I would like to scan some documents of printed text with my HP Photosmart All-in-One, convert the image to a text file and then convert the text file to audio and load that into my iPhone so that I can listen to it while I'm doing other things. The question is, are there any apps that do all of this or some set of apps to do this.

Mac screen resolution is getting higher and higher, which is nice, but the downside is that we seem to have lost "what you see is what you get." I have set the default document size of Text-Edit to about the size of an 8 1/2 x 11 document, which fits easily on the screen. I have what appears to be a single page of text. It all easily fits in the document window. The headline fits across the width of the page. But when I choose Print, the print preview shows that the text is going to spill out onto two sheets of paper. I exit out of the print document and reduce the text size so that it all prints out on one sheet of paper. The problem is, the size of the text onscreen is now TINY! It looks like it's about 6 point while the printed text looks like it's about 12 point! No WYSIWYG! When I revert the document to the way it was originally, where it was going to print out on two sheets of paper, and then hold my printed document up next to the screen, the printed size matches the onscreen size almost perfectly, even though, if printed out at this size, the text would spill out onto two pages and be huge. In other words, 18 point size text prints out at about 12 points and 12 pt text prints out at about 6pts, so there's about a 6pt difference in how text looks onscreen and how it prints out. Again, No WYSIWYG! My older Macs had much lower-resolution screens, but text printed out at about the same apparent size on screen. I know the original Macs had 72dpi screens so that they would closely match the printed size of text, and I like the fact that monitors keep getting better, but is there a way around this problem of printed text not matching the size of onscreen text?

I've been trying to automate scanning to my printer to create a virtual colour copier and came across some automator scripts (very simple). However, when I try to use the "Print Images" action it results in junk text printing instead of the image. I then took a step back and tried printing a JPG file directly by dragging and dropping onto a desktop printer icon and I get the same result. This is therefore not an automator issue. I also tried this on both an HP Photosmart P1100 and an HP Laserjet 4 Plus and get the same result on both. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong? Running fully updated 10.6.2 and can print images just fine to either printer from applications such as Preview or iPhoto.

I have been using MassReplaceIt to put named anchors on a couple of my web pages. I was using iWeb'08. I got a new MacBookPro (love it) which has iWeb'09 installed. '09 has converted the text on the two pages (only those two) that had the named anchors to graphics. Now my anchors won't work. Is there any way around this? What's happening is MassReplaceIt reads text, but my text has been turned into a graphic - I think.

I got a "Get info" on the file and found out that it is a MPEG-1 audio file type, unlike all other of my songs that are mp3's. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a large text file, and I'd like to turn each page of the text file into a slide in a presentation (PowerPoint, I guess, though I'm open to alternatives as long as they're cross-platform and idiot-proof). Is there any way to do this using OpenOffice or NeoOffice? The text file is currently in RTF (TextEdit) form, so I can easily convert it to .doc or PDF. Formatting should be maintained, but it's nothing too complex; just some boldface and centering. I'm looking to make cue slides out of the lines of a play. I have all the lines, and I can re-paginate it easily enough, but I'm at a loss as to how to make slides out of it. I don't have the time/patience to manually create hundreds of slides and paste in each line one by one.

After using Notes successfully and continuing to create additional Notes to the app, suddenly I found my largest Notes file, and only this Note, had self converted to html format with this at the heading of the Note:

I do a lot of media conversion from various formats using QT, VLC Player, Video Converter for Mac, Cleaner, Mpeg Streamclip, Sorenson Squeeze, Visual Hub, etc
Quite often i still run into (PC created) .avi clips that simply WILL NOT export/convert with SOUND, they will only PLAY with sound on the VLC Player but cannot seem to be converted into any kind of format WITH sound. I'm assuming this is some kind of codec issue but since i only know the clip as an .avi (and some AVI's convert fine including Divx and Xvid, others don't) and have no known way of analyzing the clip i don't know how to convert it.

I know I could change everyone's first name to both "first & spouse" and then change it back after I print the labels. That's the solution I found from the Apple help pages.
After converting avi files to dvd I lose audio on more than half the files. The audio works fine on the avi file. However once its converted the movie plays with no sound.
I'm currently using a free trial version of divX convertor. Then I use iDVD to burn the movie. However the problem isn't with iDVD because when I just try to play the converted movie through the divX player or quicktime there is no sound. Obviously the same holds true when I send the converted file to iDVD.
1. What is the reason for this happening?
2. Do I need to use a different convertor? Or do I need to install additional programs?
3. I'm not the most computer savvy person so please try to give a simple explanation and instruction.
Seem to have a problem with a particular .avi file. I'm using VisualHub and when converting an .avi file to dvd the audio is out of sync. avi file works fine on mac in quicktime but when it gets burnt to dvd so I can watch it on tv that's where the problem lies. Other avi files I have burnt to dvd have been fine so why this particular one? would anyone know the work around for this?

I currently have lecture notes including audio saved in notebook layout in Word 2008 on my Mac. I am trying to send in an email just the text of the document - however when I copy and paste the text the email becomes too large because it seems to take the whole size of the document (e.g. text plus audio) which is sometimes as long as 8 hours worth of audio. Is there a simple way to copy just the text? I have tried converting the document into a different layout within Word (e.g. print layout) but this always ends up with Word crashing.

I want to have these files transcribed into text. She speaks clearly so I think a speech-to-text program may do the job for the most part and do some manual touch up afterward. Can anyone recommend what I should use for this job? The only program I know of is MacDictate/MacSpeech. That's $150+ so that's out of the question. Is their anything out there that works and won't break the bank?

I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.

I am trying to play a .avi video on my MAC that was originally in .rar compressed format. I opened it in VLC, and the audio wont play.. so i checked the info and saw that:
video codec: XVID
audio codec: mpga
I have perian downloaded.. it doesnt seem to be doing anyting. I dont know if i've missed something in my extracting process of the .rar file.
I'm using iMovie 09 with the very latest updates applied and I am having trouble with audio skimming in just one of my projects. The project is only 8 minutes long and is just a collage of pictures to music.
The audio skimming button is toggled to on but no green bars show in the equalizer when I skim over the video. The audio works fine when playing the project and in other windows around the project such as the event viewer. I have plenty of free hard drive space and the thumbnails slider is set to '5s'. ALL of my other projects skim no problem.
Now this is the strange part. If I click to enter the precision editor on any part of the video and then click done (even without altering anything) the skimming comes back. It thus disappears if place a new item in the timeline until I go back into the precision editor where it re enables itself.
I have purchased quicktime pro 7 and am trying to convert .mov files to .wmv files but it is only converting 30 seconds of the video?

I would like to install XP on my MBP (just got the disk in the mail), & according to the instructions on the screen, I need to print the instructions. It says to do the same thing in the "Missing Manual" for OS X Leopard. Here's the problem. All of the printers in the office have the old multi-pin connectors, & I don't have a printer cable that hooks up to the MBP (I'm in the middle of the desert working with the military). It takes at least 7 days for anything to get here from the states through the mail. Is it possible for someone to post those instructions here so I can cut & paste into a word document & print it that way?
