Applications :: Taking Really Long Time To Load .wmv?

Nov 9, 2009

why but lately all the .wmv videos I have watched have taken an extremely long time to fully load. Before the whole file would load and I would be able to seek throughout the video to any part which I liked. Now however, the video instantaneously pops up but I have to wait for it to load before I am able to seek but I can basically watch the whole video before it fully loads (as if it was streaming).

In the attached picture, the Quicktime seek bar looks like this as I open it.

I have the free version of flip4mac, quicktime and OSX 10.5.8.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Java Based Applications Taking Long Time To Load

Mar 27, 2012

For quite a while, any Java based applications on my Mac have been taking a long time to launch. When I start them, the icon just bounces on the dock for about 2 minutes and then once it stops I force quit it, start it again and it loads fine. I have the same problem with both Minecraft and Angry IP Scanner so I'm near certain that it is not application specific. All other applications load almost instantly and there is plenty of memory available (8GB installed) for them to launch. Just for reference: all of the updates available on Software Update are installed as well.

Applications :: Time Machine Taking Long Time To Backup - Changing Backup Time?

Dec 11, 2009

I have looked into this a lot already. It is to much that Time Machine backs up every single hour! It would be nice to set it to something like 3 or 5 hours. I have tried a 3rd party app to do this, but... If my computer was off or asleep when it was supposed to back up, it would get an error. It would not just do the backup when i turned it on or when it came out of sleep like stock Time Machine does. I have also seen a way to change the time incraments in the Terminal.(I am very good with it, not a noob) I have tried this and it screws up time machine completely. Maybe it does not work with the newest OS X. By the way... I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, got it 2 months ago.

Does anyone know a solid 3rd party app, that will work seamlessly. Or has anyone changed the time in Terminal and are currently using something different than 1 hour. There is a lot of examples online, but I would like the codeing that you literally used.

Intel Mac :: Time Machine Backups Taking Extremely Long Time Running Lion 10.7.4

Jul 2, 2012

I have an iMac running the latest version of Lion (10.7.4) and which I have upgraded to a one terabyte hard drive and full memory capability. I back up to a My Book 2 terabyte external hard drive using Time Machine. My iMac is often very sticky, though I've done most of the diagnostics I know of and preferences etc. are seemingly all OK and fcuk -fs gives a positive result! The Mac is often hard to wake from sleep and in particular seems to spend a lot of time backing up very-very slowly, with the result that it frustratingly seems to be backing up most of the time with the consequent effects on using other programs. Also the whole thing seems to grind to a halt after a hard days work with quite a few applications open. I'm wondering what can be causing this and what I can do to overcome this very frustrating and debilitating problem?

Windows On Mac :: Checkdisk Taking Very Long Time On MBP

Jul 2, 2009

I tried running a chkdsk /f /r on my late 2008 MBP yesterday. Started around 18:30, it was still running this morning and had only got to stage 4 of 5 and was on 18%, that's over 12 hours! I'm running Windows 7 64bit RC, and the partition size is 84 GB. My desktop computer on the same o/s and a 150 GB partition, took about 45-50 mins to complete this on the weekend, and I was wondering if any other MBP users had run a full checkdisk and how long it takes on their machines?

Mac Pro :: HD Spinning While Sleep - Shut Down Taking Long Time?

Mar 24, 2008

I recently did a clean install of Leopard on a brand new hard drive for my Late '06 Mac Pro. I currently have all updates installed, and the system is running very fast and very stable. But! I've been experiencing two problems over the week I've had Leopard installed, and I would just like to know if other MP users are sharing these as well...

1. Half the time I wake the computer from sleep, the fans blast off for about 10 seconds before the desktop is shown. Sometimes when the computer goes to sleep, via Energy Saver, my hard drives keep spinning.
2. Shut down takes an excruciatingly long time. My typical shut down lasts around a minute to a minute and a half.

I've read around and have seen a few problems like this, but I want to know if there are a larger majority of people with a Mac Pro who are experiencing either of these in Leopard. It's not such a nuisance, being I don't have to wait for shut down and I can wait around a few seconds when waking up the computer. Though, here's to hoping 10.5.3 or a firmware update can fix these two issues!

OS X :: Copying Files Taking Long Time While Using Internet?

Mar 21, 2010

After reformatting I got to the setup screen after the cool intro. I noticed several problems.

When on the screen asking about transferring files from another computer I chose no since I have none to transfer. But after choosing my option and trying to move forward it sat on that screen for a while until it finally moved forward. It didn't do this before.

On the screen where you'd set up your internet connection and it lists available wireless networks it was slow on there too. It took me a while to move forward after choosing a different option. It took a while to recognize that I had hit a different option. Again, it didn't do this before.

Under the internet sharing option it listed an option called bluetooth DUN. This option wasn't there before. If I recall it only used to list ethernate and airport under these options, but bluetooth DUN was the first option listed. I reformatted again because this seemed too strange, but even though ethernate was listed first bluetooth DUN was still is this listing.

On the second reformat I got a message when turning airport off. I was dumb and didn't write the message down, but I believe it said something about airport power. Again, I didn't get this message before. Not when I first set up my Mac and not on the first reformat.

None of this has happened before. It bothers me. What's wrong?

MacBook Air :: 13" Is Taking A Very Long Time To Boot-up?

My daughter purchased a MacBook Air 13" last 1.7 GH Intel Core i5, 4GB Memory. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter noticed that her computer was taking a long time to boot up. What happens is the boot-up process seems to stall on a grey screen and beach-balls until the desktop eventually appears.

MacBook :: Time Machine Taking Weird Long Backups

May 15, 2009

I had not downloaded anything or even had anything that was new to be 6 gigabyte, but I had deleted alot of useless programs from my computer which I saved about 4 gigabyte, but why would time machine backup a random 6gigs...then the backup for some reason didn't really finish and the last backup it stated was may 3rd which is wrong. Then a few minutes ago again I wanted to backup but then it took a whopping 9 gigs of whatever crap! OMG! That makes like 15-16gigs in total which is like 1/4 of my entire 'used' portion of the harddrive.

It seems that everytime I delete a program it just backs up white bytes or something and it even made my 420 gigs of free space all the way down to like 402 gigs. Sorry about the crappy grammar etc etc, but this is freaky and is pissing me off and stupid time machine won't even let us see what it is god dam backing up....and why on earth did apple make restoring from a backup ONLY from your disk? My leopard disk is broken (the one that came with my computer) and my restore discs are tiger, because apple decided to make them seperate....is there a program to merge all my time machine backups and see what time machine backed up new and also restore from a time machine backup? Or am I asking for too much, might as well email apple.

OS X :: Safari Taking Long Time To Load Pages / Spinning Beach Ball For Several Minutes

Jan 17, 2011

I am running a MacPro 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 8 GB RAM and OS 10.6.6 that is connected to an AirPort Extreme connected to a Westell DSL modem. Lately I have been experiencing strange behavior that I can not solve. When I first start up, Safari and Mail generally launch and work properly. But after a while, from 10 minutes to an hour, I get strange behavior. In Safari, pages take a long time to load- with a spinning beach ball for several minutes. Or they don't load at all. In Mail, I can't get new mail- a get a message that I'm not connected to the internet. When I go to System Preferences and check the Network, it says I am connected.

Rebooting usually solves the problem, but I am forced to reboot once an hour or so. Also, other programs show strange behavior- either failing to launch or crashing. This happens frequently with Photoshop Elements 9 and occasionally with Pages. I am also running a PowerPC Dual 2.3 GHz using OS 10.5.8 off the AirPort Extreme that runs fine and experiences none of these problems. Both machines are connected by ethernet cables to the AirPort Extreme.
