Applications :: Difference Between Safari Extension And Bookmarklet?
Jun 9, 2010
Many of the extensions I've seen (Share to Facebook, Instasafari, etc.,) already have existing bookmarklets. What's the difference between a bookmarklet and an extension? It seems like the bookmarklet would be better resource-wise because it's only used when it's needed whereas an extension (I guess?) runs with the browser itself.
Is there a directory of Safai addons/extension available like Firefox has built in? One specific I am looking for is Fireshot like addon for safari but looking for others as well.
Is there a Safari extension for picking the default quality YouTube uses upon page loading? I always get the lowest resolution video even though 1080 works fine on my connection.
I've been interested in a Safari application/extension for improved Bookmarks management. Features I'm interested in are alphabetization, eliminating duplicates, and improved organization. Has anyone found such an item?
I was using an extension called 'yaysyoutube' to set the default quality on YouTube to the highest possible res, but the latest nighties of Webkit have totally broken it. Does anyone know of any alternatives?
I'm trying to transition to Firefox in lieu of Safari but I CANNOT STAND THE SCROLLING BEHAVIORS in Firefox. They suck so bad.Could anyone here please recommend an extension for firefox that paralells the Safari scrolling behaviors exactly?
We've seen quite a few extensions since tuesday, but not ONE attempt at a keyword extension. Is it just not possible with the current API? If so, I would like to know so I can stop searching for one and try to get keywurl working instead.
Is there a safari extension that auto saves sessions? Automatically gives you all your past tabs back on your next launch. Such a simple thing, where is it?
Safari extension to enable full screen browsing? I tried to look for one, but couldn't find anything. This seems like it would be the perfect application of Safari extensions.
this is driving me nuts. I drag images out of the safari browser all the time. Now with beta 4, it adds a .JPEG extension, even after the original .JPG extension of the original images. So if I drag "mactv.jpg" out of the browser to the desktop, I get "mactv.jpg.jpeg" on my freakin' desktop.
First Safari extensions weren't showing up.I was able to get the extensions tab back, but found the privacy tab won't display. I unknowingly jacked another thread, as I'm new at this, so now am posting my own. I'm running Safari 5.1.5 on OSX Lion, MacBook Pro 2009.

Safari downloads .wav files from my dictation manager web site with a .exe extension. I'm assuming this has something to do with the MIME types defined on that page. I can't fix that as the web page is not under my control. Is there a way I can tell Safari not to do that, or how to handle these files?

Some time ago I installed WebWatch the Safari extension. I hate it. It won't stop popping up. I don't see where you can change the time you want it to come up and definitely don't see how to uninstall it.
I had downloaded a great add-on for Safari sometime ago that let you set the default to full screen view, among other things of course. It began with a G and I cant remember the name of it.
I looked on the before and still ahven't found anything on it, so I guess I'll just ask.Â
I've been wanting to use Safari 5 as my familys default browser for sometime but the one thing that seems to bug my mother and others is how Safari handles autofill <--- don't know if that's right.Â
You see they like how in Chrome you just click on an empty text filed and anything that has been typed there before will just pop up on a drop down list under the text filed box it's self with they're options.Â
I just wanted to know if there might be an extention that gives Safari this feature?

A couple weeks ago, I attempted to download an extension for Safari (unfortunately, I can't remember the name), and there wasn't any indication that it was being downloaded. Upon quitting Safari immediately afterward, when I opened up Safari's preference window, I noticed that some of the preference icons were missing. How to restore these icons?
I could do it individually, but I am wondering and hoping there is an easier way. I have a bunch of .docx, .pptx, and .pdf files that need the extension after them.
Is there a search extension out there that will display the first result from each of your installed search engines as you type? For example, says I type "Adam" and I have google, facebook, IMDB, and Wikipedia as my search engins; the extension would display the first result from google, facebook, etc in the window that pops up as you type. Then if I hit return (without clicking anything that pops up) it would take me to my default search (google).
Today I noticed that there is really lots of color difference when I look at an image on the web when i use firefox in comparison with firefox. For example the red collors are really really bright on firefox but in safari they look not bright at all. Actually safari is more accurate. How to fix color when using firefox (my main browser) are there like certain setting you guys recommend?
is there an app that can do this but only change the file extesion case & not the rest of the file name.ie; Sossity_1234.JPG to Sossity_1234.jpgalot of apps will go from;Sossity_1234.JPG to sossity_1234.jpg, they will change everything to lower case, & I only want the file extension to be lower case.
I used Ripit to rip a DVD (Dark Knight, for the curious) onto my Mac. Fine. But it rips with this ridiculous '.dvdmedia' extension that isn't compatible with anything but DVD Player. I really wanted to put it into GarageBand or iMovie HD and fiddle around with it to make music videos. I know I could use Get Info to change the extension, but I'm not sure what's really the best format for iMovie HD either. And yes, I know there's a million better rippers for Mac, but Handbrake confuses me, Handbrake Lite and Aimersoft just kind of freeze, and MacTheRipper just sort of scans for the rest of eternity even with VLC in my applications drive?
I am trying to download an application on my MacBook Pro using Mozilla Firefox. I am getting the message "Unable to read the dictionary of the application or extension because it is not scriptable." The extension on the app is .exe
i just basically screwed it up. When i started writing it i first saved in .odt and later i saved it in .txt and unicode format. I thought everything's gonna be fine so i deleted the .odt files and had cleared the trash bin but that's where the nightmare began.
I went to the printing shop to get the essays to be printed but their windows computer couldn't "read" the chinese characters and it all turns out as "?" sign. I thought it was only a windows problem but when i went back to open it in my MBP, it's all "?" too. So i quickly installed a data recover program and i am just praying that i can recover the .odt files I would be dead if my essays are totally lost. Anyway, the question is: What extension is best to save a Chinese word document? AND, I just deleted the .odt files yesterday, do you think there's still a chance for it to be recovered?
I've transitioned back to Safari (from Firefox) now that extensions are available since it's so much faster and more stable (for me anyway). I finding having to click 3 times to select the entire address bar frustrating; is there an extension (or plist "hack") to change this behavior such that one click selects everything?
