Jul 4, 2010I accidentally did something incorrect and my iphone synced dupes in iPhoto. Is there a feature that would delete these instead of doing it manually?

View 1 RepliesMy wife and I recently purchased our third Mac system (iMac). She is an aspiring photographer. We have our oldest family pictures (most in iphoto) being moved to the IMac from our Mac Mini and also her DSLR photos from our Macbook to the IMac as well. (she uses lightroom/photoshop). The problem we are running into is we have probably about 100GB in photos and I know there are many duplicates. The problem is the pictures are mixed formats (jpeg and raw) and some are the originals and some are edited. I'd like to get some sort of program(s) that could remove duplicates (if there is a dup in JPG and RAW, I'd like to keep the raw) and maybe group (its asking alot, I know) up the edited photos.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use torrents to download most of my music. I download the torrents to my downloads folder. For example if the torrent is called Greatest Hits it ends up in a subfolder of downloads ... downloads Greatest Hits. To add the music to my library I open downloads in Finder and drag the Greatest Hits folder from the finder window to the itunes icon in the dock. My itunes preferences are set to copy music to my itunes library folder (which is totally separate from downloads, I think it's something like documentsitunesmusic). And I also have preferences set to keep the library organized.
This process often works perfectly. Everything is added nicely to itunes and I go ahead and drag the Greatest Hits folder from the downloads folder to the trash, and then empty the trash. But sometimes, itunes will dupe the mp3's I've just added in my library. It will, for example, add to my library a tracklist like this:
song
song 1
other song
other song 1
next song
next song 1
Where the songs with 1 at the end are dupes of their twin without the 1. I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason to what files itunes will dupe in this manner. I think it has something to do with having track numbers in the original filenames (rather than in the id3's?). But I haven't noticed a definitive pattern.
Does such a piece of software exist? Honestly, I think this needs to be built into iTunes itself.

There are 20 pages in the standard book. I'm looking to get an extra large book. Is there a way for me to delete some of the pages or do I have to use 20? Don't think I'll find 20 pages worth of photos of Cancun!
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I used to delete photos in iPhoto, it would first give me a warning... something to the effect of "are you sure you want to do this?" At some point, I lost this (I'm assuming I clicked "always skip" or something like that) warning so now, when even I unintentionally click delete...
how to restore this important warning "double-opt-in" type button?
I have all my photos in folders, and I guess I must have imported some of them into iPhoto a while back because I just found a 2 GB "iPhoto Library" file. I don't actually use iPhoto at all, so I'd much rather use the 2 GB for something I actually use If I deleted that file, is there a chance I'd lose actual photos? All the photos are still located in the original folders, not any special iPhoto folders.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWith my new DSLR/RAW shots, I've bloated iPhoto to over 105GB for just over 20,000 photos. Was doing housecleaning, deleting files and the "aw *****" moment hit where I deleted some i wanted. Went into TimeMachine and did a Restore to my external 2TB HD (FW800) as temp place. Now, when I went to delete that 105GB file started last night 10:30 pm, here 7.5 hr later: still churning away.....wtf did I do wrong??
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently my buddy's macbook pro died. When we realized it was on it's way out, we moved his itunes library to an external hard drive. We had to consolidate it a couple times to get everything. We setup his new macbook pro to look at the external drive for his itunes library.
However, the new macbook pro is still storing music files locally (the external drive is always plugged in). I did a consolidation last night and noticed something weird. It's not jsut looking for the files that arent in the itunes library on the external drive and adding them, it is making full copies of the itunes libraries on the external drive. So, that means that my buddy has about 4 of each song in his itunes library folders (only one copy of the song shows up in itunes itself). So his Dave Matthews folder will show the album Crash as it's own folder, but within that folder there will be four copies of each song that is on the album.
when I start to import my photos in to iPhoto it says there isn't enough space for it. I know that every picture I import in to iPhoto makes a copy for iPhoto, so...is there an easy way to delete photos I don't need anymore from iPhoto and from my hard drive in order to clear up space? I can't even find the folder where the iPhoto photos are.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI somehow lost half my photo album and eventually searched spotlight with 'jpeg and jpg'. This not only found them, it found literally thousands more, many of them duplicates. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to restore the missing Photos. My idea is to import the lot, and then hopefully try and remove all duplicates like itunes does.

Am I doing something wrong or are both steps required?
What is the proper way to delete photos from iPhoto?
this is driving me crazy, how can i delete photo's while im browsing through albums instead of going to the Photos windows and find the file.

I have to get a pic off of my computer and out of my cloud --- permanently (old pic of an ex - haha). I selected the photo and a yellow outline of the photo appeared. I clicked DELETE and it disappeared from my iPhoto library. But when I was streaming photos to my tv over Apple TV the picture came up - even though I deleted it.

I have about 20 hours of low res digicam videos sitting in iphoto. When I launch Imovie, it loads all 20 hours without asking then proceeds to quit unexpectedly if I try to do anything. Is there a way to prevent iphoto from loading all of them without deleting the videos from my iPhoto library? I have about a 30 minute video I would like to edit I'm frustrated. How about removing all those clips except the ones I care about? Can I do that? (after waiting 20-30 minutes for them to load)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just imported some photos into IPhoto 09 and shortly afterwards my IMac did a hard shut down. Now when I open IPhoto I get the following error:
The Photo Library nees to be upgraded to work with this version of IPhoto.
After that I click on upgrade and get the following msg:
Can't open current photo library using this version of Iphoto.
Thought I'd start this thread for people to discover/add any info they have on what iPhoto Faces is doing behind the scenes to help with troubleshooting, since Apple doesn't have any preferences for Faces in the iPhoto GUI. This is only for people who like to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Please note this is not for everyone and anytime you do anything to your iPhoto library you risk corruption and should have a backup copy. What I've noticed so far:
- iPhoto scans the library the first time it opens, and creates 2 faces .db files with the iPhoto Library:
face_blob.db
face.db
- iPhoto creates Faces thumbnails files and places them in the iPhoto Library/Data folder along with the other thumbnails it creates................

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am transferring info from an iBook G4 running Tiger to a MacBook running Snow Leopard. Everything is going well, except for my ability to transfer the iPhoto library. I have mounted the iBook to the MacBook via Firewire. When I transferred my iPhoto library from my MB to my new MBP, it was easy: all I had to do was drag over "iPhoto Library" from User>Pictures>iPhoto Library But it isn't set up the same way on the iBook: in User>Pictures, "iPhoto Library" is a folder instead of a small iPhoto icon (which you would need to right-click on to see its contents). When I copied the contents of the folder into "iPhoto Library" on the new MacBook, it didn't maintain all of the organization (eg. the albums). Is there any way to do this so that iPhoto will keep the organization of the photo library on the new MacBook, or am I destined to reorganize my thousands of photos into albums again? Please keep in mind that the MacBook is being set up as a new computer, and I am copying over the files/docs/music/photos that she wants to keep from the iBook. I am not using Migration Assistant.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI know this is a reoccurring question, but I haven't found the answer to this specific flavour of it, so I hope you can help. I'm using iphoto 09. After initially using it with default setup, I've now unticked the 'Copy items to the iphoto library' in preferences.I've got an external (NAS, one that is plugged in the router) harddrive with all my photos on it. I didn't want to pull them into a library on my mac, and putting the iphoto library onto the NAS drive didn't work either (it wouldn't load the thumbnails). So I've decided to leave the photos where they are and point iphoto to them without importing them (by unticking that box I mentioned, which was described in another post). Deleting however is a problem. Ideally I would hope I can delete a photo in iphoto and it would be deleted on the NAS drive as well. I've read all the posts about deleting and then emptying the iphoto trash, which I did. I pressed all sorts of keys when deleting (cmd, alt, ctrl, shift etc. - didn't work either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to get IMovie to recognize that I changed the dates of movie clips that I had to import into IPhoto. Subsequently I deleted an event in IPhoto and the darn thing still appeared in IMovie so that option of just deleting and starting all over again seems not to work. (I did not go into trash and really delete it so IMovie might just follow the clips to Trash!) I happened to find that in the Iphoto Library is a file called IMovie Data (In Thumbnails file folder). If I delete that file, will it cause IMovie to regenerate the thumbnails and put all of my photos and clips in the data order I now have corrected in IPhoto?

Whenever I delete an email using iMail, it doesn't delete from my gmail account when I would just use the regular browser to check my mail. Is there a way to delete emails both off of iMail AND from Gmail so it does not appear when using a browser to check my mail or on another computer?

I'm a recent convert to RAW and have been shooting Christmas, New Years and such in this lovely format. Only problem is the CR2 files generated are starting to make a dent in my HDD space. Is there a way to rip an independent JPEG from the RAW file once I've finished processing them? I've tried just removing the .CR2 files but iPhoto wouldn't show a detailed JPEG so I've put them back for now.

I'm having trouble adding images in iPhoto. I want to create a book. An "event" was created when I downloaded the images from the camera but there are other images I want to add. When I drag and drop the images I want to add to the event ( from a folder on my desktop where I put them) it creates a new event, it does not add the images to the event I want them in. So I created a event with the new images I want to add and merged the two events but the new photos do not show in the bar across the top where the images are for me to add to the book.
What am I doing wrong, how do I add images to a event?
Is there a way to view photos in Front Row without iPhoto especially for those don't have iLife? A mate of mine's MacBook is running Tiger - he wants to view his photos using Front Row but doesn't own iLife'08 so currently he is unable to view them. Is there a way round this? Our other mates have Media Center on their PCs which they can simply view their photos from any folder/location which is a bit of a drag as iPhoto is required to view your photos in Front Row on Macs - quite ridiculous. They'd have a field day once they know he cannot view his photos using a media viewer software which they can on their PCs! If there is no other way round this, I'll have to pass on my old copy of iLife'04 to him. Hope you all had a good Xmas by the way.
