I always end up staring at my computer screen too long and loose track of time(Photo Editing), which I don't think is healthy. Does anyone know any software for Macs that will monitor how long I've been working and remind me to take breaks, etc?
View 4 RepliesI'm looking for an app that monitors my network usage. Currently, I use iStat Pro, but that "forgets" the "Total In" value upon reboot.
I want to monitor my network activity over a month or so, to see what my average usage per month / day is.
Is there any app that keeps the progress?
My ISP has a cap of just 10gb per month (ridiculous I know) and im sure im going over it.
Ive had a quick google but cant seem to find a way of monitoring how much im downloading in total, including all web browsing/video streaming etc etc. Anyone know of an app or widget (preferably free)?
I was wondering if it's possible to send video to another computer using a network, and use it as an external screen. Now the biggest problem: The slave computer has to be a windows computer.
We have LCD screens with built-in computer, and it's windows. It's used for a lighting show.
I'm not sure if this can help me find the huge file that iTunes is downloading that keeps starting every freaking time it starts up, so I can delete it, and I'm not even sure that if I managed to delete it whether it will stop iTunes from trying to download it again

Where else I can look what's being executed upon boot? because under process I see BlackBerry's Daemon (I'm no longer BlackBerry user, I'm okay to leave Application, but I don't want it to boot up during startup) and I'm pretty sure there is other stuff as well.
When turning on the computer (from a completely off state) it takes very long to get all my log-in apps started. Safari pages don't just appear anymore, there is actually some loading time.... some apps just aren't as snappy....

I have wireless internet (time capsule) and I am running a pretty powerful real time financial work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network? is it a hard drive issue? do I only need to "clean out" the computer? Or all of the above...not to computer saavy. It is a Macbook Pro osx 10.6.8 (late 2010).

My computer crashed last night. When I started it back up, the permissions on one of my internal drives in my Mac Pro that I store data on had changed. This caused some problems when trying to open applications with files stored on that volume (i.e. my Adobe Lightroom catalog). I fixed these issues, and then restarted my Mac. When I did, I saw this:

My computer keeps stalling and rotating beachball won't allow me to move forwards or backwards. Ultimately I need to turn off the power. I have tried resetting the PRAM and SMC but neither seems to help for too long.

I have a 27" iMac with Snow Leopard. I have iStat Menus installed and it has a network monitor that shows incoming and outgoing bandwidth usage. It is currently showing 1mb/sec uploading and I don't know what process is doing it. Is there an easy way to tell what program or process is uploading data through my network connection (it's wired, not wireless).
View 1 Replies View Relatedresolution is set @ 720p...so i hooked up my mini to my hdtv via HDMI but the fonts are hard to read. i mean they're still readable but hard for the eyes. i have my pc also hooked up via HDMI and fonts are perfectly clear and readable but not teh mini.

've been a PC person since forever but more and more I've come in need of a mac, mainly for editing and the use of Final Cut Pro and After Effects. My PC has served me well but was slowing and so when I saw a cheap G5 for sale I snapped it up. Now I'm aware it's the older PowerPC style and it doesn't support the latest and greatest apps but FCP 6 will do me fine. However I have some hardware setup questions I can't seem to find a simple answer to anywhere so I turn to you for.
My G5 came with a rather nice 23' HD Cinema display that I'm currently using, however in my old PC setup I used 3 monitors, 2 identical ones and a TV via DVI-HDMI so I could edit over the two windows and monitor my work on the telly.
Looking to get a monitor calibrator for my powerbook. I have about 750 pictures I need to edit for print via an online print shop but am having a hard time configuring my powerbook screen. I am partially color blind and wear glasses so using software hasn't worked very well for me. I was wondering if anyone could reccomend any of the hardware monitor calibrators.

The reason i ask is because i have a package that allows me 1gig of traffic a month, after which there are some stupid rates *per day* of usage and the speed will be throttled as well.
I want to know is that is there any software that I can use to monitor or control Network traffic in my company? Sometime I connect my laptop to a wireless router and it's very slow to use remote desktop, transfer file or access to Internet. but It is as fast as normal on the server or other computer connected to the main switch.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently using a Mac OS X 10.5.7 at my job. For some odd reason the entire screen resolution has increased and is now too big for the actual moniter. So now every time I move my mouse the ENTIRE screen inside my moniter moves around with it. Picture a 21" screen inside a 17" moniter, so everytime you move your mouse the entire screen inside the moniter moves around with it. I have tried adjusting the display size thinking that may have been the problem, but it is at 1680 x 1050 which is the largest it can get on this computer.

The brand needs to be Samsung, and the look of the Samsung moniter I would prefer to look like the examples below. Why? Because I want it to match my TV. I'm also looking for a small monitor because the space I have is pretty small and I dont want to have to move my iMac and look at it at a angle. I currently have a Samsung SyncMaster 906BW with a 1440 x 900 60hz resolution and its VERY dull compared to my iMac and its at 100% brightness and 85% contrast. I really love this monitor so much I hate to hook the Dell up to my Dell 24 inch monitor and would rather give up that monitor and gain desk space. The only other option is to use a Samsung 40 inch LED TV as my Dell's monitor.
I use the iMac for video, pictures and music. I have Windows 7 running via Parallels but would rather just use the new Dell as a Windows computer and the iMac for personal use.
I have reviewed several support threads on the subject of a 2008 Mac Pro not waking up after it goes to sleep. I have a 2008 mac pro that was working flawlessly with a 26 inch asus monitor. My bluetooth mouse and keyboard would wake it up instantly. I decided to add a second monitor, a 27 inch planar. I had the mac set up to save power and after just five minutes of non-use it would go to sleep. My wife asked me if I would keep it on longer so she could watch the pictures that show up through the screen saver so I set it to 15 minutes and then it goes to sleep. Now though, if it goes to sleep it won't wake up and remote connections from an imac fail to awaken it as well. I am forced to hold down the power button to shut it down. I have tried the startup where I hold down command option p r but I can't get it to sound a second chime whether I start after the first chime or before the gray screen appears. After trying this every other restart does not work, the fans turn on but nothing else happens. It is quite odd. I am at my witts end.

I have already read other threads that are similar... but not the same as this.
I have a 15" late 2007 MBP that has always worked great, until recently. (10.5.8) The screen was blank this morning. I closed the lid, but the computer did not enter sleep. I opened the lid, and still nothing. (I can still hear the fan working)
I held down the power key for 5 seconds and forced the computer to turn off, and then rebooted. The computer started up as per normal, but still no screen activity. I plugged into my TV - no output signal.
I close the lid again to attempt to sleep, but no sleep. The computer is still running, even with the lid closed. I open the lid, still the same.
After doing a bunch of different things over and over, the screen came back on!
I came back to the laptop later in the morning, and I had to spend 1/2 an hour repeating the above process all over again. There seems to be no logic in my process that gets the monitor working again.
Does anyone think this is a monitor problem, or possibly a latch problem? I've heard that the latch is an important part of the monitor...
(I did upgrade my hard drive myself about 6 months ago, but no problems since... until now.)
Like the title says; my dad's vision is getting progressively worse, so I'm looking to fix him up with a ridiculously bright, preferably very large monitor. He likes photography, so at least moderate color accuracy would be nice (video performance is completely irrelevant), but is secondary, since if he can't see it it doesn't much matter how good the color is. Not ridiculously expensive, also nice.
I can, of course, go sort monitors at Newegg by brightness and pick the highest one, but if some of the online tests are to be believed, the specced brightness isn't necessarily accurate, and that doesn't tell the story if it looks like complete crap otherwise.
On paper the Hanns�G HG-281DPB is ridiculous in brightness and size, but it's basically a TV (HDMI-only); I like ViewSonic and Samsung, but on paper most of their screens aren't notably bright.
