I have an .mpg file I would like to trim. just the last 5 seconds. ideally, then I'd like to add a fadeout to black. what freeware editor apps might I use for this quick and dirty work?

i know you's are going to say "macs dont need to be defragged" but they do
reason being when you use a mac for around a year or so and seriously load up your hard drive it generates files which cannot be moved. (files over 20mb's) why do i need to move them?
when you are creating a boot camp partition it needs to move files away from the partitioning part of your drive but some files cannot be moved without a full defrag and nothing including repairing the disc or repairing permissions can fix it to move those files even if you boot of the cd.
the only 2 things that can fix it is 1: a defrag or 2: a format
so! anyone know of a freeware bootable defrag for osx because im not up for a format.
I'm trying to play counterstrike on this laptop and it doesn't seem like 1GB RAM is enough. I looked it up on apple and it says this macbook only supports up to 2GB RAM and comes with 1GB RAM (two 512MB). Do I need to purchase two 1GB RAM or just use one 2GB RAM? Also, is there any specific brands or models you guys can recommend me?

I would prefer it not to be a Java application, because those are slow and look like poo.

View 6 Replies View RelatedFrom what I understand, remotely accessing your computer is actually not that hard with osx - AWESOME.. but i am finding that it seems like its "too easy to be true? From what i read, all you have to do is go into your system preferences on the server computer and enable sharing and then download "Chicken of the VNC" app (or something like it) and you can access your computer at home?! What about a static IP. Is a static IP required? Or is there a different path to take directly to your computer?
Also, when you are accessing your computer remotely, can you actually use sme of the more complex programs? For instance, i have an iMac at home with Adobe CS4 on it and lots of big photography files on it. Can you actually open and edit those files on your home computer from a different one?

Saw some posts about handbrake and mac the ripper (not really sure what the difference is). Anyways about to download handbrake...but it has 3 versions, a 32 bit and 64 bit. Does it matter which version I pick? (I have a 2010 macbook pro 13). Also do I need to download a VLC media player. Or does mac have all the media player needed to view whatever video format?

I just went to the iTunes store and deauthorized the 5 computers authorized to use/listen to my purchased music. I started clicking random purchased music (from iTunes, most of which is DRM'd) thinking that iTunes would prompt me to authorize my machine- it didn't. I closed iTunes and tried again, I was still able to play all of the randomly selected purchased tunes. I went to my daughter's machine and was able to play purchased tunes. Is Apple no longer checking for authorized? Has anyone else deauthorized their machine since Apple went "DRM free"?

So far I have trashed the iphoto prefs.-finder.plist and ran diskwarrior. when i click on a thumb pic. it opens but it will break apart into blocks in the window; I click on the outside of the pic. to close and click on pic. again and it will open okay.quite often when it reopens it seems that the redraw of the pic is a little slow. after opening several pics. it seems to settle down and work okay for awhile. when I close the iphoto app.

I am living in South Korea, and have been collecting Korean DVDs for the last year. I'm planning on leaving Korea, and would like to take my collection with me, so I don't have to deal with the region coding issues back home.
I have used Handbrake to rip a couple of my DVDs with subtitles embedded, but I would like to get them into .avi files for easy use with USB ports on DVD players back home.
Is there a way to get Handbrake to rip the DVDs into .avi format? or do I need another program to convert/compress them into .avi? Is there a good freeware program to convert/compress?
