MacBook Air :: Facetime Camera Vs IChat?
Nov 10, 2010I took pictures of myself with my MacBook Air Facetime camera(right) and with my MacBook Pro iChat camera(left). I've noticed that they are quite similar. However the MacBook Pro pictures seem to be shot at a higher resolution and size. Which one do you guys think is better?

May 7, 2012My facetime was working fine until recently it asked for a login and this time when I did login with my Apple id, it prompted for email verification. However it is not able to complete the verification and keeps giving the following error message : Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again.
I have checked the support forums and they all point towards preferences. Problem is that the preferences option for face time is grayed out and I am not able to use them.

FaceTime :: Accessing FaceTime On Multiple Devices
Jun 2, 2012I wonder if with regards to accessing FaceTime on multiple devices. We have a number of Mac products (iPad, iPhones and Mac Book Pro) at our house, all connected to one wireless network. Some of these devices can log into FaceTime but others cannot (notably the MacBook pro), using the same Apple ID details. The error message I get is that I should check my network connection. However, the connection is fine, and other devices have no problems with connecting to Facetime.

Mar 3, 2008I am using ichat with my AIM account and it has worked fine. But yesterday it stopped logging me in. When I select available for my status I get a message saying "An unidentified AIM socket error has occurred". How do I fix this problem? I tried logging in using AIM on Windows Vista and it works fine so there is nothing wrong with my account. Also, I have deleted my aim account from ichat and re-addng it and I still get the same error.

Oct 7, 2010I now have a iPhone 4. Cant use Facetime as yet, and only a few people have an iphone 4, and they are workmates.
It would be great to be able to use Facetime on an iMac or even a Win PC with an integrated webcam, as I understand that Facetime is "Open format" for others to implement?
I would love to be able to use it with a Computer so eg I could use Facetime for my daughter when Im out and about on my iPhone 4, and she at home on Win PC/iMac?
Will this ever come? I know its only WiFi so far, but surely for it to work it has to go over cellar network and use Computers?

Oct 22, 2010I have an iPhone 4 as well as a Mac loaded with the new Facetime beta - after all the fun of calling myself from my phone to computer and calling a couple friends from my computer it dawned on me that when someone wants to facetime with me, they have to know where I am at. If they call me via my email address they will get me on my Mac, but if they call me on my phone number they will get my phone...obviously - what I am saying is that by having 2 places to look it makes it difficult to just "call someone".
I understand that this is no different than finding someone at home/cell/office numbers, but there are features for those to locate you - I wonder if Apple has addressed this or will in the final release? I think what is needed is a way for facetime to have "find me" feature. I think that maybe it could "ring" in to the Mac first, then to the iPhone second, or vice vera depending on how you want it set in your preferences.

Mar 19, 2009I am in the process of setting up iChat on my spousal unit's iMac. I've already created a Jabber account, using her gmail address. That seems to work fine. Now I'd like to add an AIM account. When I click on "Get an iChat Account..." in the Account Setup window,It was my understanding that this signup gets you an AIM account, but it from the first line on the page, it seems to assume that you're using .Mac (even more oddly, since .Mac doesn't actually exist any longer).What am I missing here? Aren't AIM, MobileMe and .Mac accounts the same for purposes of iChat?

May 14, 2009I have a MacBook with built in webcam, external webcam, and iChat. Next to everyone who has a Mac on iChat is the green box, but there is a phone icon rather than a video icon.
Video chats used to work, but suddenly they stopped. Clicking the green icon next to my name on top opens a box that days "My Build-in iSight" and I can see myself in that webcam, but can not make video chats. How can I fix this?

Nov 27, 2009I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.

Oct 20, 2010I've got a friend still running Leopard 10.5 but he wants to install FaceTime. I know FaceTime requires 10.6.4 but I wanted to get your input on any hacks that might get it to run on 10.5.
I'm a n00b hacker and modified the plist file within the app and set the OS minimum to 10.5 but it still fails to run. Is there anything anyone else has tried that's worked? Should I be looking in other areas within the mpkg file or .app ?

Oct 29, 2010I have a problem with the new beta of FaceTime for Mac. Right now, all I can do with it is display a window of my webcam. I can't click on Preferences in the menu bar and I also notice that "Sign Out" is grayed out. I haven't entered an Apple ID because I wasn't prompted for one. I have recently checked Apple Software Update and I have all updates installed. I also have OS X 10.6.4 installed.

Oct 3, 2010when using iChat it says in preferences under the video tab that there is no camera attached to the computer. It has as you know the built in web cam, this does work with Photo Booth and some other chat clients.
