5.3, the music I play through Airtunes has sounded crumby. Some distortion and crackling. I got a bit worried and thought it was maybe a HW issue, but tests and wavelengths turned out ok, and games/tv/movies had no issues. So I turned on Airfoil, to force all system sound through the AP Express and thus my sound system, and played songs back and forth, from iTunes and Airtines, to Quick Look/Quicktime and Airfoil. Lo and behold, Airtunes sounds nasty, Airfoil sounds perfectly fine.

Applications :: ITunes Not Find Airtunes When Connected Via Cable

May 23, 2010

I have an Apple TV with Airtunes enabled. But apparently, it's not possible to connect to it from PC's who are connected to LAN with cable instead of WiFi? Does anyone know why? More details, I have 3 PC's:

PC 1: , Windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 9.1.1.12 (latest)
Stationary, connected to LAN using cable in a Gigabit switch

PC 2: 100% fresh install of Windows 7 32-bit and iTunes 9.1.1.12
Stationary, connected to LAN using cable in a Gigabit switch

PC 3: Win 7 32-bit with iTunes 9.1.1.12
Netbook - connected through WiFi

Apple TV device (latest firmware) is connected to same LAN using cable as well. All PC's can ping the Apple TV without problems. So the problem is that iTunes doesn't find the Airtunes device (the output dropdown selector doesn't show up). I first tried on my main PC (PC1). It didn't work, so I tested on PC2 (which is a fresh install of both OS and iTunes!), but same problem there. But then the weird thing happened. I tried to install on my netbook, and it worked!

Only difference is that the netbook was connected through WiFi. I don't see why that would matter, but just for fun i tested to disconnect WiFi, and connect with cable and boom - airtunes selection disappeared! As soon as I disconnected the cable and reconnected WiFi, it appeared again. Why on earth would Airtunes only work on WiFi? As you can see on the attached screenshot, network configuration is equal on WiFi and cabled connection.

Applications :: ITunes 8 Suspends Airtunes Transmissions During DLs At Full Speed

Gear & Settings: Airport Express 802.11g / Macbook 802.11g / WPA2 secured network, set to 802.11g only

I have this problem that is completely reproducible every time and I wanted to check whether anyone else can confirm it .

When I'm listening to music over airTunes while anything is being downloaded at ~700KB/s, fully utilizing the capacity of my internet connection, the music temporarily stops - the little scrubber thing actually continues to move, but no music can be heard. As soon as I pause the download, the music continues. It will also stop again when I resume the download.

I can't quite believe that the data throughput should be above what my wireless 802.11g network can handle. This also didn't seem to be a problem "pre-iTunes 8".

Software :: Unexplained Airtunes / Itunes Pauses

Oct 3, 2005

almost everytime I use airtunes, somewhere in the middle of a song, the music will quit unexpectedly. sometimes the music will resume in a three-count, sometimes longer, sometimes not at all. When i look at itunes, it looks like the song is just paused - meaning the little diamond that shows where you are in the song in the display along the top isn't inching along anymore, however the actual PAUSE button on the upper left has not been selected (meaning there is not a PLAY arrow displayed. the double bar PAUSE button is still showing). I have tried:

stopping the song (clicking the PAUSE button) and then starting it again
quitting itunes and restarting
restarting my ibook (G4)
unplugging my airport express and plugging it back in to reboot
using the airport admin aplication
completely unplugging EVERYTHING (modem, airport base station, airport extreme) and then slowly rebooting them all in order
upgrading itunes to the current version

at first, I thought it was a problem with airtunes, like the signal got lost or something, but after looking at itunes and realizing the song isn't *going* anymore, i thought the problem was with the application. but I don't know. I've never experienced this if i use the computer speakers, but then again, I hardly ever use them so I really don't know that for sure. oh, and I bought my airport base station *after* the airport express, and I'm pretty sure this problem was happening when my "network" was just my ibook and the express. (my experience level: I'm a former PC'er. I'm fairly knowlegable, but more on the software end. I know *nothing* when it comes to mac hardware.

MacBook Air :: Static / Crackling And No Sound

Aug 31, 2014

I've had a late 2010 Macbook Air for over 3 years (February 2011). About a week or two ago I started hearing a strange popping noise every now and then while I was using headphones. I thought it was a problem with the headphones but then discovered the same thing when I used different external speakers. Almost simultaneously the internal speakers started periodically having no sound at all, even though it wasn't on mute. This was previously fixed by restarting the computer, but now the problem is permanent. The popping noise when using headphones has also rapidly worsened, and now crackles constantly and sometimes there is even very loud white noise. This occurs with any program on my computer - web browsers, spotify, itunes etc. I'm using Mavericks but the problem started some time after I installed it. After doing some googling to try to fix it I've tried:

- Turning it off and on again

- Installing AntiPop

- PRAM reset

- SMC reset

- Disabling and reinstalling Adobe on google chrome

- Resetting the sound card with terminal

Mac Mini :: Popping / Crackling When Connected To Stereo

I am using a Mac Mini with my home theatre set-up and when the Mac Mini is connected to my stereo using a 3.5mm Stereo Plug/2 RCA Plug Cable I get constant crackling and popping from the speakers. I've tried a new cable (didn't help) and tried plugging the Mac Mini in to a different outlet.

The cable connection at the back of the Mac Mini feels a bit loose but it seems like that's the way it's supposed to be rather than any sort of hardware issue.

Intel Mac :: Crackling When Recording Or Playing Audio

Mar 14, 2012

I'm having a very annoying problem, and I simply can't figure it out. Recently I updated my OS from Leopard to Snow Leopard, because I had some problems with the firewire connection to my fireface 400 sound card. So far this seems to have solved the problem, and for a couple of weeks I was actually able to get some work done. Now a new problem has occured:

When I input audio (i.e. trying to record something) I get some really weird crackling noises. It's very different how loud they are. Mostly they are at the same volume as the instrument I'm recording, and normally it sounds very digital. I've tried hooking a presonus firebox up to my mac, which gave me the exact same problems, so it can't be the fireface that's the problem. The problem is not something that occurs, when recording, but simply when sending audio into the mac. There are absolutely no problems when playing back files from iTunes and Logic.

I've tried repairing disk permissions, and ran all the  tests in techtool pro, which all turned out fine, so I'm having a hard time believing that it's a hardware issue even though I've had problems with the firewire connection earlier.
Though it does not sound like clipping, the problem seems to  occur more rarely, when playing soft, which just makes it even more weird.

Model Name:iMac  Model Identifier:iMac9,1  Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo  Processor Speed:2,66 GHz  Number Of Processors:1  Total Number Of Cores:2  L2 Cache:6 MB  Memory:4 GB  Bus Speed:1,07 GHz  Boot ROM Version:IM91.008D.B08  SMC Version (system):1.45f0

Everything is up to date, it just seems like something has been messed up somewhere inside the mac. Next step is to wipe the hard disc, but I'd rather not do that.

Windows On Mac :: Giving Crackling Sound / Using Blu-ray And Internal Dvd Drive

Nov 12, 2008

I have a blu-ray drive that I connected to my macbook pro under vista buisness using boot camp. I put in a blu-ray movie and a regular dvd and they both give me a crackling sound about once or twice every minute that is pretty annoying whenever I try to play a movie under cyberlink dvd. This happens when I use the external blu-ray drive (with a dvd and blu-ray) and the interal dvd drive (with a dvd) I'm watching a movie in (URL) right now and I occasionally hear a very small crackle, but no where near as bad as with cyberlink.

I'm not sure if this is a cyberlink problem or an audio problem under boot camp.

MacBook :: Crackling Sound On Aluminum (not Speakers, From Hdd) - Is It Normal

Apr 6, 2009

Whenever I wake my computer from sleep, there is a crackling sound that comes from the hard drive. After that, every five minutes or so, the crackling sound continues. It's like the sound of some crinkling a plastic sheet/static-y sound. I can hear the hard drive whirring and the crackling sound coming from that.

Is this normal? I have a 2.4 ghz Macbook aluminum, bought in Oct 2008. I'm hesitant to bring it in right now because I have finals coming up in 2 weeks and I need my laptop for it. I've already brought my Macbook in and had it sent in two times due to issues w/ the keyboard (keys not working or falling off), and each time it took about a week to get it back.
