Applications :: How To Prevent Aperture 3 From Importing Video

Nov 9, 2010

By default aperture wants to import all my photos and MOV files into aperture. By default imovie wants to import all AVCDH lite files from my panasonic LX5 into imovie. I want to import my photos into Aperture and my videos into imovie. Currently I am doing the following:

1. import photos only into aperture by deselecting all MOV files and hitting apply.
2. import MOV files into aperture by deselecting JPGs, selecting a different directory for my movies and hitting apply.
3. in imovie import MOV files directly from hard drive

I wish there was a way to force aperture to only touch raw/jpg and imovie to handle MOV/AVCHD lite.

Applications :: IPhoto 9 Quit While Importing Pictures

Jan 31, 2009

My new iPhoto '09 is quitting after downloading about 5/five/pictures from desktop or folder or other files. The number of photos in the folder is about 80. I did try not to use import cmd. and just slide few /8/ from desktop into iPhoto - is not taking - quitting after download of 3. Was no problem with download of original software. Was no problem with iPhoto '08 ever. My next step will be to uninstall whole iPhoto'09 and download again from the disc, but I am hoping for shorter solution.

Applications :: Can You Stop IPhoto From Importing Videos

Mar 29, 2010

I'm running iPhoto '06 right now and I don't want it to import videos, since it never can tell that they're duplicates and thus I end up with many copies of the same thing (which is difficult to clean up, since I have to go into Finder to do it). So I have two questions:

1) Can you stop iPhoto '06 from importing videos entirely?

2) If I upgraded to iPhoto '09, would that fix the problem? As in, will it either be able to recognize duplicate videos, or allow me to stop video importing?

Applications :: IPhoto Not Recognizing / Importing My Photos?

Aug 6, 2010

I can't import my photos from my iPhone using iPhoto. I used to plug in my iPhone and iPhoto would open up automatically and ask me if I wanted to import my photos, but now it won't do that anymore. So, I open it manually and sometimes my iPhone shows up in the program, but now it doesn't even show up anymore. It showed up yesterday but it said I had no photos on my iPhone, (which is wrong being I have over 300 ready to import).

I tried updating iPhoto but the only update is for iLife 09 and I don't have the money for it, (nor the want). I also looked in iPhoto's preferences and there wasn't anything relating to importing from devices.

My iPhone is recognized by iTunes, and I am able to Sync it, but iPhoto won't even acknowledge it currently.

Right now, I'm going to update my iPhone 3G to the current update and see if that helps iPhoto recognize it.

Applications :: Canon Easy Photoprint And IPhoto?

Jun 16, 2009

Under Windows, I always used Canon Easy Photprint and was pleased to see it is also part of my Canon installation for Mac. Except, when I try to use it, I can't see the bulk of my photos, presumably because iPhoto has packaged them into a photo library. So, in order to print a photo from Easy Photo Print, do I have to export it from iPhoto first? Is there some more elegant way? I tried printing from iPhoto itself, it was so-so, some photo sizes got messed up, especially in cropped photos.

Applications :: How To Use Aperture And IPhoto

May 23, 2010

I just purchased my first DSLR camera, a Canon 550D with a 18-55 IS and a 70-200 F4 IS USM. I bought Aperture to manage those pictures, and was wondering what to do with iPhoto.

Currently, I use iPhoto for all my photos, and have a sync with my iPhone.

I would like to know how you use Aperture and iPhoto on the same computer.

- should I put everything on Aperture, what would I lose if I do that ?

- should I keep iPhoto for my casual pictures (taken with my Panasonic FX-55), and Aperture for the photos taken with my DSLR camera ?

- if I import the iPhoto pics into Aperture, what should I copy them all on Aperture, should I just use the iPhoto database, or should I delete the iPhoto database after I import everything on Aperture ?

Applications :: IPhoto 6.0 Stopped Importing IPTC / XMP Keywords

Aug 21, 2007

This Mac thing is starting to annoy me - iPhoto just stopped importing IPTC/XMP tags: I tag my pictures using Adobe's Bridge but I like to keep some pictures on my iPod so I started experimenting with iPhoto. It used to work fairly well: Simply import pictures into iPhoto and the IPTC/XMP keywords appeard. However, it just stopped working for whatever reason. I deleted my iPhoto library and imported a few pictures that used to get imported with their keywords but no success. what might be going on here? I am using iPhoto 6.0.6 (322).

Applications :: Using Aperture 3 After Import From IPhoto

Jun 9, 2010

I am using the 30 day Demo version of Aperture3 (awaiting the arrival of my ordered copy). Apple claims it to be "fully functional for 30 days, and I believe them, so I don't think (but can't rule out) that this is the source of my issue. I have imported my iPhoto Library (approx 20GB), not by reference, but actually copied the photos into the Aperture Library (as evidenced by the fact that it's physical size is approx 32GB). After that I did about a days work setting up faces and places for my many projects before I discovered the following: When I look at the metadata (General Category) for any photo, it shows my project source as being in my iPhoto library; not as I expected in the aperture library. I was hoping 1) to be able to trash the iPhoto library after the import & 2) not lose the day's work I put into places and faces. One more note, iPhoto (as expected) does not see these changes. Any ideas how to change the reference to the aperture library, is it possible that after applying a new serial number(when my paid copy of aperture arrives) that this will rectify itself? One more note; in the preferences (general tab) the library is correctly referenced as the Aperture3 library.

Applications :: Managing IPhoto, Aperture, Etc. Files?

Dec 24, 2009

I seem to be accumulating a lot of "duplicate" photo files. Some are in iPhoto & some are in Aperture. I import the files from the camera with Nikon transfer. Then I import them into iPhoto. Then I may import them into Aperture. When I use Finder I see multiple file with the same name & either the same or different file extension. I'm going to stop using Nikon transfer, & directly import from the camera to iPhoto. Is there a way to sync photo files to eliminate duplicates or an easy way to organize files so I can delete duplicates?

Applications :: Cannot Sort By Date In Aperture IPhoto Browser

Jan 21, 2010

How do I get Aperture's built-in iPhoto browser to sort iPhoto Events by date? Over the last year I've switched from iPhoto to Aperture. I prefer iPhoto Events as an organizational scheme, sorted by date, so I am re-creating a chronological scheme with Aperture -- as many do. I've been gradually and selectively importing hundreds of iPhoto Events into Aperture Projects by dragging them from Aperture's built-in 'iPhoto Browser'. Here's the problem: Aperture's iPhoto browser shows Events, but they are annoyingly sorted alphabetically, rather than by date. This makes it a real pain to transition chronologically.

I can't find any control to re-sort by date. Inexplicably, on a couple of occasions I have opened the Browser to find it sorted by date! Temporarily rejoicing, it soon reverts to alphabetical after one session. WTF? I have a hunch these couple times were flukes, possibly having to do with iPhoto being open at the same time, I dunno. Still, I now know it's possible; and if it involves some weird workaround to re-create it, I'll do it. I'm running Leopard 10.5.8, Aperture 2.1.4, iPhoto 7.1.5.

Applications :: IPhoto / Aperture 3 Keywords To EXIF - Recommendations?

May 29, 2010

Can anyone confirm or not if assigning keywords in iPhoto or Aperture 3, the keyword is actually written into the EXIF metadata of the file (JPEG) or whether it's just a reference within the application. I'm just starting out my organising, and want to know which one if any does write to the image itself, if neither does, any recommendations on a good photo management app that does write to the images metadata. I'd rather it write to the file, that way I'm not tied to the same application for life.

Applications :: Why IPhoto / Aperture Store Files In Library Package

Aug 15, 2010

Why do they store files in that library package and not in Finder?? This really drives me crazy and I feel like there has to be some sort of benefit that I'm not seeing. It looks like in Aperture I can choose to import photos to folders that are outside of the Library but you still have to manually choose where etc. It seems like in a perfect world, the files would show up exactly as the do in iPhoto, organized in folder by the Events that they reside in. And I can't even ctrl-click a picture in Aperture and say "Show in Finder" or anything! The reason I'm trying to do this is so that I can upload pictures to Facebook, as the Facebook uploader built into both Apps are extremely limited.

Aperture :: Creating Doubles While Importing Photos?

Aug 29, 2014

why Aperture is creating doubles while importing photos? Within Aperture, the events only show single pictures but there are 2 copies of the same photo displayed within finder. Example:

-DC101010.jpg
-DC101010 (1).jpg

Some findings:

Happens on new files never imported and on files I've imported before (creating new events the 2nd time and unchecking "do not import duplicates") Removing the file with a "(1)" in the name does not affect Aperture...The 2 files are identical in dates and size, with preview showing the same picture.Creating a new test library and importing did not fix the problem

Software :: Using ILife For Viewing And Aperture For Importing / Editing?

Oct 29, 2010

I'd used iPhoto for years, but recently switched to using Aperture. When setting up Aperture, I "imported" the iPhoto library by electing to leave the photos in their current location (i.e. in the iPhoto library). Any photos I subsequently imported into Aperture were placed in the Aperture library. With iLife '11 out, I'd now like to use iPhoto as my photo browsing program, since I like all the new features that Aperture is now lacking from a photo-viewing, book creation, etc standpoint. However, I prefer to use Aperture as my photo editing program.

In other words, I'd like to use Aperture to import photos from my camera and do any editing (which I tend to do on nearly every photo); when I want to view or share photos, I'd like to use iPhoto '11. (Since I do some editing on most of my photos, merely using Aperture as an "external editor" from iPhoto is cumbersome). Is this possible to do? I've tried researching this, but most articles are about moving from iPhoto to Aperture, not back and forth...

Aperture :: Grey Filter Seems To Cover RAW Images After Importing

Aug 21, 2014

First, I import RAW images from my Nikon 1 v2. When I start to look at the images at first they appear clear and bright. Within a second it seems that a light grey filter descends over the image, making it look dull. RAW tends to look a bit blah anyway, but this is a muddy appearance.

I don't understand the change back to the image I had first glimpsed when first opening the image. It's just about impossible to reclaim the first appearance using adjustments.

Aperture :: Can Save Filename As A Keyword On Importing Photo

I'd like to automatically save each photo filename as a keyword for that photo, so if the file name is changed later through different versions it retains the original filename within its EXIF information to identify it, preferably while importing it.
