I'm still looking for a lesson planner software on my MAC. I've been using iCal, but long entries (events) and printing are difficult to work with. I was going to try Entourage, but been told it won't be in the next version of Office 4 MAC.

I'm thinking of switching from iCal (will keep it only for scheduling and alerts, as it is meant to do) since it's not very convenient to enter a lot of text in an event. Still have 2 weeks left before school, and I'd like to create a Planner with the iWork applications - and then the beautiful iPad comes in.

I cannot seem to find the locations of the lesson files? any ideas how I can acheive this?
I am planning a trip to Italy in July and I'm looking for an app which I can use to plot the locations of everywhere I want to go and plan the best possible route to view them all. I will be staying in one place for the majority of the two weeks I'm there but will be looking to stay at the odd hotel when I'm visiting the north of Italy.
Once I've decided where I want to view, and when. I want to be able to create itineraries which will contain details of the place I'm visiting (mainly the address, distance and time, so I can't easily input the details into my sat nav and don't have to rely on having an internet connection whilst out there.
I'm looking for a planner application that's fairly easy to use and has a lot of features.

You know, like a each month of the year mapped out and you can colour them differently or block out certain weeks to signify something important. My goal is to setup a share point that will support teacher shares with assignment upload and download folders in each share. I would like to automount these shares upon login so they show up on the desktop.
Currently the teachers have open directory accounts with a Managed preference login item that mounts the share point.
The students are using local accounts in the labs and I've automounted a share for them using a local login item with an apple script that calls a mount_afp command using a dummy account in open directory so I don't have to use guest access.
Currently, I'm just using POSIX permissions to keep things simple as I've ran into disappearing folders using ACL's with Tiger (anyone else seen this??).
So a few questions:
1) Is this an ok way to do this? Are there better ways?
2) Is it a good idea to have a logout hook to remove the mount directory when each user logs out?
3) Will my dual 1.8 Ghz server with 1.5 GB of RAM and a 200Mb (aggregate) network connection be able to support approx 50 static AFP connections? Thinking about taking the idle time down really low...heard in OSX 10.3+ that when connection is idle it unmounts and when user clicks share it will re-mount it, sort of making it dynamic it sounds like.
I can't download Ikea 3D kitchen planner. It's really frustrating - a message is appearing on my mac book pro that I ned to get info and check that various files are unlocked.I've checked that all other requirements are fulfilled, still won't download.

Now and then, I'll find a file or a folder or a bunch of files and folders from an uninstalled application. Does anyone know of an application that can delete these files that I no longer need?

however it seems that there is a mac edition and a pc edition license for each program.
i was wondering if there is a way where i can pay once and use both versions. or do i have to buy for both versions
I've just used my time machine to migrate my old macbook's contents to my brand new macbook air. While I was watching it restore 803,678 files to the new machine, I was wondering how many of them are unused applications. I've stupidly never set up separate user accounts before this, and I'm sure there are any number of applications that were placed on my old machine by my kids, my husband, and various visitors to our house. Since I'm using time machine instead of starting fresh, I know those have been transferred to the new machine. I've never worried too much about this situation before now, as about every three years I've bought a new machine, migrated the files I need to the new machine, wiped the old one clean, and handed it down to one or the other of my kids.
But now I'm realizing that with time machine, everything on my computer is now forever...everything anyone has ever put on it has been transferred to time machine and now to my new machine. I don't want to be operating with years-old versions of kid's games and apps on every machine I set up from now on for the rest of my life. Is there anything out there that specifically looks for stuff that hasn't been used for a specified number of years and asks something like, "Barney & Friends was installed 1/16/2003 and was last used 10/18/2005. Delete Barney & Friends and all associated files, yes or no?"
I'm looking for an advanced notepad for editing HTML/CSS. I'm also wondering whether there's a notepad that has good note-taking functionality as I'm going to use my MBP at University next year.
I also need a cleaner (CCleaner) type program that will keep my Mac in-tune. I'm wondering whether I actually need to keep it in-tune seeing as it's running probably the best operating system in the world which doesn't have all the crap entailed with it.
I'm going to maybe invest in Photoshop in the distant future but is there something that really has the power of PS in a nutshell? I really can't afford the prices they are charging so I'm wondering whether I can just nudge my way round it all and get another decent editor.

I bought iWorks '09 and downloaded Little Snitch to monitor network activity. The laptop itself comes with iLife '09.
What are other programs I must have, or should get, or just whatever? Freeware or shareware, doesn't matter.
Can anyone recommend a good backup/sync tool with the following features:
Sync 2 folders
Support FTP
Scheduler
Rules (i.e. control over what gets copied)
I've tried Transmit (no scheduler)
Synk (really confusing UI and would freeze when I tried to cancel a sync)
AASync (kept crashing)
I'm looking for a free to-do list app. Anyone know of any? i know the ones that cost money are probably better but I don't feel like spending money at the moment.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using utorrent as my p2p application and was told by a friend that I should be using an IP blocker like PeerBlocker to block certain IP's that track what you are downloading.
He is actually a Windows user and after a quick google search I have found that PeerBlocker is not available to mac users. As a result I have downloaded Peer Guardian and have to say I'm totally confused as to how to use it and what "lists" I need to have setup.

View 15 Replies View RelatedFor many years I have been using Turbo Tax for Windows, and it has been adequate for my needs. When I switched to the Mac I bought a copy of Quicken/Mac to replace my copy of Quicken/Windows. What a disappointment ! The Mac version seems to be about 3 years behind the Windows version.
Having said all that; I am considering Turbo Tax for the Mac with some reservations, based on my Quicken experience. I can afford to be annoyed with the outdated Quicken/Mac, but I cannot use a tax program that might be equally outdated.
Does anyone know of a good minesweeper program for free? I just want something that is like the windows version. I tried the widget but I dont like it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNeed a good zip program for mac. One to make zip files not extract them. And don't say snow leopard already has that built in. That's garbage cuz it makes that extra useless OS_X folder and that's not needed at all. Plus it never works when say making themes for SMF. They never upload correctly. I know cuz it does on my moms windows 7. Already tried YemuZIP for mac. No good either. And if I manually upload the files it works fine. So it has to be the zip program. Any others besides mac or yemu good for making zip files. Preferably free.
