View 10 RepliesWhen I log in using Lion, Mail, Entourage, and ICal open on my desktop.I already tried unchecking the restore windows box under system preferences/general; sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. The only way to stop it seems to be to uncheck the similar box that appears when you shut down the computer, but you have to do it each time, and I think it doesn't always work either. The options features in the dock items don't seem to work--they're already unchecked, and the windows still open. I don't want everyone else in my family to see my mail as soon as the computer opens and it's really annoying besides.

I'm trying to edit html files in text edit. Every time I open one it warns me that this file I wrote is an application I downloaded from the internet ("index.shtml" is a web application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?"). Except it is just a txt file I wrote. This is driving me mad because it doesn't remember that I've approved individual files. Every time I open the same index.html file it warns me. I tried running defaults write com.apple.LaunchServices LSQuarantine -bool NO

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying out Picasa on my iMac and just installed Adobe Lightroom. There does not appear to be a way to change or expand the choices in Picasa for "open" of a file.
I would like to use Picasa to manage my photos and do quick edits but be able to open a given photo in Lightroom.
Does anyone know of a way to set this up?
I have a document that I've been working on in Text Edit. When I went to open it today it would not open and I got the message "the file could not be opened because it is not in the right format". I don't remember saving it any differently, last time. The only thing I did was change the font to a larger size, a few minutes before I last saved it. Could it be that it then became such a large document that text edit can't open it or is there something else I might have accidently done.

I'm trying to make one of those Youtube song lyrics videos but I can't seem to get the text to stay still. I searched on Google and everyone says to use "centered title" but it keeps fading and i can't get the lines to appear simultaneously, each set of two lines fades out as the next one fades in.Is there a way to insert about 5-6 lines at the same time per slide without the text fading?
View 1 Replies View RelatediPhoto, for example, takes about 30secs to open. If I'm using Safari and decide I want to upload a photo, opening iPhoto and then going back to Safari simply means that iPhoto will jump to the front with it's big, blank screen and spinning beachball five or six times. It's like fighting with my Mac. It's like I'm constantly clicking back to Safari and then a few seconds later my Mac will pop it to the front as if to say "You wanted iPhoto, so here's iPhoto - watch it open."
It's very annoying. Can I set something to allow applications to load in the background?
Every time I log in to my account, all of the applications I previously had open start up automatically. This takes a long time and there is a reason I closed the applications when I logged out. Is there a way to stop this from happening? Also, every time I open up Quicktime, it also opens the past video's I had opened. This is also really annoying.

I am a new Mac user (had my macbook for 2 weeks, loving it, but still learning how to use it). I am really annoyed by Preview app. Anytime I save a photo in my Download folder, it automatically opens it with Preview, whether I want it or not. When I quit Preview, it still opens the next time I download a photo. I can't find anywhere in Preview options such option to disconnect automatic opening of photos. How do I turn it off please?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere is probably a very simple answer to this - but I can't find it! Everytime I start up my imac, a couple of tedious applications that take a long time have to open then I have to close them to get on with what I want to do.

I use a text edit file as a to-do list; however, it doesn't play nice. When I click on its icon, it pops up somewhere other than where I want it. I've tried "Preferences" and TextEdit help on and off line. I can't find any info on it. I'm probably not using the exact words that 'help' would recognize. I've tried saying "Simon Says" too, but that doesn't work either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from a G5 dual 2.0 (OS 10.4.11) to a new mac mini (OS 10.6.2). I have a website that I maintain after getting a pro to set it up for me many years ago. Basically, I would change the text and images as needed using Simpletext. Yes, doing everything in Classic. Now, I recently made some changes using Textedit, saving as an html. I uploaded using Fetch (5.5) and the page displays only the html and not a web page. I tried doing the same thing in MS Word with the same result.
