I'm migrating from iPhoto '09 to Aperture 3 and noticed it doesn't import learned faces! I have over 130 learned faces in iPhoto and DO NOT want to have to manually re teach Aperture who everyone is. Why didn't they set it up to migrate the faces library as well?
View 1 RepliesI am using the 30 day Demo version of Aperture3 (awaiting the arrival of my ordered copy). Apple claims it to be "fully functional for 30 days, and I believe them, so I don't think (but can't rule out) that this is the source of my issue. I have imported my iPhoto Library (approx 20GB), not by reference, but actually copied the photos into the Aperture Library (as evidenced by the fact that it's physical size is approx 32GB). After that I did about a days work setting up faces and places for my many projects before I discovered the following: When I look at the metadata (General Category) for any photo, it shows my project source as being in my iPhoto library; not as I expected in the aperture library. I was hoping 1) to be able to trash the iPhoto library after the import & 2) not lose the day's work I put into places and faces. One more note, iPhoto (as expected) does not see these changes. Any ideas how to change the reference to the aperture library, is it possible that after applying a new serial number(when my paid copy of aperture arrives) that this will rectify itself? One more note; in the preferences (general tab) the library is correctly referenced as the Aperture3 library.

View 7 Replies View RelatedIs FACES in iPhoto '09 meant to be able to "learn" to distinguish faces from one another? I've tagged a lot of faces and I thought once iPhoto had a certain number of images of a face it would be able to sort the remaining pictures better. But there are a lot of faces popping up under each thumbnail and they look nothing like the people I'm trying to tag. Was I expecting too much of FACES? Could I be doing something wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone have this problem with the Facers feature? Both in the toolbar and in the drop down menu the Faces option is grayed out. I simply can't seem to get to it. Places is there and works but not Faces. What's odd is that I installed Aperture 3 on two Mac computers and everything is fine on the other machine. Reinstalling the software didn't change anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThought I'd start this thread for people to discover/add any info they have on what iPhoto Faces is doing behind the scenes to help with troubleshooting, since Apple doesn't have any preferences for Faces in the iPhoto GUI. This is only for people who like to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Please note this is not for everyone and anytime you do anything to your iPhoto library you risk corruption and should have a backup copy. What I've noticed so far:
- iPhoto scans the library the first time it opens, and creates 2 faces .db files with the iPhoto Library:
face_blob.db
face.db
- iPhoto creates Faces thumbnails files and places them in the iPhoto Library/Data folder along with the other thumbnails it creates................
I've takes some videos with my digital camera. When I connect it to my Mac, iPhoto opens up and imports them, and I have all the videos in their own event.
When I open up iMovie 08 to edit these clips, they do not show up in the event library under iPhoto videos.
I recently bought a new macbook pro (my first mac) and love it. However, after importing about 4700 photos into iphoto, no faces were detected. I tried going into the iphoto package/folder and deleting the files that included the name face in them, which forced iphoto to rescan all the photos again for faces. However, the second time no faces were detected again. Not sure what the problem is. I have searched around here and on google and no one else seems to be having this problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just noticed a MAJOR problem with iPhoto faces. After spending days working on my tags, all of a sudden I've noticed several of them missing and merged with other tags that they really shouldn't be merged with. For instance, all of the tags of my niece now seem to be merged with my nephew's tag (i.e., all of her faces are tagged with his, and her face isn't anywhere to be seen). What's more, all of the tags that I've assigned to my son now seem to be assigned to me. Now, I don't mind fixing some issues, but I've got nearly 3000 pictures of my son! I didn't notice this until I imported new pictures from a camera today.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIt was working fine under 10.5. Now with a fresh install of 10.6, it doesn't work. I get the spinning icon saying that it's still searching. I've deleted and start a fresh Library and still the same thing. Looking at the Apple support forums, it's a HUGE issue.

But I just tried opening iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder to see it's contents and what I see is, that iPhoto is saving an image of all faces - also those it thinks that is a face but has not been tagged. Is there anyway to get completely rid of this or just to not have it save images of non-faces?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI more than likely user error but I've just switched from Windows and I copied all of my photos from a USB hard drive over to the laptop hard drive which I put in a folder called "My Photos" in the "Photos" folder already created by OSX. For some reason I can't find "Faces" to start grouping the photos. It's not even showing up on my laptop in iPhoto.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs always I wanted to add a new project with incrementally new RAW files from my SD memory card. I have the photo management system the image master files (RAWS) are stored in Pictures folder on the HDD. The import dialogue enables to select a destination folder to Pictures as usual, but it doesn't show Move or Copy files option anymore. Without this, it just imports images as referenced images to the ones placed on the memory card, which I subsequently can't format, because, I'd lost all the photos. Move or Copy files option shows up when I pick other import source than memory card, eg. my HDD. I tried everything, can't figure this out. I find Aperture unreliable now and will move to Adobe Lightroom, if won't find a solution.

I did the transition to iPhoto 11 after the update was issued and the only problem I've noticed so far is with Faces. Before, I had a smart album that showed me all the unnamed faces. I know prior to upgrading, I had tagged and removed all the faces, so that album should have been empty. Well, it detects about 20 photos and I went through them all and they had tagged faces. No problem I said, probably a bad Smart Album data.
I deleted the smart album, made a new one and the same issue. In a photo that has 2 people in it, it days the 2 peoples names and then suddenly 7 untagged faces. Again no problem but I don't see where these faces are so I can uncheck them. I even tried removing the tags from the current people and then trying it again (and sometimes, it piles up faces on top of each other) but no go. Anybody else having issues with faces?
I have iLive 09, recently upgraded from 08. I thought I'd play around with Faces, so I tagged about a dozen or so pics of my son's face.
It has been stuck on "KID may also be on the photos below" with the two spinning arrows for about a day. I see my CPU is running heavy the entire time on Activity Monitor with Iphoto taking most of the clicks.
How long does this usually take? or is this stuck in some bizarre loop and I'd best re-install iPhoto.. Going to let it run for another night (hope it doesn't get TOO hot!!)
I have about 13K photos when I select all and it gives me a count. That may be part of the issue.
Every time I open iPhoto 09 it starts doing a scan of all my pics for Faces and this is taking up to 300 minutes!! It has already completed this scan twice - why does it keep doing it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got my new iMac last night and proceeded to migrate my MacBook to the iMac through the ethernet cable. Everything thing went smooth and as planned until i opened iTunes.
I open it and my music is not in there. I can click on the store and it operates properly, but when i go back to music, part of the image of the store is in the iTunes window.
ALSO, when i plugged in my iPad it didn't recognize it. it did nothing, actually.
iPhoto opened normally and appeared to be okay, until i started to click on the thumbnails, and it opened up a black screen.
this is happening for almost every photo in iPhoto except for two that happen to be recent ones and located on the desktop.
seems to me that iphoto is having trouble locating the original files, but i have no idea how to tell it where they are.
i should say that all the files (photos, music, movies, apps, iphone and ipda backups) are on the iMac. it seems like everything is there, but these two programs can't seem to locate the files.
Since a couple of days, I'm unable to open photo applications such as iPhoto, Aperture or FCE. I'm getting the same king of error report as below. I've tried all kind of solutions from the web but still no solution. I wonder if someone would have the missing file (Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreText.framework/Versions/A/CoreText) and could send it to me? The whole folder CoreText.framework is even missing. I have a MacBook Pro 15" mid 2010.

I have a dvd that I saved from my old mac with 6,000 pictures.
I used iphoto to import them. After over 9 hours there was still 4500 pics left to be imported.
The total size of all the pics is 1.5 gigs. I can't imagine why it would take this long.
I'm new to Aperture, I've always used Iphoto. I've recently imported a large library of photo's from Iphoto into Aperture. I selected to store the photo's in their current location. Is there any way that Aperture can automatically update the library once I add it to Iphoto or my computer? I'm always adding photo's to my computer. As it is now I have to manually import the selected photo's into an event and then drag it from the event to my library. Is there an easier way then this? is there some option that I'm missing?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI like to use Faces versus Names because I seem to be able to crank through it much quicker.
My flow:
1) I click a project name that has not already had faces assigned
2) I click the faces icon. Then I see the "main" part of the screen with the Faces instructions, and the section under that has the faces that need to be named. So I start naming them. There are 100s in this project.
3) Then I come across a face I only "kind of" recognize. I don't know if they are in the background in a crowd, of the focus of the photo. I need to understand the images composition so I can skip them or figure out their name. I would like to quickly just get a peek at the whole photo.
4) So I switch to the Viewer and it takes me to the first photo in that project. That's no good.
5) When I switch back to Face I also have to scroll to get back to that face.
Is there a better way to quickly see the whole photo without breaking up my workflow?
Recently Aperture has a problem reading all the photos on my 4GB Sandisk memory cards (2 cards, same problem).
When importing pictures from Aperture (RAW) - it only reads about 10 pictures, displays the thumbnail and then stops reading from the card (when there is still hundreds more pictures to be imported).
What I have to do is import with iPhoto and then drag them into Aperture. This is a pain though. I happens on both my memory cards and is a recent thing. It used to work.
iPhoto reads the memory cards in the camera very quickly, but Aperture consistently fails on more than one memory card which leads me to exclude the cards as the point of failure.

View 39 Replies View RelatedI was importing some photos into Aperture when my battery unexpectedly died (that's a separate issue). I started the computer (a black MacBook) up again and opened Aperture only to have it be momentarily unresponsive followed endlessly by the rainbow spinning ball. Force quitting and restarting gives more of the same.
Any ideas on how I can make Aperture usable again? It's quite important to me.

I just purchased my first DSLR camera, a Canon 550D with a 18-55 IS and a 70-200 F4 IS USM. I bought Aperture to manage those pictures, and was wondering what to do with iPhoto.
Currently, I use iPhoto for all my photos, and have a sync with my iPhone.
I would like to know how you use Aperture and iPhoto on the same computer.
- should I put everything on Aperture, what would I lose if I do that ?
- should I keep iPhoto for my casual pictures (taken with my Panasonic FX-55), and Aperture for the photos taken with my DSLR camera ?
- if I import the iPhoto pics into Aperture, what should I copy them all on Aperture, should I just use the iPhoto database, or should I delete the iPhoto database after I import everything on Aperture ?
