OS X :: Finding Uploading And Network Monitor?

Sep 3, 2010

I have a 27" iMac with Snow Leopard. I have iStat Menus installed and it has a network monitor that shows incoming and outgoing bandwidth usage. It is currently showing 1mb/sec uploading and I don't know what process is doing it. Is there an easy way to tell what program or process is uploading data through my network connection (it's wired, not wireless).

OS X :: Finding Widget To Monitor Network Usage?

Sep 10, 2009

I have just successfully tethered my Nokia 5800 to my MBP and its working great... just one question, is there some way to monitor (maybe like a widget?) how much data i have upped and downloaded?

The reason i ask is because i have a package that allows me 1gig of traffic a month, after which there are some stupid rates *per day* of usage and the speed will be throttled as well.

I'm looking for an app that monitors my network usage. Currently, I use iStat Pro, but that "forgets" the "Total In" value upon reboot.

I want to monitor my network activity over a month or so, to see what my average usage per month / day is.
Is there any app that keeps the progress?

Applications :: Uploading RSS Items To Personal Website - Finding This Type Of App

Mar 10, 2010

Just like many of you I purchased the Macheist Nanobundle and am looking to finally put the domain names i've been paying for over a year for to use. One will be a personal blog. The second I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with but I have figured it out.

What i'd like to do is be able to post up RSS news feed items from multiple different websites so that friends and family and read the best of. Basically i'll filter through everything (as I already do) and just forward on the best of items. Currently I have all of my RSS feeds through google reader, and currently read them on NetNewsWire on my mac. Is there a current application or website which will allow me to do this?

OS X :: Is Normal For Network Usage To Spike Every So Often In Activity Monitor When Not Using Anything

Jan 27, 2009

it is normal for network usage to spike every so often in activity monitor when I am not using anything on my mac, and don't have any apps open? For example, if I open up activity monitor, click on the network tab at the bottom, i'll get a little spike in data received every so often, maybe every 20-30 seconds, usually 50-200 bytes, nothing big... Occasionally there will be a little red spike for data sent mixed in there too, about the same size, every once in a while.

PowerPC :: Finding Multi Monitor Setups G5

Sep 5, 2010

've been a PC person since forever but more and more I've come in need of a mac, mainly for editing and the use of Final Cut Pro and After Effects. My PC has served me well but was slowing and so when I saw a cheap G5 for sale I snapped it up. Now I'm aware it's the older PowerPC style and it doesn't support the latest and greatest apps but FCP 6 will do me fine. However I have some hardware setup questions I can't seem to find a simple answer to anywhere so I turn to you for.

My G5 came with a rather nice 23' HD Cinema display that I'm currently using, however in my old PC setup I used 3 monitors, 2 identical ones and a TV via DVI-HDMI so I could edit over the two windows and monitor my work on the telly.

OS X :: Finding External LCD Monitor That Is As Bright As IMac Screen

Jul 10, 2009

I'm looking for a external monitor that is compairable in brightness as my iMac's screen. The brand needs to be Samsung, and the look of the Samsung moniter I would prefer to look like the examples below. Why? Because I want it to match my TV. I'm also looking for a small monitor because the space I have is pretty small and I dont want to have to move my iMac and look at it at a angle. I currently have a Samsung SyncMaster 906BW with a 1440 x 900 60hz resolution and its VERY dull compared to my iMac and its at 100% brightness and 85% contrast. Here are some of the screens I'm looking at so far, would they be close to as bright as my iMac's screen?

Windows On Mac :: Finding Network Drivers For Vista 32-bit?

Jul 15, 2009

I tried to install Vista business edition 32-bit (without SP1) on my Unibody Macbook Pro (late 2008 model). After that, I installed

1) Bootcamp 2.0 from a retail Leopard DVD and its upgraded version (2.1)
2) nForce 730i driver (from NVIDIA web site)
3) Geforce 9000M series graphics card driver (from NVIDIA web site)

Currently there are still several driver issues:

1) "Network Controller" driver is not working.
2) "Apple iSight" driver is not working.
3) No wireless device shown up in my device manager.
4) No sound.

I don't have my original MacOSX DVD with me. Does anybody know how to fix those problems?

Hardware :: Finding Home Network Setup

Mar 4, 2010

I want to set up a home network but I'm utterly clueless in networking so I turn to you guys for help I believe I should have almost all the components to set one up but I need some pointers.

I'm the only person in the house who uses a Mac, also have two Windows 7 desktops (one connected via wifi and the other ethernet). I also have a printer and a 500GB hard drive (the 3.5" IDE ones) that I want to hook up to the network.

I guess my end goal is to have all three machines in a "LAN" and play nicely together (file sharing and stuff), print documents through the network and have a "central backup".

Currently I have a Linksys wireless router with SpeedBooster (model WRT54GS), it doesn't have any USB i/o so I guess I will need a router with USB? If I don't get a router with USB then will I be able to print from my MacBook if the printer is plugged to another desktop? Perhaps a TimeCapsule?

Hardware :: Finding Large, Extra-bright Monitor Recommendations?

Oct 12, 2009

Like the title says; my dad's vision is getting progressively worse, so I'm looking to fix him up with a ridiculously bright, preferably very large monitor. He likes photography, so at least moderate color accuracy would be nice (video performance is completely irrelevant), but is secondary, since if he can't see it it doesn't much matter how good the color is. Not ridiculously expensive, also nice.

I can, of course, go sort monitors at Newegg by brightness and pick the highest one, but if some of the online tests are to be believed, the specced brightness isn't necessarily accurate, and that doesn't tell the story if it looks like complete crap otherwise.

On paper the HannsG HG-281DPB is ridiculous in brightness and size, but it's basically a TV (HDMI-only); I like ViewSonic and Samsung, but on paper most of their screens aren't notably bright.

Applications :: Finding Backup Software For Large Mac Network?

Dec 4, 2009

I was curious what others are using as backup solutions to backup medium-sized Mac networks (17-25 Macs on a network)?

I had been using Retrospect 6 since the early 1990's, and it was absolutely wonderful and a delight to use. But the new Retrospect 8 which I have been trying to use unsuccessfully for almost a year now is just horrible. The product changed hands several times and has a new set of programmers, and the product has literally thousands of bugs and is completely unreliable. Retrospect 8 may very well be the worst piece of Macintosh software that I have EVER used in 17 years of business. If you check the Retrospect 8 forums, you will see that I am far from alone on this opinion!

So, Retrospect is no longer a viable option anymore as backup software.
