While in MS Word and other programs, the dialog box when choosing from the menu is pretty small, with small type. Can these field input boxes be made larger with larger, more readable text?
For example, when I'm doing Find/Replace in MS Word, the input field boxes are very small, even though I have a 20" monitor.
Since the last OS update to snow leopard my dialog boxes have looked different. I'm assuming this isn't how they are supposed to look. Does anyone have any idea whats going on or how to fix it?

I'm not sure how it happened, but suddenly I have lost the ability to change some settings in print dialog boxes.
In any print dialog box, the top part of the window allows you to select which printer, any presets, the number of copies, whether or not you want them collated, and which pages.
Below that is a drop-down box that typically displays the application name. If you select the triangle in this drop-down box, some other options appear: Layout, Color Options, Paper Handling, Cover Page and Scheduler. All of these options work fine.
Below, these however, are another set of options that are all, I assume, provided by the print driver. On my HP Photosmart C7200, the available options are: Two-Sided Printing, Paper Type/Quality, Borderless Printing, HP Real Life Technologies, and Printer Driver Information.
If I choose any of these options that appear in the lower part of this drop-down menu, nothing appears. The application name remains in the drop-down box. In other words, I have lost the ability to choose two-sided printing, change the paper type or print quality, cor hoose borderless printing.
I used to get a dialogue box when quitting safari, which was useful if accidentally hitting 'command q', but has now disappeared leading to lost work etc. How I can get this useful option back.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have dozens of large PSD files (well 200 of them each abt 200mb) on a network drive folder that I need to access frequently. Access to these is really slow because it seems to want to create thumbnails every time I access that folder. I don't need thumbnails as all the files have a strict naming convention so I know what I want by name. Whatever view I use to load files (I'm using Photoshop CS5) (list, column, icons) it always tries to put a little thumbnail preview next to the file name. Is there something I can type into Terminal that will stop it doing this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEver since installing Yosemite, I've been bugged by a design choice somebody made for dialog boxes. The trouble is that it doesn't seem to have rhyme or reason. (I know there probably is a reason; I just can't figure it out.) Many dialog boxes are just fine; easy to read, with black on white or white on blue action buttons. Â
Black on blue for an "OK" or "Choose" button.Especially for those of us who are about half to fully color blind, there is almost no way to distinguish between the two.  Does Apple have no color blind people to act as the conscience of the folks who actually make these kinds of design choices?Â
I've tried changing system colors to no avail. Is there some way to complain about this other than a bug report? this is of course not a bug, as the program is functioning the way it was designed.  It's just a very poor design.Â

I recently tried to download a free trial of World of Warcraft for Macs but instead screwed up the display settings on my Macbook (version 10.6.4 OS X). I removed it from the computer when the game didn't play, it just gave a black screen, at which point I had restarted the computer to find text sizes magnified, the display setting changed so the whole screen wasn't being used, etc. I was able to change the screen display size no problem but cannot figure out how to make the icons and text in boxes such as applications in the dock, or system preferences folder smaller. Is there a way, without reinstalling the operating system, to reset these minor settings? I could live with the changes but would rather not.

Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.
Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)
if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...
Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment. This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.
I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device" I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.Â
Anyone know of a way to make the "Name" field on the login screen in Lion longer? My students login with their active directory account/email address, and almost all of them are too long for them to be able to see the whole thing when typing it into the username field.

Is there a way to make the cursor go to a dialog box when a page is opened? I use Firefox and when I go to a page that has a box where I have to apply a password etc. I have to click on that box. I would like to have the cursor be in the box if available.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLove my MBA but couldn't resist the temptation to pick up an HP 10" netbook since the Amazon price was pretty cheap ($399). It's a nice little machine which I can throw in my briefcase. However, do a little bit of work on this ten incher and then open up the MBA, and suddenly my 13" MBA looks looks huge! Each machine clearly has it's role. The netbook is fine for my daily train trip to work and to shlep around. It would not accompany me on a trip or for times requiring a lot of work and certainly does not sit in the same universe of power as the MBA, but as Randy Jackson would say, "It's a'right". I think the MBA has won my heart.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf you have a contact in Addressbook (AB) with a nickname, if you also use Apple Mail (AM) and create a new email and start to type the contact's email in the TO field, AM will finish your typing giving you a list of related possible email addresses to choose from. The problem is that in addition to the email addressk AM adds the contact's nickname as opposed to it's firstname/lastname or even business name. We need a preference for this, per contact.Â
Example:Â In AB you have a contact:Â
Name: Jon Doe
Company Doe Company
Nickname: The Doester
email: jon.doe@doecompany.comÂ
In AM you start to write an email:Â and type: "jon" and AM shows you a list of possible related emails one of which will be:Â "The Doester" [URL]Commentary: now if a casual email to a friend, this is OK. But what if this is a business oriented email and "The Doester" isn't appropriate? You can only stop the inclusion of "The Doester" by deleting it from the Nickname field in the AB. This is presumptuous on Apple's part, or a bug, that the Nickname should trump the first/lastname or company name.Â
I don't exactly know the answser to this. If we could easily choose which name to append in front of the email address (firstname/lastname, company name or nickname) that would be cool. Or maybe no name gets added if it has to be: all or nothing from a programming point of view. But having nickname as the primary, if it exists, can be a problem in certain correspondence IMHO.Â
