Applications :: Freeware Little Snitch Equivalent?
Jun 7, 2010
Just curious if anyone knows of a program with similar features to Little Snitch that is shareware.
This has probably been brought up in another thread already but I wasn't able to find the answer I was looking for. If you happen to know of that conversation it would be awesome if you could post a link to it.
I uninstalled LittleSnitch with Appcleaner but I still have the network icon on my menu bar. Every few moments I get a notification that LittleSnitch trial is over. I did a search through spotlight for "little snitch" and I get no results.
I've been running the Little Snitch demo for some time now and have been noticing that the links that it tells me are active are wrong. This is what I read when I hover my mouse over the icon in the menu bar.
For example I'm downloading the Aperture 2 manual now from Apple however Little Snitch says that Safari is downloading it from [URL] or something. Like what the heck?
No other webpage, download or application was using the internet at the time. Is it that Apple uses this address or is it that Little Snitch has gone crazy?
A few days ago I installed a legit version of Little Snitch on my iMac. The program and the internet worked fine but the pop ups were just too annoying. I uninstalled Little Snitch using the uninstaller that came with the program, restarted my computer and then my internet was crippled. I could access the internet through Firefox and safari but all other programs were unable to access the internet, including a shell script that I embeded on my Desktop and Azures. After trying everything I could think of, including restarting and looking for /System/Library/Extensions/LittleSnitch.kext I re-installed Little Snitch and all my programs work fine. Any way to get rid of Little Snitch while keeping my internet working?
One of the features I mostly like about Little Snitch is the Alert Panel pop ups, which give me full control of what type of access is given to which applications. Here is the alert panel: I found that some users dislike it, and even some discussions were started on how to get rid of it. That's not my case today. My Little Snitch was working perfectly until I decided to upgrade my Macbook HD to a higher storage. I went to an authorized Mac store, which replaced the new HD into place and advised me to go back home and boot the MacBook with the installation disk pressing C.
Then, after installation, I chose to restore my files from the last Time Machine backup. However, after doing this it seemed that many applications including Little Snitch started to operate differently... as if I would be running them for the first time. So in addition to the automatic Time Machine restore, I went to a manual restore of applications and library items. When I tried to overwrite the files of Little Snitch on the Library folder, I was asked my Administrator password. Then after typing it, I received the message that I did not have sufficient administrator preferences................
My church is in the process of opening a coffeehouse to the public, in order to support some of our projects, and in order to do so, we will need to keep track of all sales for tax purposes. I'm looking for a simple point-of-sale freeware to do this. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

im looking for a Freeware Bootable Defrag App for Mac OSX 10.6
i know you's are going to say "macs dont need to be defragged" but they do
reason being when you use a mac for around a year or so and seriously load up your hard drive it generates files which cannot be moved. (files over 20mb's) why do i need to move them?
when you are creating a boot camp partition it needs to move files away from the partitioning part of your drive but some files cannot be moved without a full defrag and nothing including repairing the disc or repairing permissions can fix it to move those files even if you boot of the cd.
the only 2 things that can fix it is 1: a defrag or 2: a format
so! anyone know of a freeware bootable defrag for osx because im not up for a format.
I have 205 files that were accidentally deleted from my computers hard drive. The files are visible in PodSalvage. Can any Macintosh genius, hackers etc. direct me to a freeware application or method to recover the files?
I have been searching and searching for this and i give up. Can you give me a free alternative to flash CS4? I want tweening.I will try to figure out how to use it. Just want something like CS4 that is freeware.
I just want some advice on what freeware applications i should install for Leopard that would make using my macbook better. Any freeware applications that you would recommend that you use on a daily basis?
I have an .mpg file I would like to trim. just the last 5 seconds. ideally, then I'd like to add a fadeout to black. what freeware editor apps might I use for this quick and dirty work?
I need a software like Putty on Windows, but for OSX. I have a USB-RS232 'dongle' and serial cable I use to access the console on some UNIX servers, but I need a serial terminal software to use it.
iPhoto is great, but I need something like windows Paint, that can edit photos, i.e. color in/out a license plate on a car pic and what not. I'm looking for a simple and hopefully free equivalent, not a professional program at this time. I'm new to mac, so I don't know what's out there and didn't see anything listed in the help menu for mac apps here.
good Graphmatica equivalent for OS X? I've tried geoMac and EdenGraph, but like neither of those.
EdenGraph can't plot multiple curves at the same time, and while dragging, the curves disappear, while with geoMac I have to manually specify the range when drawing a graph of the function, and I don't know how to get the coordinate of a point on the graph.
I'm desperatingly looking for the AnyDVD equivalent on Mac, the famous Win software from Slysoft. I tried to use DVD2One, which itself is very fast (considering that it uses all the CPU cores), but unfortunately it cannot handle copy-protected DVDs. First ripping the DVD on the Hd with Mac The Ripper is a time wasting, considering that in Windows AnyDVD simply removes the protection via software, without any previous extraction of the DVD content.
I just transferred from PC to Mac. On my PC, I kept all my passwords and personal info in RoboForm. I would like a similar program on Mac that I can use to keep track of all my passwords. It has to be able to import my Roboform data into it and it also has to be compatible with Firefox.
