Sep 5, 2010I really wanted to make this topic sticky if possible.
There are many people out here who create a lot of posts asking about what kind of app are good and what do they do ?. There are dozens of videos on youtube on whats in your doc (most of which are outdated).
Honestly I think if people could share what software they have on their macs (both free and payed), with a description of what is does, would help thousands of new mac owners. I looked through the topic on the very top with software recommendations, but it does look a bit dull with only 13 replies that point you to websites where you get bombarded by the insane quantity of software listed there with no proper advice.
I will list my software tomorrow once I get my MBP from repair.

Apr 13, 2007I'm looking for any application that allows you to compile your To-do list, and have it on your desktop..
Google has suggested iCal, but I hardly use that...
And also I don't like the one where its housed on the toolbar (you have to click to view the list)
I like my list apparent so I know what to do (or else I'll pretend I didn't see it and not do..)
Something like Rainlender [URL] for XP...
OS X :: Finding Downloads List?
Dec 27, 2010Awhile back I was messing with some things and now...the atypical/stock downloads icon that sits on the dock got deleted. I tried dragging and dropping the downloads folder there, but that has other downloads info.
I just want that little 2/3"x2/3" (not sure on actual size) window that pops up as you are downloading something. It still pops up when I am downloading, but it isn't on the dock.

Jun 16, 2010The thing is that when I use the card for 3D or gaming it sounds like a taking off airplane. From 0 to 30 seconds the card increases the fan speed/sound. I clean my macpro about 3 or 4 times a year, even my card but, honestly, I have never open the black cover the nvidia has for avoiding a disaster...
Ok I just want to know the best (or at least a better) graphic card. If it is a PC card, how could I make it work in my Macpro...
Hardware :: Finding List Of Speakers That You Can Connect An Airport Express
Aug 2, 2010I have been trying to do some research on a pair of speakers that I can use around the house. Right now, I just have my iMac speakers and some headphones.
Optimally I would like to have a pair of speakers set in the living room that I can automatically wirelessly stream my iTunes music to.
Right now the only ones that I have seen (via this forum and on the web) that I can directly connect an Airport Express to are the AudioEngine A5. I believe with these you literally plug the airport express to the back of them, if I understand them correctly.
Is there a list somewhere of speakers that are Airport Express enabled or can others provide alternatives to the AudioEngine A5?

Sep 4, 2014I was reviewing audio books on my wish list and the list just became empty. I have stopped and restarted iTunes and I have manually re-logged into my apple account but the list keeps coming up empty. I have tried both the shortcut on the top right and from the drop down on the top left but nothing. Is this a temporary issue with Apple..I'm on a Mac running OS10.9.4 and iTunes 11.3.1

Aug 22, 2008I've been a long-time reader on these forums, but the search feature I have not [had a great reason] to register until now. There is plenty of rambling on my reasoning for this, but I'm basically deciding whether or not to get a Mac Pro in the very near future.
One of the biggest questions I have is how much software is currently multi-threaded? I suppose the concern there is, if I spring for the 8-core, will I need to repurchase much of this software for a HUGE performance boost and to utilize the 8 cores outside of multitasking? It feels like the biggest bottleneck is software, currently.

Nov 30, 2010I'm having an issue that I can't figure out. Hopefully someone here will have an idea or two. I need to create a list of specific weekdays with dates from on out. In other words, I need to know the dates of all Sundays and Tuesdays from 12/1/10 to 12/31/12. Ideally, I'd like it do be in an excel or csv format so I could easily manipulate the data. Any ideas on how to do this easily?

Mar 23, 2009I've been learning and customizing Geektool over the weekend and I'm stumped on how to get it to display a to-do list that refreshes for free.
I've read many different websites on how to do this and I'm stumped. I don't really understand code, don't use iCal, and have no idea how to read my terminal info.
I'd like to use Geektool b/c of the customization it offers, but I'd also like to be able to use something where I can simply view my to-do list and it refreshes automatically. The thing is I need something that's free.

Applications :: Adium Contact List Disappeared
May 4, 2008I've been using Adium for the past month or so for IM, and as of the past couple of days, no matter what I do, I can not make the contact list visible. I've tried deactivating and reactivating it via the Window menu, I've tried changing the settings on when it's supposed to appear, and I've even tried reinstalling the application once, but nothing is working. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this, or should I just stick with iChat for now?

Jun 18, 2008I am writing my thesis in Pages 08. I need to have a TOC for all my headlines and I am using the TOC function for that. The problem is that I also want a figure list that updates automatically, TOC style. I can't find ant function for a figure list so I tried to give the figure text a different paragraph style then the regular headlines and then simply add a second TOC showing only that style. Unfortunately that did not work either since Pages only seem to allow one TOC per document.

May 7, 2009I've had a Mac (OS X 10.5.6) for about a year. I "set up" my iChat months ago, and don't remember what I did, but when I open it, a window called "Bonjour List" comes up with my name and picture with a little green video camera beside it. When I click the 'Buddies' drop-down menu, every option is grayed out.. as are almost all of the options on the other drop-down menus. Under the 'iChat' menu, beside Accounts it only says Bonjour.
I don't know what Bonjour is, and don't want to use it on iChat. I'd like to set it up with my AIM account but have no idea how to do so. Is there a way to reset iChat so that it asks me again what account I'd like to use and I can choose AIM? Or any other simple solution? Also.. I just took a screen capture to post here, and have been trying to Draw A Line on it to cover my name for 15 minutes.

May 9, 2009I am using Skype 2.7 on Mac OSX Tiger. I couldn't see any place where I can export the contacts list so that if at any other point, I can import them back if needed. If Apple script is there to achieve this, its much better to maintain it.

Mar 21, 2010I've just been getting into Adium today for the first time and been customising everything but theres 2 things I can't figure out. I've been on Google for the past hour and I still can't find what I'm after.
First off can you hide the menu bar on your contact list? It looks horrible with some themes.
Secondly can you remove the service icons from your contact list? I hate having loads of MSN logos going down my desktop.
If anyone could help me on either of issues i will love you forever.

May 17, 2010I added someone the other day, and now every time I log in it says "XXX@hotmail.com on the local list is inside the group "Friends" but not on the server list. Do you want this buddy to be added?" It doesn't say this on IM+ on my iPod Touch, and the contact doesn't show up until I click add. Is there any reason for this? Is there any way I can permanently add them or something?

So i can copy all the email address, ones i have typed into mail, across to my new setup. I have copied the com.apple.mail.plist and the mail folder/mail downloads into the right places. But i when i type a email it doesn't fill out the address for me.
