Nov 24, 2007I somehow lost half my photo album and eventually searched spotlight with 'jpeg and jpg'. This not only found them, it found literally thousands more, many of them duplicates. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to restore the missing Photos. My idea is to import the lot, and then hopefully try and remove all duplicates like itunes does.

Feb 14, 2008I recently imported all of my unorganized picture folder mess into iPhoto in an effort to organize them. However, when importing my pictures from my camera in the past, I would upload the same picture multiple times. I didnt bother to fix it at the time, but now that its all there in iPhoto, its pretty annoying, especially with the couple thousand pictures i have on it. Is there a way (automater?) that I can find these duplicate files and delete the copies of them? A program to do this or something would be a godsend.

Jan 12, 2011Does anyone know of a good application to find and delete duplicate photos. I'm trying to work with a massive photo library (40k+ images) and get rid of duplicates including thumbs created by Iphoto. I'd prefer freeware but am willing to pay if there is a particularly effective program.

May 25, 2009When I am in an event I right click a photo and send it to the trash. Then when I right click another photo in the event and "show file" I still see the jpg of the photo I thought I deleted. I then have to drag that jpg into the trash.
Am I doing something wrong or are both steps required?

Feb 15, 2009then i thinked of a noob way to do it: in iphoto window, could I just drag all the events' photos i wanna keep to separate temp folders. then delete the iphoto library file alltogether, and then reimport all the backuped pictures again, will that work?

Jan 24, 2010I know this is a reoccurring question, but I haven't found the answer to this specific flavour of it, so I hope you can help. I'm using iphoto 09. After initially using it with default setup, I've now unticked the 'Copy items to the iphoto library' in preferences.I've got an external (NAS, one that is plugged in the router) harddrive with all my photos on it. I didn't want to pull them into a library on my mac, and putting the iphoto library onto the NAS drive didn't work either (it wouldn't load the thumbnails). So I've decided to leave the photos where they are and point iphoto to them without importing them (by unticking that box I mentioned, which was described in another post). Deleting however is a problem. Ideally I would hope I can delete a photo in iphoto and it would be deleted on the NAS drive as well. I've read all the posts about deleting and then emptying the iphoto trash, which I did. I pressed all sorts of keys when deleting (cmd, alt, ctrl, shift etc. - didn't work either.

Jul 1, 2012i have returned all my photos into the new iphoto 9.1.However they aren't displayed the way they used to be. The computer is ignoring all the dates i entered on the individual film rolls and displaying them with date that's embedded on the digital images.An example is i have a film roll which contains photos of my cat Salem which range from 2004 to 2012. This 'folder' used to be displayed at the bottom of all the film rolls as i had it dated 12/25/2020 so i knew where it was and could add to it easily. Now though it's near the top lumped together with 2004 photos dated 2004-2012.How do i get iPhoto to display my photo film rolls the way they were on iphoto 6?I would go back to running TIiger and the apps that came with it including iPhoto 06 but i need snow leopard as i have bought two new Lacie 2 TB drives for storage and they need a newer operating system.

Apr 24, 2012I cant import any photos or videos without iphoto crashing. I have an Ipad2 and iphone4 with a brand new imac running Lion. Since I bought my imac it has always had problems with iphoto. I have removed iphoto and reinstalled a fresh copy of it via the CD that came with my imac. Also, I have no plugins installed so no divx or anything like that.

Jun 1, 2012While using iPhoto last night it stopped attaching any photos to my e-mails. It sends the photo number to the subject line but will not attach thre photo to the message. Â
A new photo taken today will attach as normal but all old ones in the Events folders of iPhoto refuse to attach by any means available. I have tried using the 'Attach' facility in my Apple Mail (version 4.5) but although it brings up thumbnails photos it will not allow selection for attachment. Â
I have re-booted to no avail. Â

Jun 10, 2012I am trying to copy 3 photos from an album in iPhoto to my iPhone. I have tried to move them to PhotoStream. I "select" the photos in the Album and then click on PhotoStream in the "Share" menu at the bottom of the screen. Nothing happens. I have also tried emailing them tyo myself but iPhoto won't send the email. It tells me it doesn't recognize my ID and password. My operating is Lion on an iMac.

Feb 6, 2012How can I change the print quality when printing photos through iphoto on my iMac? I am running OSX 10.7.2 I have installed my printer with the latest downloaded drivers etc. The printer is a HP photosmart 5510. I have gone into system preferences, then print and scan. From here I can see my printer but can't see anyway of changing the print quality. Similarly, if I go into print settings via iPhoto I have the same problem. I have been able to change the quality in Safari but can't see how to create a default setting for photo printing at the highest quality

May 29, 2012I have a 2011 intel iMac. It is the (supposedly) powerful 3.1ghz i5, and i upgraded the RAM to 12 Gig. Before buying this machine I had a 2008 iMac and LOVED it, it was superb. But this machine is SLOWER than that one was?! I am running OSX lion, iLife 09 and iWork 11. I am having a nightmare with this machine, it hands constantly, i only have a few apps open and still it can take 5-10 seconds (beachballing) for finder to draw my files when i open a folder. This can't be right. I have reloaded the entire machine from scratch twice by cloning files off and then MANUALLY rebuilding it (not using Migrate Assistant to ensure to i was not bringing any bad data or bugs across from old installation or old machine). It is slow as a dog, way slower than my old iMac which had a mere 2 Gig of Ram! If i open more than 10 browser tabs in Safari it goes so slow I can't use the internet. The machine crashes at least twice a week and just hands so I have to force shutdown, and my latest error is iPhoto just lost ALL my photos, 5 years worth and gives the error "Request to server failed" but says nothing else of any use. I am hoping to recover them with TimeMachine but wait and see on that score as nothing seems to be right with this machine so no doubt TM will play up as well.
I have VMWare Fusion installed, latest version. It does seem slower when running that, but it still crashed and plays up when that is not running so I am sure that is not the source of any problems, it just makes them a bit worse due to processor usage.Is it possible to get an iMac diagnostically checked (hardware) at an Apple store? It is still under warranty this machine, but I can't drop it off at a store without wiping all my data (clone) to external drive, because I have confidential information stored on it which I can't leave on if the machine leaves my office. I struggled to afford to buy this machine, and thought it would sky rocket my performance and speed after my old machine started to get slow due to age, but even at its worst it was never this bad. I am now a very very disappointed Apple lover, ex-lover?! One final point I should mention, I upgraded the RAM myself, using proper stuff from Crucial. I read that it didn't matter what order the RAM cards were fitted in, is that true or should I try moving them around?

May 4, 2012I have my photos stored on extrnal hard drive and want to view them full size to see if sharp and then delete.
I could always do this in windows on the one screen with no problems. On the Mac it is very difficult and time consuming have rung phone support a few times and have not come up with a solution.
The last suggestion was to go thru Bridge shurly I should not have to use othere software to do such a simple thing. I thought a Mac was supposed to be easy and good for photographers but I am finding it very fustrating.
