OS X :: Apple Script For Converting Audio Files Using FFMPEG

Sep 26, 2010

I have installed ffmpeg using MacPorts and am trying to work out a script that will convert audio files in a specified folder to mp3 files, outputting the converted files as mp3 files in another folder. So far the script looks like this:

code:set convertPath to "Macintosh HD:opt:local:bin:ffmpeg"
set convertCommand to quoted form of POSIX path of convertPath & " -i {infile} -f mp3 -ar 44100 -ab 128 -acodec mp3 - "
tell application "Finder"
set inPath to "Macintosh HD:Users:nick:Desktop:new:"
set outPath to "Macintosh HD:Users:nick:Desktop:new2:"
set myFiles to (files of entire contents of inPath whose name ends with ".m4a") as alias list
repeat with i from 1 to count of myFiles
do shell script convertCommand
end repeat
end tell

With this script I am getting the error : "Can't make every file of "class ects" of "Macintosh HD: Users:nick:Desktop:new:" whose name ends with ".m4a" into type alias list." I am not sure how to define the do shell script command so that it outputs an MP3 file in the output directory.

I would like to scan some documents of printed text with my HP Photosmart All-in-One, convert the image to a text file and then convert the text file to audio and load that into my iPhone so that I can listen to it while I'm doing other things. The question is, are there any apps that do all of this or some set of apps to do this.

Applications :: Converting MPEG-1 Audio File To MP3 Type

Apr 28, 2009

Even though the file extension says .mp3, this song won't play in my iPod Touch. I got a "Get info" on the file and found out that it is a MPEG-1 audio file type, unlike all other of my songs that are mp3's. What I need is an application that will open this file, convert it and let me save it as an mp3. QT will not even open this file.

Applications :: Convert SWF Files To MP3 - Free Audio Extraction Or Video / Audio Converter Exist?

May 29, 2010

I want to convert some video files (specifically swf in this case) to audio files so I can listen on my iPod. I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.

Applications :: Converting .VOB Files To FLAC Or MP3?

May 25, 2008

I had a quick question. I have a DVD audio disk that was "imaged", a .iso file. When I open it in OSX, it mounts the image as a drive and I can access the files inside. Using VLC I can play the .VOB audio files.I would like to convert the files to either FLAC or MP3 so I can archive them on my computer and also burn them to CD-R as I can't play the DVD-A outside my computer. So I was curious were there are programs/freeware to convert these files.

Applications :: Converting Video Files To Dvd?

Jan 29, 2009

I have searched everywhere and can not get a good answer. I just bought myself a new imac and this is my first mac. I used to use convertxtodvd on my pc.

I read that toast titanium does a good job of converting any video file to dvd but you can not download it to try it out, you just have to buy it. I do not want to waste my money if it does not turn out to be the quality I am looking for.

Any suggestions of any programs that does this task and performs well?

Applications :: Converting Images Into PDF Files?

Feb 18, 2009

I was wondering if there was an easy way to take a very long image, and convert it to a several page PDF file. I have Dragoman, which converts PNG files to PDFs, although it keeps it as one page. I would like it to automatically split the long image into several pages. Is there any way of doing this short of editing the image and exporting each page length section separately? If there isn't a Mac program, is there a Windows program that can do it? I have Parallels too, but either way I would like to know.

I found one called mpegstream clip which is good, but it seems to only do one at a time, it there a feature in it that can do more than one at a time? One at a time is ok for 4 videos or less, but when I have more than that it can get a little tedious. Specifically, I need something that can batch convert my mpg movies files my point & shoot digicam can take to a format that imovie 09 will import & work with.

Applications :: ITunes - Importing Cds And Converting Files Uses All Of Systems Memory?

Apr 19, 2009

I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem? Whenever I import a cd into iTunes, or convert a track to a different bit rate, it literally uses all my computer's memory/CPU. I cannot use the computer for anything else during this time as it's far far too slow, to the point where programs won't even open. This wasn't always the case, but it seems with each new version of iTunes it becomes worse and worse. I import at a pretty low bitrate 128 mp3. I am only trying to surf the net when I'm importing, I'm not doing anything else or using/running any other programs. If I do try to use another program (like my email program - outlook) it will barely open, takes forever to do anything, and wants to freeze. I can't use Microsoft Word because typing anything is impossible. Massive lag before the typed words show up.

OS X :: Finding Freeware Program For Synchronization Of Files?

Aug 7, 2010

I just switched over from a PC a couple of days ago and I am getting used to my new Macbook Pro, and MAC OS X. However I have run into a problem I have no idea how to fix, or what's wrong.

I have the "Switching to the Mac" book from the Missing Manuals series, and throughout the book it mentions wonderful keyboard shortcuts that can be used for a variety of things. The problem is that most of them do not seem to work. For example, Control-F4 is apparently meant to cycle through all open windows, only it does nothing on my computer. This is true of many of the shortcuts I have tried. I tried to search the forums here but haven't found an answer, nor has googling turned up anything useful.

Also, I was using a program called Syncback to sync my flash drive with a folder on my hard drive before, and that program is not available for macs, so I have been looking for a replacement. I tried Rsync, but it didn't seem to work - only syncing some of the files in the specified folder. Does anyone know of a freeware program for synchronization of files that is good?

OS X :: Converting Certain .AVI Clips With Audio?

Feb 26, 2009

I'm not entirely sure which might be the correct forum for this question, not sure if i have the right spot but,..here goes..If someone can't be of help, please direct me to the correct forum.

I do a lot of media conversion from various formats using QT, VLC Player, Video Converter for Mac, Cleaner, Mpeg Streamclip, Sorenson Squeeze, Visual Hub, etc

Quite often i still run into (PC created) .avi clips that simply WILL NOT export/convert with SOUND, they will only PLAY with sound on the VLC Player but cannot seem to be converted into any kind of format WITH sound. I'm assuming this is some kind of codec issue but since i only know the clip as an .avi (and some AVI's convert fine including Divx and Xvid, others don't) and have no known way of analyzing the clip i don't know how to convert it.

MacBook Pro :: Lose Audio After Converting Avi To Dvd?

Jan 1, 2011

After converting avi files to dvd I lose audio on more than half the files. The audio works fine on the avi file. However once its converted the movie plays with no sound.

I'm currently using a free trial version of divX convertor. Then I use iDVD to burn the movie. However the problem isn't with iDVD because when I just try to play the converted movie through the divX player or quicktime there is no sound. Obviously the same holds true when I send the converted file to iDVD.

1. What is the reason for this happening?

2. Do I need to use a different convertor? Or do I need to install additional programs?

3. I'm not the most computer savvy person so please try to give a simple explanation and instruction.
