Sep 9, 2009Has anybody been having problems with Safari's new Top Sites feature? I've had Safari 4 since the day it came out on public beta, and this feature hasn't seemed to get any better. I seriously dread having to open a new tab, because it automatically opens the awful top sites list. I close my eyes and cross my fingers and pray that I don't get the beachball of death for anywhere from 10-20 seconds. Sometimes it works quickly, especially if I keep testing it over and over. It pretty much just displays a visual of the bookmarks that I already have displayed going across the top of my screen, and I usually just click on the bookmark instead of having to hunt down the page and click on it.

Apr 6, 2009how the top sites feature actually works on the new safari. I've been using the new beta for the last week or so and it seems like the websites that appear in the top sites section are almost entirely random ones selected from my history. Some pages that i've visited once for only minutes appear right at the front of the list. I am failing to see any pattern based on popularity.

Jun 8, 2010When I start up Safari and load my home page (google.com/ig) it takes way to long (>30 seconds). After doing some testing I found out that Safari seems to be hanging when I make secure requests. I found that out by removing the Gmail and Google Calendar gadgets from my home page and it loaded right away. But then when I go to gmail.com and log in I have to wait again. Also at that time I can't use any other tabs, they all just sit there and spin like they are loading.
Has anyone else had this issue? I know its a Safari issue because Chrome it just fine. Any ideas?

Jul 13, 2010While navigating around Facebook, Safari continually hangs on Facebook websites beyond the home screen. I'll click a link and it'll go to a white screen and nothing with load. Then, if I try to go back to Facebook.com, it just remains on a white screen. If I load another website, though, it will work fine. I can't seem to get Facebook.com to load again unless I close Safari and reopen. I can use Google Chrome just fine without it hanging on any of the Facebook sites. Any ideas here?

Nov 4, 2009She just got an iPhone and I am trying to teach her to use the calender. I went onto her Mac to set up the sync (via Mobile Me) and realized that in her messing around on the computer she has somehow managed to erase iCal. And its not just that she moved the icon or anything simple like that but she has actually somehow deleted the app! I have no idea how she managed that, and neither does she. She is using OS X 10.5.8 I tried to reinstall it from the original install disc by using Pacifist (it is not an option to just install iCal for some reason from the start-up disc). But the version of iCal that it installs will not run. A message pops up saying that the version of iCal can not be run on this computer. (Or maybe it says ...on this operating system. I can't remember) I checked and the version that it tried to install is iCal 2.0.5 So I tried a system update and it said everything was up to date. how do I get iCal back? I don't want to have to reinstall everything.

Jun 13, 2006Has anybody else noticed this. Recently in the last week it seems that Safari has been super slow on such sites like ign, myspace, facebook and sorts but over all just super slow.
For example, ill go on myspace, click on an approval and it just starts to load and stalls out. I then click stop and refresh and it loads fine. Its been doing it with almost all the sites actually but very noticle on the sites I mentioned above. Any clue? I know there is FireFox and Ie and sort out there but I like Safari and have never had a problem till now

May 23, 2009I have been having this problem for a while. It happens every now and then, sometimes more often too. Sometimes at random times, when I try to access https websites in Safari such as Internet banking, signing in into eBay etc, it has an error.
It says "Safari can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server signin.ebay.com.au". To resolve this problem I always have to turn off my Airport and then turn it back on. See screenshot - [URL]
I've also tried opening it in Firefox and it also doesn't work. In Firefox, the error is "Data Transfer Interrupted: The connection to signin.ebay.com.au has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." See screenshot - [URL]

May 7, 2012So, by June all my iDisk content will be gone forever? Whatever happens my issue right now is that: I already switched to iCloud. Probably about a year ago I thought I "unpublished" my sites from iWeb, took them offline or whatever. Well, my iWeb sites are online and now that iWeb is discontinued the only way to access my iWeb sites are through my MobileMe iDisk.
I want to delete the blogs, posts, photos, etc from iWeb but the trashcan icon is not illuminated and it will not allow me to delete the content. How do I get rid of this stuff!? Or will it even matter because it will disappear June 30? I have been browsing the discussion board and haven't seen any recent questions pertaining to this specific problem.

May 1, 2008I work in a very small school so we do not have an IT department that is top notch. Anyways, We had a student google something and went to the images part of the search. Well he got porn and he printed some stuff out. He then cleared the history. Is there any way we can recover that history? We have one actual image that he printed, but we can't prove that it came from the computer that he was working on at the time. What we were told was from another student and we can not just go on that for disciplinary reasons.

Apr 9, 2012I have tried everything that I have read on how to add a site to Top Sites. With two windows open, I try to drag and drop a URL, and the "plus" sign disappears and the URL does not get added to Top Sites. I have tried the top of the page, the sides, the bottom, and the middle where the previews are. It just won't drop. Yes, I've clicked Edit. I've even tried holding the Control, Option, or Command key while dropping.
I have tried adding a site using the Bookmarks, Add Bookmark and choosing Top Sites. When I do this, it does get added to the Top Sites, but when I close and reopen Safari, it is gone - not in Top Sites anymore. I have tried totally re-setting Safari. It does not make any difference. I've tried it on my Mac mini and my MacBook. I can't get it to work with either one. Is there some trick I am missing?

All my folders had organized sub-folders containing hundreds of links before I downloaded Safari 4.0.3, with the viewable page version of bookmarks only the few "loose" pages can be seen. Where did all my original (subfolder filled) bookmarks go? Can I get them back?
