Applications :: Instant Messaging Client For Mac & Windows?
Jan 11, 2010I'm looking for a free IM client that will work for Mac and Windows across the local network so that I can be contacted by others in my business/household without physical interruption. Is there any such IM client out there?
Or if there's a way to configure one of the others out there to only work on the LAN that would work too.

Aug 23, 2009With my new job I have to instant message clients on a variety of platforms, aim, google, msn, yahoo, ichat (mobileme), icq, and myspace.
I have looked at ichat and like it but it doesn't work with many of the above services. Also, I have seen some clients that may work with msn but chat only, not video. I want to be able to use video whenever possible.
What are some good mac instant messaging clients that I should look at?

May 25, 2009Okay, so I have an intel Mac (Macbook)... and I use Crossover, so I can run Wind0ze apps such as Digsby. I am trying to find something to use for Twitter, Facebook, Blogger (definitely those).
I have Adium for IMing for myspace, facebook, yahoo, msn, aim, etc
and Digsby (and with Digsby, Facebook - not the IM part, but the social networking part doesn't work)...

Applications :: Cannot Receive Instant Messages With MSN For Mac
Oct 26, 2009I downloaded MSN for mac, months ago and everything was working fine. Now, I am having problems receiving instant messages from some of my msn contacts. It seems to happen with people with email addresses ending in [URL]. I send them a message and it says "so and so is typing a message" but nothing gets through, my chat window remains blank. I do not understand what is wrong as it is happening with people I used to speak with before and there were no problems, except they just cant contact me through msn now. They are not receiving any error messages and can get all my messages fine. I am using microsoft messenger for mac V7.0.2 and its on a Macbook Pro using OSX 10.5.6.
I do not have and do not use a .mac address, I use my [URL] address for everything
It wouldn't normally annoy me, but I have to use msn to speak with clients from overseas, and its already cost me project time and people also thought I was ignoring them. It has also botched up a date

Jul 29, 2008As much as I love the tight integration of Spotlight, I miss one feature: I want to immediately have a look at the document that is found and be able to locate the search terms within (going from one place to the next). I am using Copernic Desktop Search on my PC and it immediately provides a preview of the search term in the document. Is there a similar free program for the Mac? I found Foxtrot, but it is 29$ just for the Personal Edition [URL:..]

- Mercury Messenger
- aMSN
- Microsoft Messenger (newest version)
These all claim to have the ability of video chat and using the webcam, however, none so far have done so and every time I have tried it has failed or cancelled and can't connect.
I would like to know if I'm doing something wrong, I have gone through all the preferences and sorted everything that I think is right.

Jun 27, 2014I set up parental controls on my daughters MacBook Pro running Mavericks limiting Messaging to only a few select people and their email accounts. When I logged into her desktop to test it, I opened Messaging and typed in my cell phone number, which is not on the "allowed contact list" and the message was delivered. I only want her to be able to message people on the "allowed list".

It's called Versions, and it's still in beta, but it seems really stable, and it's one of the best SVN clients I've ever used. I have no affiliation with the company or product at all, so this isn't a plug. I've just been using it constantly to manage some Xcode projects and a few other important documents between Macs, and I thought I'd share.

Nov 3, 2010So I was using the older CISCO VPN client and now need the CISCO Anyconnect client as well. Anyconnect would not install, it kept telling me that there was already a newer version installed already? So I thought maybe it was the older CISCO VPN client (that I will also need later) so I used APpZapper to remove it. I am still getting that error message when the installer gets to the disk selection screen.
Has anyone seen this before? I have no clue where to go from here.

Jan 7, 2011I've been using Mail.app for my gmail accounts for quite a while now - but it seems that Mail just isn't designed for gmail. For example - when I search for a message, each message will appear two or more times (located in Inbox & All Mail, not inc. any labels), archiving messages isn't exactly easy, and deleting messages doesn't quite.. delete messages.
Is there a way to make Mail.app more friendlier towards Gmail accounts or is there a better client for Mac for Gmail accounts?

Oct 31, 2008I have a shiny new macbook and i need a good software phone that supports either SIP or IAX (prefer both) is reliable and can record calls. It would also be nice if it has support for G729.
So far I've found ZoIPer Business, which will set me back 36GBP($58 USD). I'm a bit wary of purchasing it, as I've used ZoIPer FREE and it seems to crash sometimes (i.e. it wont cleanly exit)
I've also tried X-Lite although this also seems very buggy and havent been able to make a successful call.
Is there something someone can recommend that they've used? or should i shutup and buy ZoIPer & not complain about the price?
