Applications :: Download Files And Transport Them To Mac Via A Usb Drive?
May 24, 2005
I cannot hook my iBook directly up to the Internet here in iraq. However, I am able to download files and transport them to my mac via a usb drive.Where can I go to download some icons? I searched for Candybar icons but only got like 4 sites with real crappy icons
I haven't been able to copy files from my downloads folder to Font Book, or more importantly, copy files from my jump drive to a folder on my desktop.I also can't copy images from a CD to my desktop. All instances give the error message window "The operation cant be completed because you dont have permission to access some of the items." I should have permission to copy everything, but I'm wondering if in the case of the fonts, the new Lion OS prevents you from using fonts without a license (even if they're free??) pretty clueless
When I upload a file created in third party apps like Scrivener or Nisus writer on my iMac, I see the file in the finder under iCloud drive in my MacAir, but cannot directly download it. Next to the file name there is a download icon (the same that's used in icloud.com) but clicking on it doesn't do anything. I can't drag the file to my desktop either. I have to go in my browser to icloud.com and download it from there.Â
I thought I can upload and download files just like in Dropbox or Sugarsync, I use both, without having to go the the icloud.com website.Â
I am using the latest version of Yosemite on both machines.
I was trying to download some files using Unison, on the file description it says the files are 103mb but Unison stop at 23MB and tells me that the files are complete. Would anybody know what the problem is here?
I keep running into applications that I can't run because the installer downloads as separate files.
It'll have a file with all sorts of pieces to the program but nothing that brings it together to run it. If there is it's only an autorun- I try the autorun(.inf) and it says there's no application specified to run it.
I have run across these types of applications more times than I can count. Every time I can't find how to make them work, and so I have to give up on them. These programs I download ARE made for Macs, so it's very frustrating- I don't understand. My husband said those types simply can't be run on a mac.
I am running the latest version of Transmission. When I open a torrent and de-select several files (except for one album) the download will not start. It is almost like the tracker will not update.
There are no Seeds, Peers or anything. It says "Time Remaining Unknown"
I have attached the torrent files as TXT files if you are willing to rename the file to a .torrent file.
I am only downloading one album from each of these torrents. Pinkerton, by Weezer and Double Fantasy by John Lennon.
These torrents are healthy. Not sure why this would happen.
I'm downloading different files into excel (some tab delimited, some csv, some xls) from different places and they all open in excel with incredibly weird formatting. Basically the separation of each column makes no sense. When other people download the same exact files, their files appear normally, with each category in a different column. So there's something going on with my excel.
When I download a credit card statement, for example, it comes out like this:
"02/03/2010$18""82USPS 35960795520803QPS NEW YORK XXXXXXXXXXXXXX48(Standard Purch)"
With the quotes showing the columns... so the date and half of the price are in one column and the cents from the price and the vendor and the last four digits in the second column.
When I get an attachment like a word doc, some really small file, I have no problem to download/view it. But in the same mail, if there's one bigger file, powerpoint/zip etc, no matter how many times I tried to save it, view it, download it, I just have no way to do it. I am using Mac OS x.
Every time someone sends me a file, usually jpg, i 'accept' and the file doesn't automatically download. I tried to put it into the pictures file. Where do yahoo messenger file transfers normally save on your Mac?
I am trying to find a site to download some discontinued software - in this case its dvd software called 'Drive-In'. Ive searched google and forums and cant find any info. Perhaps someone also knows a good alternative? Here is some Drive-In details: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=ma...ient=firefox-a
I was wondering if somebody knows which is the best way to download streaming flash videos, I have been using Skysoft itube, but ask for a serial, Videobox doesnt work quite well for me...and keep it it is not working these days..
When I try to download something from download.com or other websites, it just goes to a blank page and the download never happen, I open the download tab and saw it was blank.
this really frustrating, its the same on Safari and mozilla on my Mac.
When I attempt to download a .wmv file, it appears to download (as evidenced in download manager) but then stalls forever and never finishes the job. I can download other media files without problem. I have updated WMP. Im on G4 PB 10.4.3.
I am trying to download MAC OSX 10.5 that I just purchased and my hard drive on the computer won't show up as a destination drive to download the software on. I erased the disk figuring that would help but it did not. Any ideas as to what the problem is .The computer is a PowerMac G5 1.8 mhz, 1GB RAM, 160MB HD.
So a while ago i installed iGetter and jDownloader to handle some of my downloading needs. These have both been uninstalled a while ago and i seem to have the problem that if i navigate to a file in my browser it will not download, it just sits there and does nothing. This is really anoyying as i can't download any files anymore
I presume one of these applications has disabled this behaviour in os x so that it can hijack it and use the app to download files. Does anybody know how to revert this so that browsers can handle downloads properly?
I've been having trouble downloading files from an ftp server (URL) on Finder and while it does fully download eventually, it takes a while and if I click the x to stop it, the download won't stop. Is this a known problem with Finder, is it a glitch, or is it my internet connection.
Ok so i just got a mac and this is the first time im ever using one, I love it btw, but i cant download .zip files from various things every time I try and download a .zip file this message comes up
I have the latest version of iTunes. I used to store my itunes music on an 80gb firewire drive. Got a new 500gb usb drive. transferred all files manually to this new drive. in iTunes i changed my media folder to this new drive. However alot of files aren't being read or found so i must locate each manually. Is there anything I can do to make iTunes read from the new hard drive now?
I just recieved an external hard drive for Christmas, and so far have only put my videos and some other folders on the drive. I would like to put my itunes library on there, but have NO idea how to go about doing this.
I have an ipod (8g) and want to be able to still sync and not lose any of my songs during transfer. I actually have more APPS than I do music, but I just want to move all those files to the external drive to clear up space on my mac (Powerbook G4, 10.4.11).
I recently bought a 160GB external hard drive, and decided to transfer my iTunes music to it. I followed the instructions in the Help section of the iTunes program. The first time, I mistakenly created an empty "iTunes" folder and put an "iTunes music" folder inside, where i proceeded to copy the files. I had already set the defult location of the library to my F: drive, my external hard drive. However, the original location of the files stayed in iTunes. Again, following the advice of the iTunes program, I deleted the original folders, and I dragged the new iTunes music folder into the window - at which point i had TWO copies of each file - the first one with an exclamation beside it (original file missing) and the second being my new copies.
I work in a cross platform environment (windows/mac) where we typically save common files to a shared network drive. I've found when I save a file directly from excel (as opposed to saving it locally, then copying it over) it created an invisible ._filename file in the same directory. I know it's a property/resource file for the file that I just created, but it's a little confusing for some windows users and just clutters up the share directory. Is there any way to prevent the creation of the ._filename file while still saving directly from excel?
(I'd prefer not to save locally, then move to network drive - it's cleaner for me if I can just save directly) So far, I've found that this only happens with MS Office. I've opened a sql file in textwrangler and komodo, edited it, and saved it to the network and no invisible files are created.
NOTE: this is different the the fix that apple had published regarding not creating DS_Store files - that refers to copying files from the finder to a network drive and I don't have any problems with that.
I have a WD external hard drive that I got for the holiday's last year. Here lately I've been using it as my iTunes library. A great way to free up some space on my Powerbook g4. Question is, why does iTunes keep changing my library folder after I'd already changed it when I initially set up the hard drive as my iTunes library destination?
Another question is how do I make sure that all my music files automatically go to the folder on the external hard drive when I download music. For example I may snag a free song from a website and will double click it after downloading and it plays in itunes. I want that file to be saved on my external hard drive as well (yes it's plugged up and plugged in).
I only have an 8g ipod so I have to constantly check and uncheck songs that I want to hear, so I want to be sure they are all in the same locale. And one way I know that certain files are on my internal and not external is when i unplug my external those files still play when they shouldn't unless it's plugged up.
I bought a new 500GB WD hard drive for my Late 2008 MacBook to upgrade from my 250GB drive. I have a hard drive enclosure, but I was wondering if when I install my 500GB hard drive, would I be able to use the enclosure to transfer files from my 250GB drive? I hope this was specific enough to get a clear response. If not, I'll try re-wording my question.
