I've done a couple of single image emails that were under 2mb in size. Decent cable upload/download speeds usually, but this is pretty slow. 2-4 minutes per email before it says "Sent".

With my new DSLR/RAW shots, I've bloated iPhoto to over 105GB for just over 20,000 photos. Was doing housecleaning, deleting files and the "aw *****" moment hit where I deleted some i wanted. Went into TimeMachine and did a Restore to my external 2TB HD (FW800) as temp place. Now, when I went to delete that 105GB file started last night 10:30 pm, here 7.5 hr later: still churning away.....wtf did I do wrong??
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have looked into this a lot already. It is to much that Time Machine backs up every single hour! It would be nice to set it to something like 3 or 5 hours. I have tried a 3rd party app to do this, but... If my computer was off or asleep when it was supposed to back up, it would get an error. It would not just do the backup when i turned it on or when it came out of sleep like stock Time Machine does. I have also seen a way to change the time incraments in the Terminal.(I am very good with it, not a noob) I have tried this and it screws up time machine completely. Maybe it does not work with the newest OS X. By the way... I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, got it 2 months ago.
Does anyone know a solid 3rd party app, that will work seamlessly. Or has anyone changed the time in Terminal and are currently using something different than 1 hour. There is a lot of examples online, but I would like the codeing that you literally used.
So I love the iPhoto "ken burns" slideshows, and I had created a cute one set to the "Linus and Lucy" theme song. However, when I exported it to a .mp4 and uploaded it to YouTube to share on my site, I got the "copyright" warning and the audio is disabled. So anyone know what the copyright limits are as far as slideshows are concerned? What's the point of allowing us to use it if we can't share it? I also noticed that the quality is degraded due to compression... would it be better just to make my own slideshow in iMovie and share that instead (quality-wise)? Or is there a better way to share the slideshow?
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhy but lately all the .wmv videos I have watched have taken an extremely long time to fully load. Before the whole file would load and I would be able to seek throughout the video to any part which I liked. Now however, the video instantaneously pops up but I have to wait for it to load before I am able to seek but I can basically watch the whole video before it fully loads (as if it was streaming).
In the attached picture, the Quicktime seek bar looks like this as I open it.
I have the free version of flip4mac, quicktime and OSX 10.5.8.
Does anyone else have this problem? Since installing SL it takes a minute or two to connect to AIM using iChat. Sometimes it can be instant but more than not it takes a long time..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI keep my time machine HD unplugged from my laptop to reduce the clutter, when i plug it in, time machine starts automatically backing up. It says "Preparing Backup..." and it stays like that for a while. I've had it like that for about 15 minutes.

The maximum space is just about 500gb but time machine has brought it to 338gb with each backup taking 10-20gb. Is this normal? On my other Mac (an aluminum imac C2D), the backups take roughly 80gb of space and on my MBP im already up to 159gb worth of backups. Is there a way to minimize the size of backups?
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor quite a while, any Java based applications on my Mac have been taking a long time to launch. When I start them, the icon just bounces on the dock for about 2 minutes and then once it stops I force quit it, start it again and it loads fine. I have the same problem with both Minecraft and Angry IP Scanner so I'm near certain that it is not application specific. All other applications load almost instantly and there is plenty of memory available (8GB installed) for them to launch. Just for reference: all of the updates available on Software Update are installed as well.

I am trying to Email a slideshow I made recently in iPhoto to another Mac user.
However, I cannot figure out if this is possible. I also tried to file transfer it to her via iChat file transfer, but no luck with this either.
Do either of these two methods (regular email or iChat file transfer) enable me to send a slideshow to someone? If not, is there any other way I can do this?
I simply find it very hard to believe that there is no way whatsoever to send someone a slideshow, especially another mac user with iPhoto.
I used to click a pic and then click the email button at the bottom of iPhoto.
Mac mail would open and I could compose a regular email.
Now I can only choose the cute options, which have no room for any significant text. I realize I can drag and drop, but was wondering if I'm missing something.
I have a 500GB time capsule that I sue to host my iTunes music and library. I pointed iTunes to the TC folder where the music is. Then I did control+click on the iTunes icon and pointed iTunes to the library which is also located at the TC. As long as I don't restart the computer it works fine, I can open and close iTunes and it finds the library ok. But every time I restart the computer I have to tell iTunes where the library is. Is there any way to configure iTunes so it does not "forget" the library's location?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac running the latest version of Lion (10.7.4) and which I have upgraded to a one terabyte hard drive and full memory capability. I back up to a My Book 2 terabyte external hard drive using Time Machine. My iMac is often very sticky, though I've done most of the diagnostics I know of and preferences etc. are seemingly all OK and fcuk -fs gives a positive result! The Mac is often hard to wake from sleep and in particular seems to spend a lot of time backing up very-very slowly, with the result that it frustratingly seems to be backing up most of the time with the consequent effects on using other programs. Also the whole thing seems to grind to a halt after a hard days work with quite a few applications open. I'm wondering what can be causing this and what I can do to overcome this very frustrating and debilitating problem?

The reason being, my girlfriend has her driving theory test about 3 days after I leave the country for a few weeks, and I will most probably be without internet access for the first few days I'm away.
At the moment, I'm sending her little mini tests every day, to help her revise, that I write myself (well, I copy them out of the book )
So I'd like to be able to send like 2 or 3 emails with mini-tests in... I'd like to specify the time and date they are delivered.
I may be missing something here so if it's obvious I apologise..
In iPhoto 09 I've created an album of images I would like to use as a slideshow and send that slideshow to iDVD. So, I select all the images, press the slideshow Play button and the slideshow plays. I can change the theme etc, but can't see a way to save this or share to iDVD whilst retaining the slideshow settings.
Am I being really really stupid or is the Slideshow in iPhoto 09 a "view only" from within iPhoto and can't be saved and exported?
I think it may have been possible in 08 but I'm not sure.
Ultimately I want to create 3 x different Slideshows using 3 of the new 09 themes and send them to iDVD, but can see how to save/export/share the slideshow whilst retaining the settings I choose.
I have made a book in iPhoto, which I can export as a movie to include in iDVD. Where can I edit the duration that a page is shown during a slideshow? With a 'normal' iphoto slideshow this is made possible by settings.

We picked up our first Mac yesterday, a 13" uMBP. I upgraded the HDD and the RAM last night and reinstalled all of the software, so it is good to go. I have a question regarding multiple accounts though, and sharing librabries.
My wife and I will each have an account on the Mac, to keep our docs and email separate. However, I want a single iPhoto library, and a single iTunes library for us both to use and sync to. I see in my account, I have Music, Pictures, Movies, etc folders, and a Public folder. As it stands, my iPhoto library is saved in my Pictures folder, which I assume my wife could not access from her account by default. Am I correct in thinking that I want to move the library to the Public folder, and then point her iPhoto to the library in the Public folder, and then we would both be accessing and working from the same library? the same would hold true for iTunes, videos, etc?
Anything wrong with sharing one iPhoto library and iTunes music folder located in a separate drive, accessed by multiple user profiles on one machine?
So far so good on my test environment. But I just wanted to know if anyone has run into an obstacle.
Watch out in Time Machine after you install and upgrade your iPhoto '09 library. My Time Machine just did a fresh backup of it....all 40GB of it! Basically it gave me the same Node require deep traversal on just the iPhoto Library....so I'm guessing it had something to do with the upgrade.

Its taking about 3-5 minutes to log out and I dont know why I have disconnected a usb without ejecting it before, and also declined an microsoft autoupdate from Word. when im logging out, the screen turns blue and theres a spinning circle at the bototm. after that, the log in screen is not able to be clicked on anything, and it will take about 5-10 minutes to be able to be clicked and log in.
