Applications :: Can I Transfer Everything From A Wrecked Old One
Jul 3, 2010
today i bought a new mac mini.
i have had a mac mini for the past 8 months now, and of course its filled with information.
i never did a time machine backup and the old one is wrecked (that's why i bought a new one).
my question is:
can i use time machine to backup my old HD (which is now connected trough an external enclosure, and transfer the image to the new one?
I downloaded OS X 10.7.4 update and my entire airport network became dreadfully slow. I've been using my iMac as a basestation and my ibooks could find it easily...not anymore...they can find it but the connection works very slow if not at all..
I want to make sure I'm doing it right so I dont loose my library!
I've got a new mac and I want to transfer my library from my old mac. Is it just a case of copying the iTunes music folder onto an external drive and then pasting them into the new mac?
A simple problem I'm sure, but could someone help me with why the Japanese kanji doesn't transfer. It comes out as gobbledygook, whereas numbers and alphabet letters are fine.
Both machines are set to vCard type 3.0 and MAC OS Roman type. The 10.4 sends to 10.5 OK, but not vice-versa.
I have a project already started in iDVD. When I try to add a movie to it, it says that my iMovie project can not be used yet because it hasn't been prepared for sharing. It tells me to go to iMovie - Share - Media Browser. When I do that and try to click on Share, nothing is available to be used.
I just purchased Final Cut Express 4.0 and hooked my new Canon Vixia HG20 up to the computer, only to have it NOT log and transfer the clips! I am so frustrated! I have tried the easy set-up and tried all of the Apple Codec settings. I read somewhere that you need to upgrade to 4.0.1, but I can't seem to find anywhere to do this and it is not coming up in my Software Update menu. When I did my homework to try and find an editing program that would be compatible with my camera, FCE 4 kept coming up and no one was seeming to have any trouble, so I am guessing it is some kind of setting that I am overlooking. Can anyone shed some light on this annoying little problem?
I just got a new macbook pro and have been using Mail with it for a while now. What I want to do is transfer my inbox messages from Mail on an old macbook into the inbox of Mail on my new MBP. Is there anyway to do this and still keep the new emails that Mail has collected on my MBP?
My cousin is trying to move her library from her desktop PC to her laptop PC. She used the itunes backup tool to transfer her library. She authorized her laptop to play her itunes store music and videos, but if she tries to play one of those protected files on the laptop it says she is not authorized to play it.
I'm a bit scared of messing something up with code edits and I'm hoping there's a way to do a clean input. Googling around, it doesn't look like there is? I need to transfer everything from Thunderbird (PC) to Mail (Mac).
I'm trying to transfer my applications, along with my music, to my macbook. I have my iMac backed up via time machine on an external drive. I hooked up my macbook to the external and ran migration assistant. I tried to transfer the applications, but it said - "create a new acct..existing user account is the same"
naturally, i use the same name for both my imac and macbook. so i changed the user name and account to my imac and my imac. so what is going to happen if i transfer this? does it create a new user account on my macbook with these programs or what? i dont understand what the issue with accounts is with migration assistant, seems like it would be easy if i could just transfer photo folder, etc without having to create different name. also when i transfer applications does it transfer all the info, preferences, etc?
My iphone is now linked to my PC iTunes but i wanna get rid of the PC and I want to transfer everything including the itunes account (if there's such thing) to my Macbook iTunes w/c by the way, doesn't have an account yet. How do i do this?
I'm graduating college and I want to pass on an iWeb project I've maintained to a member of my group who will still be at school next year. What's the best way to do this? Is there one specific file I can give my friend that he can use in his version of iWeb?
Ok so in the future I plan to upgrade my Mac Mini to an SSD. I have two questions.
1. Can I take out my stock hard drive and place it in a Firewire 800 enclosure and use Migration Assistant? 2. Does Migration Assistant transfer my Applications?
I am trying to transfer my applications from my emac 10.2.8 os to my new iMac w/Snow Leopard OS. I have transferred the HD by way of Migration Assistant and firewire cable to the iMac. Whenever I try to open an application such as IPhoto from the HD icon I get "you cannot use this version of iphoto with the Imac version" or something to that effect. I have Iphoto 2.0.1. It is similar with other applications.
I have a mac book pro system 10.5.8 I life 09 I noticed your post and thought you might know what to do? I created another iPhoto library on my external hard drive. With photos from 2007-2008 Deleted them from the main iPhoto. Then in 2008 I carbon copied my computer to the external hard drive. I ended up with 3 iPhoto libraries. I wanted to only have one on the external hard drive and today after not enough research I drug the iphoto icon on top of the one in the user folder on to the iphoto icon. The photos are not showing up in my iphoto library when I open the iphoto on the external HD. I do a rt click and open the iphoto package and the photos are all there with all information How do I get them to show up when I open the external hard drive or am I fried?
I had a drive go bad on my G5 desktop. Luckily I am all backed up on my G4 LAPTOP. I put a new drive in the G5 & installed OS 10.5 (the G4 lap runs 10.4) and installed the apps from the original discs onto the new G5 drive. However, I am missing my Photoshop CS2 disc. My question is, how do I transfer Photoshop CS 2 from my laptop to the new G5 drive? I don't want to buy another $200 CS2 app.
i have microsoft office on my old white macbook, since i just ordered a new macbook pro 2010, i would like to transfer the office over to my new macbook. I know theres 3 valid cd key but the other 2 are given to my baby sis to use. So is there anyway to "deactivate" the product key in my old macbook and activate it in my new macbook?
I maintain three websites in iWeb on my MacBook.I want to transfer one of these sites to another Mac, as someone else will be maintaining it. How can I do this?
I have been looking for a way to transfer outlook to entourage but all i get is some wierd method which is never really clear. I tried searching the mroogle forums but it was all a bit old.
I have Photoshop CS3 installed on my Macbook 13", but it's beginning to lag (old model) and I've now got a 27" iMac. Is there any way I can transfer the app from the old computer to the newer one?
I did migration assistant when I first bought the iMac, but for some reason Photoshop wasn't transferred (although a number of other Adobe apps were so I don't know why that should be). Either way, I'm well beyond repeating the whole thing. I just need transfer advice for this single program.
I have my iMac with 10.4 on it. and i have my macbook air with 10.6.. I recently wiped the drive and reinstalled 10.6 on the macbook air, and since i lost my install cds, i bought the upgrade version for 30 bucks. Now i dont have iLife on my macbook.. I tried at least getting the old version from my iMacs install discs, but they wont work on the macbook for some reason. All i really need is Garageband.. Where could i get this (even an older version) cheap or free without having to pay for the whole iLife software? (or how to transfer from my iMac, which files do i need to transfer etc)
I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive
So I just rented an episode of Top Gear on my Macbook Pro.
Then I plugged in my iPad so I could transfer the file from the computer to the iPad - want to watch on a plane ride.
But I don't see any option anywhere to transfer?
I've done this previously with movies. I just clicked on the Movies tab for my iPad and moved it over. But I can't find any mention of Rentals anywhere in the iPad tabs.
Is it possible to drag and drop my iTunes music folder from an external drive directly to a windows laptop (if no, why exactly)? Or do I have to go threw a specific transfer process with the mac? I just want the music files, and album artwork. I have podcasts but I assume there associated with my account so they will just redownload.
So I have two iTunes "accounts" because I have an old AOL account - that Apple won't allow me to merge or combine. It is a complete pain - and so I need to find a way of getting some of my purchases from one account onto the other.
I assume the easiest way for songs is just to burn my purchased songs onto a CD then re- import them onto the regular account?
is available for download here: [URL] with 10.5 (Leo) supported. Integration into iTunes and iPhoto makes it really easy to sync your music , pictures and videos with nokia phones with automatic enconding if needed via Bluetooth or USB
