When I get an attachment like a word doc, some really small file, I have no problem to download/view it. But in the same mail, if there's one bigger file, powerpoint/zip etc, no matter how many times I tried to save it, view it, download it, I just have no way to do it. I am using Mac OS x.
View 4 RepliesI'm happily using my new 24" iMac, but I've run across a little problem this evening. I was trying to send a 225mb file as a mail attachment through my Gmail account using Mail. When I go to send the file, Mail crashes and disappears. This happened a couple times, so I logged directly into Gmail and sent the file through the web browser. Now the system is hung up 'sending' in the Gmail browser, and Finder has become very sluggish (slow response to clicks, errors printing, etc). Can the iMac and/or Mail handle sending files of this size?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I use nzbdrop to download large files, my late 2008 MBP fans go nuts (4500rpm or more). As soon as the donwload is finished, they ramp down again. I find this very strange, it's not that downloading is that taxing on the cpu is it (temp is around 80?C).
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I tried to send a Quicktime movie that I made with iMovie as an attachment to an email. I knew something was wrong when it kept "sending" for hours. I could not get it to stop, no matter what I tried. I used Force Quit on Mail: no effect on the spinning circles. I shut the computer down and then restarted. Signed into Mail--> still had spinning circles. I took the mailboxes offline and then put them back online: spinning circles remained.
I deleted all of the outgoing messages several times, but whenever I came back, they reappeared. I shut off my computer overnight. This morning the spinning circles are gone, and a static circle remains, and I am unable to send or receive email. What can I do? I have four Mac mail accounts and they all have important information in them. How can I unfreeze my mail? BTW, the gmail accounts that go to the mac account are ok--it is just the "@mac.com" accounts that are frozen. I cannot find this in a search.
I also trashed the Adobe Reader Internet Plug-in in the Library. I still can't open some pdf files (e.g., bank monthly statements). A window opens showing the statement (which should be pdf), but when I try to save: File>Save, I get a window that opens that includes: "Export As: Statement. html" and "Format: Page Source." The Format selection feature opens a pulldown menu that allows "Web Archeive" as the only other choice. Is there anything else here that I need to delete? How is it that I can still download some pdf files, view them, and save them? This problem is happening on the monthly statements for a couple of financial institutions and not others!

I cannot view the attachment file received through Mail in my Mac but it is there, I can view it in my iPad and iPhone. Also the expanded header says there's an attachment. And the size says so.

When I drag and drop attachments to the Mail, its snap all over the place. PDF will be automatically open, whereas spread sheet, doc and email will be shown in icon. Some before my text, some in between my signature, some right below etc. Its all over. Its there a way to let Mail auto display in a more organized manner before I press the send button?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a numbers document that's just over 3000 rows and 11 columns. Searching, and certain functions are quite slow - not impossible, but frustrating. It's been years since I worked with Excel on a PC, but it was never this sluggish... Using this file, I did a mail merge with a Pages document. The merge took over an hour (this too seems slow, but since I only do it once, whatever). The resulting file is 1.1MB and just over 3000 pages. It was nearly impossible to scroll/review anything in the document. After closing it, Pages crashes upon trying to reopen the document. I got it opened on another MBP, but it's impossibly slow over there too.
It's looking like iWork is not able to handle large projects. I'm posting here in hopes that there's some magical fix that will make it work like Office (did I just say that?) The system is 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo MBP, 3GB RAM, Snow Leopard, all updated and permissions repaired this morning.
Me and my sister are looking for a way to swap files, between our Macs, over the Net.
I have no idea about FTP or Transmit and I'm not sure what our best method or app should be?

My sister has two boys and a little girl. Shortly after buying our respective Macs, I bought an HD camcorder and my sister bought a very good DSLR. So I have lots of HD videos made with iMovie for her and she has tons of pics to send me. We both have our own back-ups of course but neither is proof against fire or theft to be honest. I know we could swap them on a large USB stick or a portable drive but we don't always see each other and she's very busy.
If in aperture i have a folder/album with say 60GB of pics in (from one event, RAW pics). Then i have say 10 labelled with 5*.
If i load the folder only showing 5* pics, will it load immanently, or will it have to scan through all 60GB to find the *ed pictures.
At the moment, using Adobe Bridge on my old PC, it takes ages (hence why i separate them into 2 folders once sorted). I was hoping that aperture would just load the *ed ones if you tell it to and not have to look through all the files each time. (Bridge loads them, then sorts them).
Also, about stacks. i take lots of time lapses (frame by frame) so i end up with lots of similar pictures. If i had a stack with a few thousand pictures in, would aperture handle this well? If i had an album with 3 stacks in, each with 5000 pics in, will the album load quick, and only when i open a stack it take longer to load.
I have an access log that I need to read and it is 3GB in size. Any application that can read that? Maybe Hex Edit.

I'm having a problem with Apple Mail. It won't let me open .doc attachments in a compose window, yet I can open .docx attachments without issue. For example, when I compose a new message and attach a document, I like to double click the attachment within the message to confirm that I'm sending the right file to my client.
With 10.5, this wasn't an issue. Everything opened as expected. But with 10.6, I get an error message that says "Mail was unable to save the attachment "file_name" to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writable." Again, this is ONLY happening with .doc files and it happens no matter which account in Mail I choose to send from.
Normally when I opened an email that had an attachment (like my paystub pdf), there was a down arrow under the header line in the upper right corner that allowed me to download the attachment. Suddenly it is gone - and gone on all my past emails that I have done this with.Â
Where this would suddenly go??

I have an older MBP (2.2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD) and am having problems with PDF files. Well, I guess it would be better described as annoyances with PDF files. I use Adobe Reader and the lag when scrolling is unbearable. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Can anyone suggest alternate programs that may remedy my problem.

Recently I added more pictures to iphoto, importing them from my camera, and when I tried to view there files, the originals on the passport hard drive, they weren't there. I went into iphoto and clicked on one of the photos and went to show file and it took me to volumes coming from the mac HD but it showed the iphoto library with all the originals. I'm confused where the volumes folder is located and how iphoto put all my photos there and not on my passport. What I should do to put all the photo folders in the same spot on my passport HD?

I haven't touched them, as I read on another forum that it could be dangerous but is there anything I can do to get rid of them? I'm using a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo imac with 3GB memory running OS 10.5.8. I've been using mac mail at home, work and on the move for years and have only ever had a couple of minor problems with it. However last Friday, after using it normally in the office, I went out, leaving the machine to sleep. When I came back my mail wouldn't download past message number 7 and it said there were 400+ emails to download when it should have been maximum 10. I tried to shut down mail but every time I tried to shut it down it wouldn't shut down.
I had to 'force quit' even though 'force quit' didn't say 'not responding' alongside mail. When I reopened mail the number of 'new' messages dropped to only 170 odd, but still I can't get past the 10th email and the download speed goes to zero. Also I can't delete some existing messages in my inbox. They go light grey but don't delete. I am able to use mail as normal on my home mac which uses mail with the same account settings as my office mac. I can also access my emails via my iPhone and webmail.
I have a Canon Powershot digital video camera. I've take a large video clip - not sure how long exactly as I just let it run during my kids school play. I've got an 8GB chip in. I now can't download the clip using either iPhoto or the software that came with the camera.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to locate an attachment file from a recently deleted message. The message is no longer in my trash, so I can't access the file through Mail. In the past, there was usually an archived copy somewhere on my hard drive, but it seems to have moved in my most recent update of Mac OSX. It used to be in the Library folder in my user folder, but now there is no Library folder in that location. Where do I find these files?
