I need a word processor for Snow Leopard that will read and write to the .doc and .rtf formats. I had NeoOffice but it is basically far from ready for prime time. It will not format picture inserts properly and dropped two out of three pages of my document when I saved it. Yes, I did have the Snow Leopard upgrade for it.
View 24 RepliesI am in search for a lightweight, TextEdit-like app that has the handy floating text insert feature. Freeware would be the greatest, but i dont mind paying a modest shareware fee. I have and use Appleworks still, which has the handy feature by Option-Clicking anywhere you want the floating text, but am looking for something a little more future proof.
I downloaded Bean and iText Express, but I could not find that sweet feature in those apps.
I wish Apple would develop (buy or steal) a good word processor. How about just reengineering Pages to LOOK like MS Word? The familiarity would be a big selling point. I bought iwork... and Pages just baffles me how strange it is.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI need a database of names and addresses that can be exported into a word processor for output of paper letters, with envelopes. Would anyone know of the best way to effect this? Anymore I use email, but in this instance that will not work. The standard Address Book would work fine for the data, but I find no way of importing each name and address to a word processor, such as Text Edit. The closest I've come is exporting a vCard from Address Book, which then can be opened by Text Edit, however not only several steps required, but also a profusion of needless data entwining the name and address. If not wishing to pay for all the many features of iWork, I'm not even sure if this suite of programs would answer this task, either. If preferring to use the Address Book, what would be the best solution, possibly software, to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedCan anyone tell me if there is a word processor available for the Mac with a spellchecker interface similar to the one used in WordPerfect? I have recently purchased a Mac and would like to install a word processor on it. I am dyslexic and I have found the WordPerfect spellchecker interface to be the best one I've come across for my needs, far better than MS Word. This also includes being better than Text Help System's Read & Write, the spellchecking application designed and recommended for dyslexics! In WordPerfect, if you don't spell a word correctly, you can retype the spelling. Instead of having to hit suggest, it automatically makes suggestions as you retype.
This way, after only typing part of the word, you may see the correct spelling come up. If your new suggestion is wrong you can then simply retype the word until you get a suggestion which works. Much quicker than hitting suggest 4-5 times and it takes into account the original misspelt word when making the new suggestions. In comparison the version of Read and Write I have, which was released in 2006, didn't even have a suggest option. So much for specialist software. In fact it didn't even have the word dyslexic in it's dictionary, until I point out this omission to them! If there isn't such a word processor available for the Mac, I might consider buying and installing WordPerfect X4 in my virtual Windows 7. However having purchased a Mac, I would prefer where possible to use Mac based software.
I'm running Microsoft Word X for Mac, and have recently updated my computer to run to Snow Leopard.
Now the round bullets have turned into Greek Sigmas, both in old documents and if I try to create new.
i'm looking at moving over to the Mac in a couple days and i just need to know the best free Word Processor that can open .doc files. 99% of my docs made in Word are of the 97-2003 variety and not 2007's .docx.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a G5 DP with the infamous white noise problem coming through my speakers that was only fixed after downloading the chud tools and disabling the NAP settings - does anyone know if I'll have the same issues if I install Leopard? Want to upgrade but don't want to waste my money if the noise comes back and I can't get it to work. Also, I'm using an m-audio firewire 410 that doesn't have drivers yet; has anyone used the Tiger drivers with success on Leopard?
My main Mac is a Intel Core Duo Mac mini which is not 64-bit. Snow Leopard is known for being 64-bit OS. Will it run on a 32-bit machine?

I've been running some deinterlacing jobs with Compressor on our Mac Pro 3,1 dual processor. We'd added some RAM so I was interested to have a look in Activity Monitor to see how it was faring and noticed that the CPU activity never went above 50%. I find it very hard to believe that Compressor isn't intended to take advantage of both processors.

When I contacted Paul at MadBoa, he said he'd send me a patch but I guess he got too busy, but he said it *will* compile under 10.6.3 also.

I have an iMac G5 (circa 2005) with a non intel processor, I recently purchased Snow Leopard to update this, however it advised I need an Intel Processor to install Snow Leopard. Is there a way of getting round this, the main reason being is I want to use the Magic Trackpad - but ive been told this will only run on Snow Leopard OSX? If anyone could answer this asap I would be grateful, today is the last day I can take back Snow Leopard and the Magic Trackpad to the Apple Store for a refund.

My brother has the first generation of the iMacs that has a Core duo processor (not Core 2 Duo). Will snow leopard work on it? On Apples site, it says that you need a Intel processor to run Snow leopard, but then below it says you need a 64bit processor which is what he doesn't have.

View 2 Replies View Relatedthis is really strange, and potentially a big irritant. so i started working with OOo Writer today on my MBP. and while everything is fine, i soon noticed that there seems to no shortcut to the right click! which means that every time the dictionary suggests a word correction, or i want to quickly access the right click menu, i am forced to move to the touchpad and use 2 fingers to right click! in windows there is the Alt key that quickly brings up the list of spelling corrections in 1 key stroke. so i must say i am rather surprised that this is not the case with mac os! i hope i am missing something out, otherwise my word processing work just became that much more tedious

I use the Dvorak keyboard layout on my MacBook Pro, but like to use the Dvorak-Qwery Command option, which means that Cmd+* uses the Qwerty layout (When I try to use Dvorak for Cmd, I always end up pressing Cmd+Q when I don't mean to).
This works great in every app I've tried so far, except for one: Microsoft Word (and possibly the other Office apps as well). Initially, I dismissed it as a problem with Word 2004, and figured it would be fixed in 2008. I was mistaken - kind of.
So any discussion of why Apple would remove the most common function of all word processors in the world, is not permitted. Let's be NICE then.... this is a common fuction that has been removed and it is costing my company lost time in productivity. We can't find files, we can't sort through "duplicates" and "versions". Common practicies our employees have used on all computers are now not compatible with three of our office systems. We upgrade to Lion 10.7.4 to get icloud for phones and ipads, and lose productivity in our office due to lost functions in a word processor. Apparently Apple doesn't want us to think for ourselves. Is there as way to restore this common function to Pages???

after doing my upgrade to snow leopard whenever i go to open microsoft word 08 for mac, it prompts me something about "xxx" was a font downloaded from the internet do you want to allow or not allow... but it doesn't do it once... it does it for every font soooooooooooo annoying. i ended up having to just force quit. is there a way i can fix this without having to sit and allow all of those? not clue how long it will take cause it kinda hangs a little in between each prompt. it didn't do this before i upgraded to snow leopard. i need to have access to word by this weekend cause i have a class that starts on saturday.

I finally got through the printer issue by re-loading a driver, but after removing and re-loading Word, I still have issues. I've repaired permissions, verified the disk and I still find it crashes when calling up a file. This app is impossible to work with, so what to do next?

Whenever I type a word into a search box, the same word, or a word the computer thinks I wanted to type appears next to it. I would describe it as intrusive, unwanted predictive tet, and I cannt find a way to prevent it or switch it off. I'm using Snow Leopard on a Mac Mini.

I have been trying to find a program or app on my mac that will enable me to click on a word in one pdf file from my documents which would then open another pdf file in my documents. I can't seem to be able to do it on preview via the hyperlink or adobe reader

When I open Word for Mac, the window opens very small and I cannot enlarge it with the bottom corner square. Changing the view does not help as that only affects the text inside the window. How do I get the window to enlarge so that I can work on the document?
