Jan 7, 2010Mine has been "initializing" for 3 days now. Website says they are having Network problems. This is an unusually long time. Anyone know if there is a bigger issue?

Oct 29, 2007My original "home" hard drive in my G5 died and I'm in the process of attempting to replace it, and I figured I would install Leopard as long as I was at it.I purchased a 500GB Maxtor MaXLine Pro Enterprise 7200RPM 16MB Cache SATA I/II 3.0G hard drive and installed it, no problem. However, when attempting to install Leopard, the installation DVD doesn't see it as a volume.I'm thinking I have to initialize my new hard drive first, but since I have no other internal drive available (the old one is dead), I can't launch Disk Utility to do this.I have Tech Tools Pro, but it doesn't appear to come with a tool to initialize a drive.
I tried booting up using the AppleCare CD to see if that had a tool on it, but the computer wouldn't boot up with it (although it did boot up with Tech Tools Pro).Is there another tool I need to be able to boot up from the CD-ROM and perform an initialization on my new hard drive?

May 23, 2008I recently installed a Samsung DVD Burner with LightScribe. It's pretty Cool.
Except, this funky eject menu appeared. I already knew I could just use Option + Eject to open and close the bottom drive.
So my question is: How can I simplify that long string of nonsense so it just says "Open Lower Drive" or just get rid of that Eject Menu all together?

May 7, 2009My firefox is all up to date. Within the last few days, firefox has been running very slow for me. Whenever I click or do anything, it takes a while to respond. Very frustrating. This is happening on my iMac. My girlfriend's parents are having the same issue with Firefox in Windows. I am trying to move all my bookmarks to Safari, but when I highlight multiple bookmarks to drag and drop, it only copies one of them. Anyone know how to fix the slowness or the dragging bookmarks??

Apr 27, 2007If I have an event, starting on Friday, going on Saturday and and finishing Sunday, is it not possible to get this to show in the month view? I know it shows up in the weekly view, but it would be more helpful for me to have it up show up like this so I can get an overview of the month's forthcoming events. i use 1 external tb to back up everything
i back up about 725 gb if stuff and when i go to run my TM it tells me i only have 150 or so GB of space to back up the aforementioned 725gb.
Maybe i misunderstood TM, but cant i back up multiple days without using the same size of backup? i.e. i back up january 1st, december 1st and november 1st and it wont need 2.175 TB of space?
ITunes :: Media Folder Location Moved - Deleted All Media?
Apr 24, 2012I recently changed the iTunes Media Folder default location to a different area on my drive. I waited a couple minutes and the files did not move. I was unaware you had to go into your settings and also select to consolodate files. Since the files didn't move I reselected my default location and kept trying to go back and forth a couple times. After letting it sit for a couple more minutes I noticed over 200 GB's of files were missing. I looked in each folder I tried to change the default Media Folder location to but they were not in either of them. I have also ran multiple system file recover programs and been unable to find them.

Sep 29, 2010My collection of iTunes music and movies has outgrown my internal hardrive. So I uncheck Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library. What does not make sense to me however is the check box above. "keep itunes media folder organized". This really confuses me because if I am not moving the files into the media libary why would it want to rearrange the files? So does that mean for example that on my external hardrive its going to move the original source files?

Jan 18, 2009I used Ripit to rip a DVD (Dark Knight, for the curious) onto my Mac. Fine. But it rips with this ridiculous '.dvdmedia' extension that isn't compatible with anything but DVD Player. I really wanted to put it into GarageBand or iMovie HD and fiddle around with it to make music videos. I know I could use Get Info to change the extension, but I'm not sure what's really the best format for iMovie HD either. And yes, I know there's a million better rippers for Mac, but Handbrake confuses me, Handbrake Lite and Aimersoft just kind of freeze, and MacTheRipper just sort of scans for the rest of eternity even with VLC in my applications drive?

Sep 23, 2009I just noticed that instead of the normal iTunes folder structure in my home dir of Music/iTunes/iTunes Music now the iTunes Music folder as well as the Mobile Applications folder have been copied into a new folder called iTunes Media. Is this something to do with iTunes 9 or Snow Leopard. Also what folders are safe for me to delete? Because everything has been duplicated I am wasting about 30gb of my hard drive and I'd like the space back.

Oct 29, 2009I can upload and view new photos just fine into iPhoto. However, when I use any application that requires opening/inserting/uploading a file (I've tried Firefox, Safari, Flickr Uploadr, Pages etc.) the new events do not appear when clicking on Media > Photos.

Dec 26, 2010I'm trying to turn an old Windows machine into a media server and file server, but not sure which Windows apps are Mac compatible. This is sort of hit and miss to post here, as it mainly involves looking for Windows applications, but the mac would be using them so it's sort of suitable.
I have setup a DLNA server for PS3 already which is working correctly. I've setup a UPNP server called Air Video for use with media for the iPhone and iPad.
I tried to setup an FTP server for use with files from both machines but the mac would not connect to it. It kept saying the login was wrong but it was right. I also setup a VNC server which the iphone using iTeleport could connect to but the Mac just would not connect.
So the main question is: Is there a FTP and VNC server for Windows which works 100% with a Mac as the client? After these two are working the server is completed.

Feb 5, 2009When I have an Iphone or Ipod attached to the computer and showing up in Itunes, I was just wondering how to drag and drop movies or music directly to the media device, without first dragging it into the Itunes media library or into a playlist. I used to be able to do this. Since then, I must have updated Itunes or reinstalled it or something. But now I can't drag and drop anything directly onto the media player. I can't create new playlists directly on the media player either (I have to open them under "Playlists" and then checkmark them to be synched. I'm assuming there must be some sort of simple setting in the options that I've changed.

I like to watch divx videos on stagevu but i dont like to use divxs player because it seems buggy.
