This has probably been asked a billion times but I tried the search and failed. So here it goes; I have a few movies that are in MP4 format and in order to burn them to a DVD and play on a normal DVD player, I was told it needs to be MPEG 2. Im looking for a free converter that would do this for me.

I have looked for converters to mp3 but it seems to be a windows thing.... typical, also I was trying to see if there was players and I had to download windows media player, and on tangent, this Windows program seems to be stuck in the early 90's why can't windows seems to be up to par in the Mac world, all elegant and sleek, then you get this program and takes you back with this crusty program

However, all my files are MPEG2, and so far, I have had a very frustrating experience with trying to figure out how to play it back on Quicktime with Audio. I downloaded Pro, as well as the MPEG2 add on. It plays video fine, but can someone please tell me how to get it to play audio step by step?
Lastly, I have Final Cut and iTunes and audio won't play with the video there either. I am assuming once I have it fixed in quicktime, it will work in all other programs too?
I have a concert I recorded and I would like to extract the audio from either the MPEG-2 file or the DIVX file. Is there any program that will extract either the AC3 or MP3 audio? If it is the AC3, what else do I need to use to convert it to MP3 or AAC or WAV?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIf so, how do I avoid frying my macbook air and other electrics, like my iPhone, camera battery, and shaver. ?had that built in or something, so as to just buy a weird 3-prong adapter...I saw the set of adapters available on Apple's site, but those would then only work for my laptop charger. I'm sure I could find the UK 3-prong to US-adapter... but what about voltage? I've never traveled overseas and had to convert power before

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Mpeg2 videos that I shot with a Sony Handycam and stored on disk. After converting to iMac from Windows, I can't get the videos into iMovie. Came close with making them into MP4 using Handbrake so now I can view and hear 'em in iTunes, but I can't get them into iMovie to edit. The file names show up in gray but that's it. What's missing?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently did a clean install of my system and deleted my Previous Systems folder. I was looking to play DVDs in QuickTime with the Mpeg-2 Component, but it is missing from /Library/QuickTime. I can't find it anywhere on the drive. I am trying to reinstall it from the QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg I bought from Apple. Installer says "successfully installed" but there's no sign of the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file. And still no ability to play MPEG-2.
I have downloaded through the Apple store the most recent version of the component installer. No dice.
I have deleted QuickTimeMpeg2.pkg from /Library/Receipts. No dice.
I have searched through all /Users. Nothing.
Am I missing something? This is really ticking me off.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have home movies which seem to all be in mpeg2 format. I would like to open them in imovie to edit and burn new dvds. At an Apple store I was told I needed QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback to read the mpeg2 format. Under the FAQs for MPEG-2 Playback, it says to export to mpeg4 (?) I need to use QuickTime Pro.
My question is, do I need both QuickTime Pro and MPEG-2 Playback? I don't want to plunk down $50 unnecessarily. How do these work together to get my mpeg2 files into imovie? Is there an easier route to do this?
I recently got a new macbook it's running OSX 10.7 Lion, but im unable to run programs because of the MPEG-2 Codec being missing. I was informed this Codec came with Lion?

I recently went through my Applications folder and uninstalled some applications. Now and then, I'll find a file or a folder or a bunch of files and folders from an uninstalled application. Does anyone know of an application that can delete these files that I no longer need?

I've just used my time machine to migrate my old macbook's contents to my brand new macbook air. While I was watching it restore 803,678 files to the new machine, I was wondering how many of them are unused applications. I've stupidly never set up separate user accounts before this, and I'm sure there are any number of applications that were placed on my old machine by my kids, my husband, and various visitors to our house. Since I'm using time machine instead of starting fresh, I know those have been transferred to the new machine. I've never worried too much about this situation before now, as about every three years I've bought a new machine, migrated the files I need to the new machine, wiped the old one clean, and handed it down to one or the other of my kids.
But now I'm realizing that with time machine, everything on my computer is now forever...everything anyone has ever put on it has been transferred to time machine and now to my new machine. I don't want to be operating with years-old versions of kid's games and apps on every machine I set up from now on for the rest of my life. Is there anything out there that specifically looks for stuff that hasn't been used for a specified number of years and asks something like, "Barney & Friends was installed 1/16/2003 and was last used 10/18/2005. Delete Barney & Friends and all associated files, yes or no?"
I'm looking for an advanced notepad for editing HTML/CSS. I'm also wondering whether there's a notepad that has good note-taking functionality as I'm going to use my MBP at University next year.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using utorrent as my p2p application and was told by a friend that I should be using an IP blocker like PeerBlocker to block certain IP's that track what you are downloading.
He is actually a Windows user and after a quick google search I have found that PeerBlocker is not available to mac users. As a result I have downloaded Peer Guardian and have to say I'm totally confused as to how to use it and what "lists" I need to have setup.

View 15 Replies View RelatedFor many years I have been using Turbo Tax for Windows, and it has been adequate for my needs. When I switched to the Mac I bought a copy of Quicken/Mac to replace my copy of Quicken/Windows. What a disappointment ! The Mac version seems to be about 3 years behind the Windows version.
Having said all that; I am considering Turbo Tax for the Mac with some reservations, based on my Quicken experience. I can afford to be annoyed with the outdated Quicken/Mac, but I cannot use a tax program that might be equally outdated.
Does anyone know of a good minesweeper program for free? I just want something that is like the windows version. I tried the widget but I dont like it.
