I use a PHP script that records the number of clicks on a weblink I want to monitor. Every so often I want to zero (or empty) a number of files (all are .dat files) to start the counting afresh. Is there a way to automate this using maybe Automator or AppleScript?
View 5 RepliesI have been working on a project and have a completed picture on my flash drive but when I go to open it, it says cannot open because file is empty. It shows that the size of the file is 96 kb and I can see it with the "quick look" option when you left click. This is using CS3 by the way.

View 7 Replies View RelatedIn trying to set up shared music among the users of my computer I think I deleted the original file info, even though there was a music folder showing folders for the individual artists in my library. These however now appear to be empty. I have the music listed in iTunes but when I try to open a song I get a window with the following message, "The song "...." could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" But no luck locating the files. The guy at the Apple Genius Bar said I could retrieve the music but refused to tell me how because it is supposedly illegal. I don't know why it is illegal because the tunes were purchased. But he did tell me to google the problem and I have come up empty handed.

Problem is, with this Mac I have too many quality software to type out by hand so I'm wondering if there is a program or a function built in to OS X (maybe terminal command even, but I'd prefer something visual) to list the contents of a folder and save it to a text file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have dropbox and configured it to show the icon on the tray over the left of my day/time. When I click onto the folder via Finder, I see the folder icon. The "Info" for this folder should allow me to read/write to the folder. However, when I ask to see the contents, I do not get a listing of the files within the folder. I am very frustrated since I have been struggling to resolve this configuration issue out on my own. It is most likely 'user issue' which led me here. However, I am at my ropes end.

I'm running Lion on an 27" iMac (first i7 iteration), and have a folder on an external HDD that contains a couple of hundred subfolders.Â
However - when viewing them in Finder, only the first hundred or so display.Â
The others are there - searching the disc finds the folders and their contents and, once, the contents are located, they'll display in the expanded view.Â
I copied the offending folder across to the Mac's main HD, but this behaviour came across with it. This, by the way, was happening on Snow Leopard too before I upgraded to Lion.Â

I need to add something to the HOSTS file, here is the error message that appears when I try to log in. Using: sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts It does open the file, but it is empty. Should it be empty? I can not save it after editing it. But, if i use sudo open -t /etc/hosts OR $ sudo nano /private/etc/hosts It doesn't give me any error, and it also opens the HOSTS file. But its empty! Im using MAc Osx 10.5 Any ideas of what's going on?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is with 300+ files in 2 folders that are left over from mac 9. They are in the trash, and are now locked, utterly. When I try to empty the trash, the error message says "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." As you may know, when dealing with multiple "disks" (read: partitions), Mac X puts a .Trash or .Trashes folder on each disk. The trash folders on my computer are located on the following paths:
/users/(my name)/.Trash
/volumes/HD_1/.Trashes/501.................
If I begin an install that never completed and have moved the .dmg file to trash how do I delete it when the error message is: item is in use and cannot be deleted?

I made an image of a partition on my hard drive. The partition takes up 8gb but the actual content in it is below 4gb, the rest is just empty space. The image, no matter what I do or how I do it, keeps turning out to be 8gb as well, and then when I mount it, it has more than 4gb of empty space. How do I shrink the disc image to remove the empty space?! Nothing seems to be working. I tried hdiutil resize in an attempt to resize the dmg to 4gb, and it returned an error saying that is below the minimum size...? I also tried hdiutil compact and it returned an error saying Function not implemented. Is there anything I can do in order to shrink this dmg to delete all the useless space? It's important, because I need to burn it to a DVD.

I got this forever looping combination of folders in my Trash, and now it won't let me empty the trash. It's kind of hard to explain, but if I open the trash, there is a folder in there called "RaceImages 11.36.24 AM [7/3]". If I drill into that folder, it goes on forever like this....Â
"RaceImagesThumbs > Desktop > RaceImages > RaceImagesThumbs" and on and on, repeating for basically ever. I could drill down to eternity and still not be able to delete the trash. I've drilled down through that repeating sequence a hundred times and still not seen an end.Â
If I attempt to empty the trash, it first says "the operation can't be completed because the item 'ML1_2014' is in use.", but I don't see that file. If I click continue, it says it can't be completed because the item "Desktop" is in use, and from there my repeating folder nightmare starts. Clicked 'Continue' a 100 times and the same sequence of folders as above are "in use".Â
Tried "Secure Empty" the trash, tried the finder menu "Option > Empty Trash". All to no avail...same error messages.Â

I've tried emptying the trash, securely emptying the trash and used these Unix commands in Terminal too:
rm -rf .Trashes
rm -rf [directory]
sudo rm -rf [directory]
rmdir [directory]
I have 2011 MacBook air and I tried to empty the trash, and only one file wouldn't delete because 'the file is still in use', but the application was turned off. So then I went to finder and clicked secure empty trash, which then proceeded in emptying, but it stayed that way for a long time so I clicked close. Then, it did seem to close, but then didn't and was stuck in deleting.
At that point the Air's fans began to crank up full speed and became extremely hot. I tried to turn off but didn't work so I just put it to sleep at the moment. I'm new with Mac ( in fact this is my first Mac) so I had no clue what to do. In windows I just do ctrl+alt+delete but what should I do with Mac to close the frozen command (in this case secure empty trash). I got scared bc of the fans and the heat. What should I do?

I copied the whole "Music" folder from my mac and everything else onto my WD external for backup so when i get my new drive i can do a fresh install and move them back over When i get on my fresh install....do i just copy the contents of the Music folder i backed up on my External over to the music folder on the new install?

Are these the same for both Final Cut Studio 2 and Logic Studio 9? Or do the LS9 audio content DVDs contain more/different things? Also, if the LS9 content is the same and more, can i install the Audio Content for LS9 and then delete the content that came with FCS2 to free up about 20gb of disk space?
