MacBook Air :: Power Adapters And Converters Are Not Working Well?
Apr 24, 2008
If so, how do I avoid frying my macbook air and other electrics, like my iPhone, camera battery, and shaver. ?had that built in or something, so as to just buy a weird 3-prong adapter...I saw the set of adapters available on Apple's site, but those would then only work for my laptop charger. I'm sure I could find the UK 3-prong to US-adapter... but what about voltage? I've never traveled overseas and had to convert power before

I just hate getting scratches easily on my brand spanking new power adapter. Although I'm really, really careful now, I wish Apple upgrades the cheap looking adapters in the near future.

I have MBP 13", 15" and 17" - from 3 years old (santa rosa) to the current models. Can I share their power adapters? If buying new power adapters, am I best to buy them all at 17" power?

Anyone ever get a .wmd file? I received it as an audiobook. I have looked for converters to mp3 but it seems to be a windows thing.... typical, also I was trying to see if there was players and I had to download windows media player, and on tangent, this Windows program seems to be stuck in the early 90's why can't windows seems to be up to par in the Mac world, all elegant and sleek, then you get this program and takes you back with this crusty program

This has probably been asked a billion times but I tried the search and failed. So here it goes; I have a few movies that are in MP4 format and in order to burn them to a DVD and play on a normal DVD player, I was told it needs to be MPEG 2. Im looking for a free converter that would do this for me.

I noticed awhile back that apple store had 2 dif mag safe adapters. Now i see the 60w goes with the 13 and 85w goes with the 15 and 17. So my question is it bad to interchange the adapters between the 2 dif models?

After purchasing the alu. macbook, I find my self buying all the necessities: again. quit frankly its getting old. It does seem like most apple computers are what some might call overpriced to begin with, but I am ok with that; you get what you pay for and i don't mind paying the mac tax. But as I purchase the odds and ends required to use my computer in the real world, it seems as if apple is taking advantage of the fact that our computers lack some of the hardware to connect with to overhead projectors, etc. (as most PCs can). I mean $29.99 for a 3 in. piece of plastic and wire???
I was just wondering if anybody has found an alliterative source for adapters?

the mini displayport to DVI and VGA adapters from monoprice.com. I received them yesterday, and I was able to test them today with the Dell 24" LCD (1900x1200) at work, and both were able to drive the screen. They aren't quite as spiffy looking as the Apple-branded ones, but the combined total with shipping for both was a less than 1.5 one of the Apple ones.

I have a new power cord for my MacBook Pro. I plug it into the laptop, it turns green for about one second, then goes to orange. It doesn't show in the battery icon that the battery is charging, but if I turn the laptop over and look at the battery, the green indicators on the battery are blinjking like it is charging. I keep getting the "now running on reserve power" error. Now, just two minutes later, all of a sudden the screen gets brighter and the battery life indicator on the screen shows that the battery is at 74%! How could I be running on reserve power at 4% one minute and be at 74% the next?

I have a new 2010 MBP and I'd like to hook up two external monitors to it, more specifically, two ASUS VW246H 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitors. Either via HDMI or DVI connections. I've found various usb monitor adapters, but i've read that many can't quite 'keep up' and I really can't seem to find a solid solution out there.
So does anyone have a dual monitor setup they currently use, if so, what are you using to connect the mini display port to both external monitors.

I purchased a replacement magsafe 85w adapter for my MacBook Pro and was wondering if the new cable requires you to have your laptop closed to initiate the charge process on your computer.I notice that if I attach it with my laptop powered on and my computer open it will not initiate a charge (light up on the cable or show the charge icon on screen). If I power down my laptop and close the lid, disconnect and reconnect the magsafe cable the light on the cable will light up and initiate the charge. I tried this also on sleep mode with the laptop closed and the light on the cable started up without disconnecting. I was able to boot up my computer and continue working and the charge continued but I had to initiate it first with the lid closed either in an off or sleep mode. Just wondering if this is the new norm as I just moved from the old "T" style magsafe to the new "L" style magsafe.

I've been experiencing the following problem with my late 2007 MacBook Pro: I can't use it on batteries. As soon as I disconnect power supply, it works for 10-15 minutes and switches off. Not sleeps, but suddenly turns off completely. The system battery indicator drops by about 10% (showing 85-90% battery charged), whereas 4 out of 5 LEDs are lit on the battery itself. After such a sunned switch-off, I'm not able to start again the laptop - it doesn't react on Power On button - like the battery wasn't inserted at all. Right after I plug on power supply back again, everything gets back to normal and I can use it normally, but still only if it's connected to the electricity.

Ok. so my MBP was working 2 days ago and I went to Fry's to replace the HD with a 640GB model thinking larger storage - win. Replaced in and the orange ribbon cable got disconnected between the keyboard and the logic board. Went frantic and after a visit to the Apple Genius, they plugged it back and thought i was fine. Nope, and now the unit won't turn on. Plugged it in and got the green light and battery charges, but the MBP won't power on. I made sure the HD was plugged in securely, the orange ribbon connected fine, and the power button cable was secure. The drive worked fine as I did a superduper transfer of the old data to the new drive the night before the crisis and it worked fine.

After 1.5 years of use, my hard drive suddenly failed. This was later confirmed by Apple Genius Bar. So I purchase a new SSD from OWC which was instructed to be compatible with my laptop model (MBP 13" early 2011). It arrived today and I did the installation carefully and successfully. However, after putting the back panel back in place I was unable to power up my laptop.
It was as if the power button is not working. Then I opened up the back panel one more time to realise that every time I click the power button (turn on), the fan started running, this can only be stopped by pressing the power button and held it (turn off). I tried placing my old hard drive and it doesn't work as well. I tried reset the SMC by holding power-shift-option but same result.

Starting this morning an X has appeared over my battery icon. When I click the icon is says no battery available. When I check the system profiler it says no battery installed. When I click the button on the battery all 6 lights turn on. I have read similar posts to this that say when they unplug the power supply the mac turns off in a few minutes, mine however will stay on the same amount of time as if the battery was charged. I'm surprised that this happened because I bought a new battery 3 months ago because the original one short circuited when my hard drive went last summer.
I had to have the power supply constantly plugged in if I was using the computer. I tried shutting down the computer, removing the battery and restarting and that worked. However when I shut down, unplugged the power supply and tried to restart, it did not turn on. I'm hoping there is a solution as I use my laptop on the road often and not being able to turn it on without the power supply is a real inconvenience.

I spilt some water over my unibody MacBook Pro about 36 hours ago. It was dark, and as the screen didn't respond I assumed that it had shut down, but on closer examination the next morning (after turning it upside down) I found that it was still running. I shut it off then. There didn't seem to be much water inside the MBP, so I tried turning it on just now. It made all the right start-up noises, but nothing on the screen (the Apple logo also wasn't illuminated). I forced it to shut down again right after.
I'm not near a service centre at the moment, so am wondering if I should just wait a few more days, or get it sent in right away? I guess the fact that it starts-up is encouraging, so hopefully the damage is just limited to something connected to the monitor. No water was split over the LCD itself, but I'm guessing some may have entered at the back of the unit, where it connects to the main body. I did almost the exact same thing to my 3yo MB about 2 months ago, and it started working after about 3 days. I guess I should be more careful about what I put near my computer in future!
